TVXQ is the reason I discovered kpop, and after watching him for the past 13 years just getting better an better makes me so proud. His vocals are insane! Can you believe that "Chocolate" was Max/Changmin's solo debut? After 17 years in the industry, Changmin finally had his official solo debut in 2020 with this song, which is the title track from his first mini solo album. And in true Changmin TVXQ style he blows it out of the water. Both Changmin and U-Know had a few solo singles before this, but it wasn't until 2019 for U-Know with his song "Follow" and then Max, almost a year later, that they finally both have solo albums. (Fun fact: 2020 was also the year that Changmin got married.) His performance of "Fever" -- which is a pre-release single from his second solo mini album Devil -- was a special stage from SM's New Year's Eve SMTown SMCU Express concert. And, yep, SM used "Devil" to draw Changmin/TVXQ into its SM Culture Universe with the reference to Kwanyga in the lyrics and the pink planet you see in the MV, etc. I guess as Rising Gods of the East, it makes sense that TVXQ could be otherworldly-beings just like the rest of SM's groups and artists, in order to connect their storyline to the rest of SM's Universe. Changmin has been nicknamed Bambi by his fans and he has taken it on as a sort of spirit animal that represents him, so I think the deer in the MV is supposed to symbolize him. If you read the lyrics, the song is about having self doubts and bad thoughts and harboring those feelings within your heart. So in the end the deer (himself) becomes like the Devil because he has now embraced those feelings. During U-Know's and his reaction video to the MV, Changmin said the forest you see him in is a real forest and they had to take a boat to get there. They used drones with lights on them to light the area to give it that spooky effect. And although "Devil" is a remake of a song by Alex Runo, Changmin wrote his own lyrics for the song and gave it a different storyline than the original version. If you haven't yet, check out his other pre-release "Maniac" promotional video which is also a song on this album. As you heard Changmin is known for his powerful high notes (even more powerful than Onew or Jonghyun from SHINee or Chen and Baekhyun from EXO -- all SM powerhouse vocalists), he literally has one of the widest note ranges of almost any Kpop artist. In a high note battle he always wins. It wouldn't be a TVXQ/Changmin song if we didn't get to hear at least one unbelievable high note from him. Here is some background to help you understand the dynamics of TVXQ better. TVXQ (English and Chinese)/DBSK (Korean)/ Tohoshinki (Japanese), which each are the abbreviations/acronyms of the words in each language that translates to mean "Rising Gods of the East," debuted in 2003 as a 5 member group. But, in 2010 three of their members left SM Entertainment and the group and formed a new group called JYJ -- the initials of the members: Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong. (Up until recently, JYJ was still a group and they still produced music, but because they left SM Entertainment -- one of the most powerful and influential companies in the industry -- on less than ideal terms, it has made it more difficult for them to promote themselves and their music. Changmin (the youngest member) was 15 and U-Know was 17 years old when they debuted, so even though they are one of the senior Kpop groups, Changmin is only 33 and U-know is 35. TVXQ is SM's most senior group, but U-Know and Changmin are still younger than, or the same age as, many of the members of the legendary groups who came after them within their generation. They are best friends with Super Junior and they pretty much all grew up together. Changmin is also best friends with Minho from SHINee. And Xiumin from EXO says Changmin was one of the reason why he auditioned for SM because he wanted to meet Changmin and become like him. Tohoshinki (TVXQ) are one of the most famous singers in Japan as well, even among Japanese artists. And like SHINee, they are so popular in Japan that they are considered part of the mainstream music scene. Fun fact: Devil is actually a cover- the MV for the original artist, Alex Runo, came out 10 months ago & has inched up in views from 57K to 63K since Max exploded on the scene with it (12M in 2 weeks). I think SM overdid it with the volume on the sound effects but the production (& vocals & visuals) is top notch.

Only Changmin can do this. Even Baekhyun and Taemin, who are the towers now, can’t digest this. I like Baekhyun, but it really became an opportunity to respect Changmin once again. Now, while watching Changmin's latest 3 songs in a row and seeing how easy it is to perform live on the radio, BOA and TVXQ existed until the current Hallyu wave. They built it up. Girl, you should know that SM is the home of the best vocals in Kpop, and also, their artists don't really follow musical trends either. They are a very experimental company in terms of sound, and production, and I've found that if anything they tend to set musical trends. You are right, though, Changmin definitely has a style. Quirky, BIG, jazzy/bluesy. It DOES remind me of TVXQ, which isn't a huge surprise, I find most solo artists that are part of a group, have a style that is their own, but also is reminiscent of their groups signature sound. Fever gave me TOTAL "Greatest Showman" vibes. Changmin's charisma and confidence on stage are INSANE, but that is what more mature, established artists are able to give you. SM sucks in many ways, but the fact that they still have 1st gen idols that are active, says a lot.

Yes, TVXQ are my uld group alongside EXO, and I always want to show their music to people, but I haven't even hoped for TVXQ reaction anymore. Yes, TVXQ started as 5, since 2010 they are duet. OMG!! This is totally unexpected, but in the best way possible!! I am a sub because of your EXO reactions, but I am a TVXQ and Max Changmin stan as well. I was super impressed with this album, as well as his first one, but this one is tops in my opinion. You should check out TVXQ's Spellbound and The Chance of Love. Those are my favorite TVXQ songs/MV's. Yunho's solo work is pretty amazing as well, he is a crazy good dancer, and "SM's most passionate man". Doesn't Changmin make hitting those notes look so easy?! Lies.

just looking at it if someone was completely new to him ; they would not be at all surprised after being told about his 20 years experience believe it or not; he joined tvxq & debuted super young_was the baby back then. so even though he is only 33 he has 20 yrs almost_anniversary is not long a way (by the way he is just 2 yrs older than exo xiumen_they are close by the way even though they debuted almost a decade apart_xiumin was first a fan than became close friends over time) tvxq is considered a legend; a lot more in japan too but it is nice seeing when they shine on their on as well. also he is also well loved & looked up by younger idols as well & has really good chemistry with them too. Besides Beoms was in two different shows recently with him_He said he saw & was thankful to him and txt for doing covers of their songs over the years. probably saw clips on twitter of them (they were on the cafe part timer show bristro & they invited him after to his naver show freehug) with him _really love seeing my two baises interact_was so excited about the shows when i heard he’d be on _they mesh well together.

I was going to suggest you check out this album because it impressed me so much - is it too early for AOTY? I'm loving this different retro vibe from Max, (more 50s/60s than the recent 80s sound) with all the soul and gospel undertones. He does it so well. You should also check out the MV for 'Maniac' - it's also on the 'Devil' album but was a pre-release MV - it's pure Alfred Hitchcock (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ms1mZciDu8CagIk.html). I love Max so much, but then how could anyone not? TVXQ! are also worth checking out, and like all SM artists, their live performances are fire (Xiumin is a massive fan of theirs and his taste is spot on).
