Vodka vs Sodastream - will it carbonate?

Another crucial scientific experiment in the non-approved beverage carbonation series.
The individual depicted on the bottle's label is Harvey Milk, a San Francisco city supervisor.
You can see his volatile and ultimately tragic story here:-
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harvey_...
If you enjoy these videos you can help support the channel with a dollar for coffee, cookies and random gadgets for disassembly at:-
/ bigclive (extra streams and channel interaction)
Or alternatively:-
www.bigclive.com/coffee.htm
This also keeps the channel independent of KZfaq's advertising algorithms allowing it to be a bit more dangerous and naughty.

Was a bit surprided too, so i googled: The LGBTQ community once boycotted Stoli, but it was kind of by accident. Not very long ago, there was a big, misplaced anti-Stolichnaya boycott on behalf of LGBTQ rights. In 2013, Vladimir Putin passed the so-called “gay propaganda” law, supposedly “aimed at protecting children from information promoting the denial of traditional family values,” a very thinly veiled tactic to enforce the heteronormative lifestyle by banning visibility (and viability) of the LGBTQ lifestyle. LGBTQ activists rightly responded with protests and product boycotts, but incorrectly included Stoli on the list, considering it a Russian product - when in fact it’s been made in a historic distillery in Latvia since 1948 and is owned by a man who is Russian but constantly at odds with Putin himself.

Ah, this takes me back to when i worked with a commercial carbonated vodka in the early 2000😊 The tricky bit is that carbonated vodka is extreamly sensetive to absorbing flavors, as the carbonation enhances it. Especially plastics and rubber o-rings. If i remember correctly, EPDM and Silicone where the only sealing materials we could use. Keep up the entertaining and informative videos Clive 🖖😀

At an event I won't name, I once sat in a sauna with a shot of Viru Valge 80% vodka in a plastic cup. It was actually practically impossible to drink (not that any sane people drink 80% ethanol straight up anyway, it was more of a joke). At that temperature, over 80°C, it evaporated so strongly that the cup was filled with a kind of ethanol vapour above the vodka, and bringing it up to my lips made that vapour get in my nose, leading to a coughing fit every time.

Ah, yes, I remember the first time I had warmed sake. I tried lifting the little flat bowl-thing to my mouth several times, and each time the little whiff of pure ethanol that was slowly evaporating from it hit my nose. Each time this happened it was like a part of my brain just went into a "what are you doing? no, stop that" mode. I took a shot of rum to quell that part of my brain and enjoyed the sake quite a bit after then.

@AngDavies
@AngDavies 3 жыл бұрын
@@florinpandele5205 in water at least, very little ends up as carbonic acid, most of it is just dissolved co2, that step is very slow. Humans( and over living things) have enzymes that mean that step is vastly faster. Most alcohols don't react easily with co2 either, though some, like propylene/ethylene glycol do, and you can then substitute other alcohols to get the carbonic acid analogue you want, for ethanol it would be diethylcarbonate Apparently used as solvents in lithium ion batteries.

@@jpopelish Well, if it happens _while_ it is being applied, it's not chilled _yet_ and as such would not deserve the label of "chilled". Thanks for the link to the Harvey Milk article. I arrived in the BayArea in the early 1980's from Sweden to work at Apple. I knew much of the story, but this filled in important details. Thanks.

@@benbaselet2026 Consumers need to understand what exactly expires at the expiration date. My GF used to throw away perfectly good food if it was past the expiration date until I explained to her that I'd be very unhappy if she threw out the TV the day after the warranty expired without checking if it still worked :P

I was really surprised recently while watching a Sorted Foods video where they tested vintage kitchen gadgets and they had a sodastream unit that was 50 odd years old. Apparently the company is almost 120 years old and they introduced the home countertop machine in 1955! I thought it was some "As seen on TV" product that came out a decade ago hence my surprise.

this seems like a great way to make vodka sodas. my biggest complaint about vodka sodas is that the vodka causes the fizz from the soda water to get lost in the drink, so this might actually fix that.
