I learned so much from Z from these videos and the handful of private lessons I had. One thing I'd like to see her touch on: maintaining your best voice when you're sick, have allergies, sore throat, covid, etc. As the mom of a 3 year old, there's always some kind of minor illness going on, and it really wreaks havoc with my voice...

As an economist by training, I love this attitude. To nerd out for a moment, life and society didn't develop overnight. Sure, sometimes there's game changing breakthroughs. Mostly though, it's those little things. Being 5% faster to complete a task. Growing 1% more food from the same land. Using 10% less material for the product. On their own? Not much changes. Added together and compounded over and over they become world changing. Especially in modern life, I think we're so bombarded with things that already appear finished or perfected, ignoring the years, decades, or even centuries it took to slowly improve things. Yes, marginal benefits seem small and you don't notice them day by day or week by week. They will add up though if you stay at it!

My current issue is that I have a bad habit of falling into my "cartoony" voice to mask out the masculine/androgynous sounds that may come out. I use this voice a lot to be silly around internet friends when playing games or just hanging out. This cartoony voice is pretty squeezed off, but not painful. It's useful for my voice acting side gig, although I only really do funny, light-hearted work at the moment. It'd be nice to also provide clients who request a realistic sounding female voice. But the ultimate goal is to have my feminine voice everywhere! So, my next short-term goal is to face my fears with doing more "serious" feminine voices rather than just the silly cartoony ones around friends. Fear is what's holding me back from progress. I don't need to be perfect. It's okay to be messy and stumble while I figure this out. I need a new habit of using my feminine voice while talking with friends - and strangers! I also have a bad habit of shifting my voice in public when speaking with people. That's definitely when it's the most masculine! So, I need to face my fears and be a bit more feminine there as well! This is what I'll work on for now! Thanks, Z!

Putting this here. My name is Kaya, and I am 16 years old. I am a very very genetically lucky tgirl, as i have mostly naturally feminine features. based purely off of looks, id say that I pass pretty confidently. That being said, my voice is so obviously a mans, and its time for me to finally change that! I am leaving this comment here to mark that Ive begun. I also have a video of my current voice that ive just taken. Knowing myself, I should be able to keep up with doing exercises day to day and such once i fully get into it here. If I remember (unlikely) I will leave a comment here again with progress updates! Ill probably reply to this comment if I do

I recently started formulating a step by step method to produce the tone I want. It helps me be able to consistently produce the tone I want. Methodical planning is definitely crucial for reaching a complex goal like voice training. If I just practice without a plan, I might be able to produce the desired tone one time but will be totally lost how I got there the next day.

I've decided my first active step is to get comfortable keeping my resonance high for prolonged periods until it's second nature and just happens without me thinking about it. I've been doing a lot of practice with R1 guided by your lessons, and I've pretty quickly gotten to a point that I can freely control it between ~450 hz and ~900 hz, but it takes constant mental effort to maintain it at anything other than my "default" of about 550 hz. Once I'm at a point that I'm noticing I no longer have to think about it, I am going to pick the next area to work on and approach it similarly. This will likely end up making it take a bit longer than it does for some, but I've been transitioning slowly enough (I figured it out in ~2009, came out in ~2012, and started hormones in ~2016) that I'm somewhat used to the process being slow and just coping with dysphoria along the way, and this will help me make sure I stay away from bad habits as much as possible. It'll also just let me friends and family slowly adapt to my voice changing without having them all freak out or something. Thank you so much for the motivation!

After 40+ years of hiding, I'm finally starting to take steps and declare what I've always been, but I have a slow, deep, and dry voice. I'm not sure if after so many years this is fixable... I hate how my voice sounds and how it reverberates in my head, but I can't produce high-pitched sounds. Moreover, I don't speak English, so it's difficult to find people who can help me with classes. Now that I've discovered this channel, I'll continue watching the videos and try to change it.

Hey Z, I have a question - you often mention in this video a long term goal of achieving a female voice being roughly a 5 year thing - does it necessarily have to take that long a time period? Especially as for example things you’ve suggested as 1 month or 3 month goals are things I’ve somewhat achieved myself in much shorter periods of time I’m just curious, since, to know that it would take a whole 5 years to get a voice I want would honestly be really demotivating - I’m not that impatient, it’s just that I couldn’t really stand not having an ideal voice for that long Thanks for the video btw, really useful!
@TransVoiceLessons
@TransVoiceLessons 6 ай бұрын
The process of skill development doesn't occur linearly to time. You can likely achieve your goals much faster if you set your mind to it and stay active in the ability. We want to exceed our goals. Make your goals very possible to reach - almost easy to reach and then when you crush them that inertia will only propel you further and faster. Always challenge yourself the whole way through. I have seen people achieve their goals across the entire spectrum of quickly and slowly. This video is not a prescription to say 5 years must pass before you are allowed or capable of achieving your goals. Only one's self can know their own goal directly which means by default, this video is not being absolute about time. Instead, I'm providing a general blueprint for goal structure you can tweak in any skill or medium to suit your goals and skill level. This goal blueprint was modeled as if a person with no experience was just getting started and looking at the new task. Keep up the great work! You'll crush your goals before you know it and with haste.

That's okay! I sounded really rough for over a year when I started my voice journey. The past does not predict the future self. How much time you actually spend practicing doesn't predict how quickly you progress. if you are unsure of what you should be listening for or you aren't listening at all, then you could spend even more hours per day with little success. The most important thing is constructive perception. What have you been trying to listen for? Progress is gatekept by awareness and perception during action, rather than just action.

Somehow I became so used to switching between my normal "chest voice" and falsetto that there's often no discernable jump, pop, or gap when I slide my pitch up and down from one range to the other (and I have a strong, musically trained ear, so it's unlikely that I'm just not hearing it). It's so easy to switch into falsetto that it's actually difficult to not use it at higher pitches. How do I stop myself from falling into falsetto as I try to go higher in pitch? I assume the general advice of "just play around with your voice near that range" will likely help some. But do you have any specific advice on that problem?

You can get a voice you think is pretty, I believe in you ❤
@2small4theMall
@2small4theMall 6 ай бұрын
Hi, hope you're doing alright. I get where you're coming from because this is also a thought I have had, but there is literally no value in this sentiment. Her voice is pretty because she spent a long time developing it. I myself have a long way left to go until I can sustain a voice I can identify with, but I am getting there. I know it's frustrating. But there is no way to know how "good" your voice is going to be, and telling yourself it will never be good enough is totally utterly pointless. You wouldn't talk to a friend this way, so please stop doing it to yourself. There are so many different kinds of voices a woman can have, and even if you never end up sounding like Z, you can still end up sounding like a version of yourself you can be confident in. There isn't one way to sound like a woman and I think you're doing yourself a disservice if you're going to keep insisting that you can't do it. I don't know how long you've been trying to feminise your voice but there is always progress to be made. It could take you a while, or maybe not very long at all, to get to a point where you realise how far you've come. Those points are gonna continue coming as you move closer and closer to being happy with your voice. It can be really daunting but it's going to get easier and it's worth it to put the effort in. Please treat yourself with the patience and kindness you would grant others, you don't deserve any less than that

Months and months of practice sounds nice, but if that practice is using the wrong methods it can be a bad case of forming the wrong habits. Also, I feel like the negative reaction your friend had can be a good thing. Yeah, I know. It's not something you want to see from a friend, but it's important to fail. That's how we learn! Sometimes failure can be brutal, yes, but it's necessary. I'd say that's a good friend to have. They were honest and didn't lie about it. If they did you probably would've kept up that routine, right? What's the next step? I'm not sure. That's up to you to find out. I don't know what you've tried or haven't tried. I don't know what you sound like right now. But I know it's not impossible. Judging by your videos and username I'd say you're pretty good at FPS games. You have the dedication to improve yourself. How does it sounds for someone else to say they've practiced for months and months to get good at shooters only to say they suck and keep losing and they say it doesn't matter? But - plot twist - they've been playing on a controller and using a 60Hz monitor with a dial-up connection! Anyway, I think I've typed enough of a book here. Hopefully you get something out of it!

Saying things like "never" will put you in a very negative headspace. I use to say things like this and worry about pain lasting "forever" and things "never" getting better. But using those words just causes more pain. Then your brain starts attacking you with more "never"s because it's so used to it! I'm not sure how you feel about this, but I am absolutely impatient with things! The thought of "Oh, with enough time I could do this." But how long? I don't want to wait a long time. I want huge progress right now! I hate where I'm at! Luckily I've been working on dealing with patience and letting things change and flow with time. It's also nice to look back at the things I've accomplished over the years! And, like it's already been said before, comparing yourself to others will only bring you down. I'm guilty of this, too! We all are at least a little bit from time to time. Yeah "don't compare yourself to others" is easier said than done, but being aware of it makes it easier to learn to get rid of that habit. Social media is a big culprit of that: we see everyone's highlights, but never their struggles. People just want to post about the good things (which gets likes, views, hearts, whatever), so we generally never get to see the bad stuff or struggles. Sorry, I'm kinda rambling on now! Anyway, I just hope that I was able to contribute something worth while along with the other nice people replying!
