WOW. I think a normal human being would have drop dead from exhaustion trying to perform that song. 7 minutes of non stop belting up to Bb5, vocal runs all over the place, head voice in the 6th octave, acapella and even a little whispered message to the audience. Dang girl!!!!

The finger point is easily in my Top 10 So Hyang moments, but that whole ending section is just so full of joy that even after 100's of views I find myself smiling every single time and especially love when she sings directly to the backup singers. People refer to her as a Diva, but everything about her performances say "This is about us, not me" and I think that's why we love her so much.

I like yourself enjoyed the a capella section. For me it set up the final section where the audience seemed to be as you said on the edge of their seats, waiting for her permission to join in and enjoy it with her. She had that audience in the palm of her hand from the piano intro in reality. The other part I liked was when she sang when you walk through the valley of shadows and she gave that amazing smile. To me it showed how comfortable she was and she was radiating so much warmth to the audience. Wonderful performance.

The arpeggio just before the acapella. That was amazing to me. She had a similar amazing arpeggio in I Always Miss You though not as powerful.

The finger point that she throws into the audience about 15 seconds after the acapella. Such a tiny gesture but it revealed how emotionally invested she was in the performance because it seemed so raw and true.

I wish I could tell you my favourite part of this performance, but the whole thing was a work of art. Everything she does is so well thought out, yet passionate and raw.

Just chills every time. Her singing is a one woman music class.. A technique clinic.. Not to mention the emotional message she delivers so well..

She shows stable singing ability in all areas of music. The audience is moved by her passion.That's why I like her songs.

the building of tension in the first stanza was amazing, just when you think she has got to a climax she takes you further, then you think you are there, but no, she takes you even to a higher level, then leaves you hanging from a thousand feet...in the darkness, then she sings powerfully all alone. Wow. Then, she gives you the short message of the song, talking!! Then, as realizing this is gotten really heavy....she finishes with a celebratory upbeat ending. She has you in her control from the first 30 seconds. She said of this song that the most difficult thing was the breathing, because of the way the passages are organized. She has and endless amount of energy stamina. I recall she sang live her epic 'Dream' which finishes on a LONG D6. And straight after that does 'I Have Nothing' with that legendary ending that has everybody shaking their head. Two epic performances one after the other...and finishing with a soft diminishing head voice. A real warrior. The benefit of countless thousands of hours of practice I might add.

I always shiver at the acapella part of the song whenever I hear that. Only her voice with some rays of light through the darkness of the stage. This is my favorite from Sohyang. If I had to pick one part of the song as my favorite, it would be the acapella section. My goosebumps start long before that but that really kicks them into high gear.... scalp to toes everytime. She said in an interview that this song was the most difficult one to prepare for performance. I can believe it. I love your advice about "getting out of your head". You come to the point where you know that you have prepared as best as you can... you have to learn to trust that and let your experience deal with any issues that may come up.... experience and preparedness inspires more confidence. The a capella portion of the song was almost overwhelming to listen to during this performance. I applaud your tip on focus. Sohyang mentioned once that for her, each performance on stage is a performance before god (in god's glory as you stated). Although she brought it up in a completely different context from your tip was explaining, it does echo and validate the idea of projecting your focus outside of yourself as you noted. What you said is pretty similar to what Sohyang said recently. Not verbatim, but basically the gist is singers use songs as means of communication or telling stories. Sohyang had sung many non-gospel songs, even her own style of "melodic" rap. Sure, her root is gospel, and her main mission (thus song choices) remains to be consoling/giving hope to people. However, she's capable of channeling the appropriate emotion/mood/style of different songs/genres, without abandoning her excellent techniques. Well, most of the time anyway. I recall one comment from one of the experts during her "melodic" rap performance, that Sohyang's energy/aura is too "angelic" for rap. 😁

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe I read somewhere that the lyrics of this song are about the relationship between the audience and the singer. The singer gives voice to the audience, and the singer's songs can help the audience members through the hard times in their life, and in turn the audience gives the singer what they need and supports them through the hard times in their life. The song comes off to me as a huge thank you to the audience.

Sohyang one of my all time favorite female vocalists but for the life of me I can’t figure out why other reactors haven’t as yet reacted much to another world class female vocalist in my top 5 living female vocalists and who many consider as good as or almost as good as Sohyang ( they are close best friends and each admire the others talent). They both have the same vocal range and hit those celestial high notes with emotional impact. And they both look beautiful. Her name is Park Ki Young and here are 3 youtube live performances that will silence the mind and open your heart. Park Ki Young “ wound”( amazing but she can go higher) Park Ki Young “ Spring Rain” ( amazing and those high notes!!) Park Ki Young “ Goodbye, a word that’s too short” ( heartwrenching and again an amazing performance ) I hope you or all your subscribers who never heard Park Ki Young perform , will react. After you fall in love with her voice ( like many others from around the world) You may then want to react to more. Many more to choose from. like the jazzy “right” Park Ki Young is more versatile than Sohyang in terms of different genres she is able to sing in ie rock, jazz, soul , opera. Sorry to be annoying but the version of So Hyang's performance of "I Have Nothing" you should see is the one from the Legends concert series.

She has said this both ways about he singing. She remembers not being able to sing very well, and she prayed daily to God to help her be a better singer, and when that happened, she said that she would only sing for God. She also says that she notices the people in the audience crying and happy with her singing, so she wants to make her fans happy. When you get to You Raise Me Up, she sang that when she had pneumonia and the Dr told her not to speak. She did not want to let her fans down. I am sure all of it comes down to God, because I do not know of anything singer who would sing with pneumonia. Weak lungs and a bad throat an still kills the performance.
