FYI, Dimash does not have a label. He has stated that he does not want others to have artistic control over him. Concomitantly, you have to realize that the music industry and its Marketing machine rest in the hands of eight multinational corporations, seven of which are in the United States. Traditionally, they influence musical tastes, creates genres, and develop the hype and buzz around performers and their catalog for the sole purpose of MAKING MONEY!! In their ethnocentric view, music flows from the United States outward into the world, and not vice versa! That is not to say that Dimash has not tried to break into the US market. He performed on a show called the “Worlds Best” which was an unmitigated disaster when the show’s producers lied to him and assured him prior to his participation that he would not be competing against children (an absolute no-no in Kazakh culture). When he found out in the semi-finals that he was going to compete against children, including another young female Kazakh singer that he had personally mentored, he left the show! Additionally, he did his first concert in New York back in December 2019 and had started work with Walter Afanasieff on songs for the US market. However, Covid and now the war in Ukraine seem to have placed these plans on hold. I’m afraid it will be several years before the West truly discovers him. Meanwhile, he continues to conquer the world with his voice one person at a time here on KZfaq!

PLEASE, don't take this as cold or cynical, it IS, really is a HORRIBLE situation going on. However, I believe it's a relevant question, how will this "conflict" effect Dimash's future? Considering he has a large part of his engagements and Dears in the biggest country involved? With sanctions that obviously causes problems to everyone involved. (Not that all his Dears is out "there" !!😱🫣) Not to mention all his collaborations? Not only 'effect', actually 'affect'? (NOT to forget the people in the other country, Dears and everybody else!! My love goes to ALL the people, persons, who got into that mess involuntarily ❤️ I sit safely in 🇸🇪, with no connections at all, and I shed tears every day.) If you're sensitive to bad language, don't read more, but it's from my heart, and I believe everyone agrees in your hearts. You can watch the video, with a not so "perfect" voice, but a voice that fits the purpose perfectly fine. Bruce Springsteen, 'War', 1986, but the song is as relevant as ever. Originally written and played by 'The Temptations', 1970 with Vietnam in mind. Springsteen made a cover, much rawer, to make people remember the awfulness about wars, and how forgotten the men and women who came out of it alive, but not always in health were. As relevant now as ever. "What is it good for? Absolutely nothing!" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9RpZK9qzNWvloU.html 😱🥺🤬😢😰😡😭💔 FUCK WAR.

You are much stronger than I am. A couple of years ago, KZfaq started plopping Dimash videos in front of my eyeballs, probably because I had watched a video featuring a young Kazakhstani singer, a girl, who had won some sort of contest in Ukraine and whose voice was much more mature than it ought to have been, given her age. Which was around 10, I think. So then these Dimash recommendations showed up. Why? I didn't know, but I wasn't in the habit of spending a lot of time on contemporary music with artists I'd never heard of, so I ignored Dimash entirely. Didn't watch. The recommendations kept appearing, though, and finally, after months of ignoring this artist, whom I really didn't care to experience, I clicked on one. I figured I'd watch it for ten seconds, then dismiss it and do something else. That video was his performance of 'SOS' at the 2017 Chinese TV show 'Singer.' The video you watched today was performed later. (Dimash has the habit of changing his interpretation of a song with each new performance, so be aware - it's always worthwhile to see every version you can find of a song.) I didn't click away. I was riveted in my seat. I had to play it through several times. This singer has it all - he's a very competent baritone, a fabulous tenor, and the best countertenor the world has ever heard. All in one singer. I don't make reaction videos, but if I did, the temptation to view his other videos *right now* would have overwhelmed me. I feasted on everything I could find, and since then, I have fixated on every new release. Nearly every new performance shocks and surprises me all over again. No way could I have summoned the discipline you've just demonstrated, holding off viewing his body of work so I could share it with others, one at a time. Nope. Impossible. Much respect for your iron will! I haven't run across Dimash singing older classical opera pieces, but he did perform a couple of Igor Krutoy's operatic works at Igor's birthday celebration concert at an ice rink a couple of years ago. He sings with Aida Garifullina (classical soprano) and Lara Fabian (contemporary artist) in 'Te Amo Cosi,' and with Aida in 'Ulisse.' Big concert! Full orchestra, Igor at the piano, full choir, wonderful ice skaters on the rink, the camera hardly knows where it should look, there's so much going on. Wonderful stuff. At the concert, Dimash also performed 'Ogni Pietra' solo. That's another Krutoy composition. Buckle in, your Dimash journey will be hella fun!

Dimash understands the importance of conveying the real story of music through performance. His total commitment to the story in appearance, dress, body language, and emotion is like a mini-opera. This song is a pearl of the French songbook is a Canadian-French cyberpunk-rock opera written in 1976 by Michel Berger (French) and with lyrics by Luc Plamondon (Canada) and was immortalized in the voices of Daniel Balavoine and Diane Dufresne. The theme of the song is depression and the desire for suicide and, in the 2021 version, Dimash faithfully and brilliantly presents a sentimental and melancholic interpretation! As the singing decisions follow the original structure of the song to show the psychological instability of the distressed character: From the chest voice to the head voice and then the falsetto, the author aimed to show a broad need to overcome a long of despair and need to reach a very high perspective! Dimash, currently in his concerts, dedicates this song to his friends and acquaintances who departed this world!

Others have named several songs where Dimash focuses more on classical-style singing. He was actually offered a position in an opera company-I do love his classical singing, probably more than when he goes with other genres, but if he joined an opera company you really wouldn’t hear his range-unless they decided to let him sing the entire Magic Flute by himself-which I’m pretty sure he could do. There are actually clips of him doing warmups where he sings a few bars of Queen of the Night, including the infamous F6. And by the way he can go considerably higher-check his duet with Li Yugang singing Drunken Concubine and Diva Dance. I’d actually suggest that you hear Sinful Passion next-first off, there are bits that are going to blow your mind in that, and then, at the end, you’ll see the then-retired Igor Krutoy starting the standing ovation. It’s worth it to hear what Krutoy heard that made him come out of retirement. And then maybe Ogni Pietra, which was one of the first songs he wrote for Dimash and is much more classical. The problem with his more recent work, like Stranger, is that his production company is going to make you obscure the video, so your viewers aren’t going to get to see what you see. (Personally I think that’s a huge mistake-for exactly the reason you stated here. He hasn’t caught on yet in the US, and reaction videos are how many of us in the US are finding him right now. Reaction videos are how groups like Voiceplay are getting a lot of subscribers and patrons-they are exposure, and they should be welcomed by groups that aren’t already hugely popular.) Anyway, great reaction-I really enjoy seeing people who know about voice analyze Dimash. This guy is the most skilled and disciplined singer I’ve ever heard. Combine that with his unicorn-level range PLUS perfect pitch. Wow.

Some of the reactors just put a screen over the video. It seems there are a large variety of these out there somewhere to use. I like the one that plays little soap bubbles over the video. Great reaction with a delightful focus on vocal technique. In Stranger, Dimash is just showing off, and the composition was made to showcase his variety of registers. I wonder what you will have to say about Sinful Passion, where he is using a very special technique that no one has yet been able to explain properly. It is also the song that convinced Igor Krutoy to come out of retirement as a composer to work for Dimash.

It always strikes me how well Dimash uses the silences in the music too. He never rushes through them, but gives them the space they need. Those pauses when you are holding your breath and waiting for the next note are just as important as the notes he actually sings to carry the emotion of the piece.

Love your comments. Dimash is an independent artist, that it very good when it comes to him being able to do whatever he wants, exploring music and following his heart. It's not so good when it comes to promotion, not having a major record label in your back makes promotion hard, being from a country in central asia makes it even harder. So the best we can do is help spread his music everywhere, talk about him to music lovers we know and ofcourse buy his music and support his music on his official profiles. (KZfaq, iTunes, Spotify, Apple, Deezer and more).

👉 This is the song of the songs for Dimash and us, his Dears (This is what Dimash calls us fans.) This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight. The best comment from a Dear under this video: „If you are having a bad day, remember, someone had to sing after him.“ 🤣 The competition was open in 2013 to well-known professional singers from the music industry worldwide (theoretically). In reality, only 2 or 3 non-Chinese contestants (Koreans) attended the show. Foreign participants have been banned since 2016. (The ban was originally intended only for Koreans, but unofficially applied to all foreigners. The Chinese government wanted to ban Korean influence, even though the show was invented in Korea). In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time (politics). The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home. Despite Dimash's planned brief presence, his name was intended to be symbolic and understandable to the public. Dimash was given the Chinese name Dimashi and the 3 syllables were assigned Chinese hydroglyphs: Di - achievement Ma - precious stone Shi - dream, wish. This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood in front of his door. The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to KZfaq ... and so we became Dimash's Dears. The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. won). Thank you Dears for helping to complete the comment. 👉 A few months later Dimash sang this song here, as a guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the competition 'Slavic Bazaar 2018'. (He himself will no longer participate in competitions.) SOS ( with subtitles)- kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZhpraimv7zFqKc.html 👉 In January 2021 Dimash was one of the few foreigners who has been asked to attend the live online show marking the inauguration of the President of U.S.A. Joe Biden. He is here as a representative of his country Kazakhstan and he is also here for his Dears from all over the world. This is the first time in the 67-year history of the Sister Cities and the first time since relations between the United States and the concentration camp began (almost 30 years ago) that an artist from Kazakhstan has attended such an event. Dimash performed: S.O.S. - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qatdbMmCuazdkac.html and Samaltau - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbKiedZhvLjcl40.html kzfaq.infogaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f449.png

hi, you're right, Dimash is an exceptional singer. If you want to see more operatic/classical performances, you can see AVE MARIA from New Wave 2021 (no words but a pure beauty), OLIMPICO or TI AMO COSI if you want to hear his tenor voice. Insane reaction / goosebumps each time I hear him. It's a real journey to discover his music. He deserves to be much more famous. You can watch numerous performances, he prefers live ones because he loves to be on stage and have a link with his audience . He calls his fans "the dears". Good luck

Great reaction again thank you one more time :) For more operatic, he sings with Aida Garifullina the song "Ulisse" and with Aida and Lara Fabian the song "Ti amo cosi", both are operatic and he takes the role of tennor in both. If you want to be mesmerised though i would suggest you react to his "Ave maria" rendition, written for him by master Igor krutoy, *bring tissues you will need them* There is nothing better-speaking volumes about world peace through music than a gregorian hymn written by someone of Jewish faith and sung by someone of the Muslim faith. Hugs and kisses from Greece, stay safe and health.

Great reaction and analysis of the song! He certainly is someone to watch out for in the near future, the Dears are doing their jobs well and promoting/pumping him up to friends & family all around the world, which is great! He has done concerts in the US before, and as restrictions with Covid lift even further hopefully it won’t be too long before he’s back again. I’m in Canada, not sure if he’s come here, but I only discovered him about 9months ago so even if he had I wouldn’t have known who he was. By the way, you’ve got a great name too 😉 I’m finding more of us around, not many my age, there’s a few, but definitely in the younger ones more of us around. 😊 Haven’t checked out your reactions yet, but have you heard of a singer named Faouzia? She’s from Canada with Moroccan heritage, absolutely phenomenal, so much so, I would LOVE to hear her do a duet with Dimash! Tears of Gold kzfaq.info/get/bejne/neBhrcxo1LvYj40.html this is one of her songs, she writes all of her own songs but does do covers as well. Enjoy!!

This was a very enjoyable reaction and analysis. Dimash performs here at the 2018 International Festival of Arts “Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk”, generally known simply as “Slavic Bazaar.” It is an annual festival held in Vitebsk, Belarus, sponsored by the Belarusian Government since 1992. Its main program promotes Slavic music and the majority of participants are artists from the former Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc countries. The song “SOS (d'un Terrien en détresse)” is originally from a French-Canadian musical called ‘Starmania’ from the 1970s and is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. You have barely even begun to scratch the surface of Dimash's talent and ability. He has continued to hone his skills and to fine-tune and perfect his already unbelievable abilities even more. There does not seem to be a limit to what he can achieve vocally. I am excited to follow his journey. Dimash will possibly go down in history as the greatest vocal talent known to man. I cannot think of anyone, past or present, capable of doing what Dimash is capable of. I am still waiting on someone to name a single individual even remotely close to Dimash's mastery. If you want to follow Dimash's career progression over the last five years, here is a song list I usually recommend in semi-chronological order: S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse), either the Slavic Bazaar or the 2017 "I Am A Singer" version. His covers from the same competition of Lara Fabian's "Adagio," Eric Carmen's 1975 "All by Myself" (repopularized by Celine Deion), and Freddie Mercury's "The Show Must Go On." Also, from the same show, Confessa & Diva Dance, Opera 2, Daididau, Daybreak, and Autumn Strong. His "I Am A Singer" 2018 guest performance of Lionel Richie's "Hello" is a must. Then there is Sinful Passion (Greshnaya Strast), Love is like a Dream, Your Love, Olimpico (Ogni Pietra) from Igor Krutoy's channel, Diva Dance (Bastau Concert), Across Endless Dimensions (either the movie trailer or his internet live concert performance), and Know (both the regular performance as well as the vocalise). His more operatic-sounding performances are Ti Amo Cosi (with Lara Fabian and Aida Garifullina), Ulisse (Duet with Aida Garifullina), and Tu Vas Me Détruire (duet with Sundet Baigojin), and the aforementioned Olimpico (Ogni Pietra). His traditional and Chinese songs are also impressive: Adai+Daididau, Samal Tau (2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival), Qairan Elim (Holy Land), Elim Menin (My Homeland), Karagym-ai, Thousand of Miles - A Common Dream, and Ómir Óter. And then there are Drunken Concubine & Diva Dance (duet with Li Yugang), Without You, Love Of Tired Swans, Where Love Lives, Unforgettable Day (Gakku Concert), I Miss You, Passione, Give Me Love, Marigold, Golden, Mademoiselle Hyde, Screaming, his latest music video "Be With Me," just to name a few. His latest songs, "Fly Away," "Stranger," and "Ave Maria," recently debuted live at New Wave 2021, and the latter two are on a whole new level. Dimash performs an alternate version of "Stranger" on the "Shine! Super Brothers S2" Youku Show that is simply mind-boggling and well-worth checking out. Here is the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qs6Smsth1q_Xk30.html Dimash also recently released "Ikanaide,'' performed during the 2021 Tokyo Jazz Festival live stream, which is absolutely incredible. He sings in nearly flawless Japanese. Avoid any performance from "The World's Best." The show in L.A. was utterly disgraceful. The production team edited and cut all of Dimash's performances down to 2 minutes and cut out his Kazakh song for no reason.

Since you're new to Dimash, I find one of the greatest questions about his voice is which is his home base register. It's near unanimity that he's a tenor who's stretched his abilities in both directions. However, one voice coach differs in opinion, and I think his explanation, which has been discussed in several reactions, is that baritone voices actually have more stretching ability to reach upper notes than tenors. Simply a matter of training. Dimash's baritones are not so obvious in his younger years, but in more recent recordings, it's becoming more and more obvious. Maybe this is something you'd like to discuss. Ken Tamplin is a mega fan of Dimash, and has very interesting takes. (Ken Tamplin. Is Dimash a baritone. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLpojd2VyK_LdaM.html)

Okay, here goes: I may be in the minority (lol), but as a huge fan of Dimash I somewhat hope his management DOESN’T focus on the Western market. The only real benefit would be to the management themselves ($), and I fear it would take too much of a toll on Dimash’s longevity. American audiences on the whole are not ready for music this challenging, much less sung by a person who’s still working on his English (fantastically btw), not to mention the religious bias he would also be faced with. I believe the ONLY real benefit to Dimash himself is that he would be giving his fans a chance to see him sing live, which I’m sure he wants, seeing how much he appreciates his fandom. Every other aspect of trying to “force” the West to understand a talent this profound may be an uphill struggle, and at worst a case of diminishing returns that could potentially drain the joy he still obviously has for his craft. Dears, really think about this before you bash me. Our selfish desires can sometimes blind us to the potential realities of our wishes. On another note, I would personally suggest Stranger (New Wave) over other versions, from strictly an analysis POV. It’s maybe the biggest example of D’s sheer flexibility to date.

Some good points Steve! I fear some US promoters would try to make him fit their low, banal standards. We saw what happened on US World's best show. Thankful for the Internet which is how we discovered him. If US audiences are spoonfed by TikTok, so be it. Love from Australia 🙂

I agree dimash is amazing when he sang in Russian as much i love his English songs it really does not have the appeal of his Russian songs

I agree. Dimash is not really a radio artist (you'd just think it was a bunch of different people), he hasn't thus far shown much interest in recording albums, and I don't readily see where his music fits into the charts - cos most of the chart music is dreary and formulaic. He can certainly have a career in the US, but I hope he'll let the US come to him, rather than try to please that market. That said, it will be interesting to see how he will respond to the looming political, economic and cultural isolation of Russia. He's had a lot of success there, and a successful relationship with Igor Krutoy - who is also an oligarch worth $13 billion, and fairly close to Putin, from what I gather. Kazakhstan, one of the former Soviet satellite states, has a very pro-Putin, very authoritarian government, where recently an outbreak of peaceful protests was put down fairly brutally with military assistance sent by Russia. Aside from New Wave, in Sochi, he usually does another summer gig at the Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk, in Belarus, where Lukashenko has shown himself to be totally in thrall to Putin. And his other big market is China, which has so far remained pretty silent on the invasion of Ukraine, although Putin and Xi recently had a great show of solidarity at the Olympics. "Stranger, in a stranger's land ..." Not sure how that would go down in Kyiv just at the moment ...

Bravo! Tremendous reaction to the greatest. What you have seen is just the tip of the iceberg! Di has material for you to react to for a long time, but don't stay on vocals...his greatest power is to transmit. Keep up with him please! React to *ADAGIO* Love from Chile 🇨🇱

I really enjoyed your reaction! I think you would enjoy watching some of the interviews with Dimash which have English subtitles. There you will see what an exemplary person he is. Here is a quote from Dimash about his fans, which I got from one of the interviews " I received systematic formal voice training for twenty years. During all those years I had always wanted to have fans. Now I finally get to meet them. To me they are extremely precious." I look forward to watching future reactions.
