No need to program the batteries unless it has battery management. It looks like a small control module on the negative terminal. Typically if you have start/stop, it will have it and in that case, you need to have it reprogrammed at a shop or dealer after reinstalling.

I have a 2013 golf r and the battery is dying. But when I went to buy a battery they told me I had to get it programmed, well thats what the computer said.now I’m not sure what to do because it doesn’t have that little box on the negative post like you described in the video.

I also do the following: 1. When the old battery is out I mix up baking soda and water and flood the battery tray area to neutralize any acid. 2. I full charge the new battery before installing. 3. I apply some lube to the hold down bolt. 4. I spray battery post protectant on the posts after the cables have been installed. You can also use petroleum jelly. After installing the new battery you may notice all sorts of warning lights on your dash. Start the car, drive it a bit. They should go away. I’ve had good luck with the more expensive Walmart batteries. I just installed a Walmart AGM battery which cost $179 and comes with a 4 year replacement warranty.

$250 for an Odyssey H6 AGM battery is basically what you'll pay in the local auto parts store house brand - shipped free and with a lifetime replacement warranty? I'm in. Smoking deal. Thanks guys!

Thanks for this video, it really helped. Just one thing when I re-connected the battery, there were quite a few malfunction warning lights, TPMS, Adaptive Cruise, ABS, TC, and a few more. We then turned the car off, locked it, then un-locked and re-started, then all the warnings cleared. Is this normal?

Any recommendations to save a few pounds when replacing the battery? I've heard the optimas are a bit lighter. Even 5lbs off the front end would be worth paying a little more if they are lighter.

Your terminals were very clean, unlike your normal battery replacement terminals. But for novices, you should show how to use a battery terminal cleaner for all four connections.

Took my battery off to replace spark plugs and pcv and now my acc wont work drive it around for 50 miles still wont engage trying to find a solution :(

I have a 2013 Golf Base.. will I lose all the radio presets? other controls?

Hi Valerie, usually the main thing that resets is the radio presets, and sometimes memory seats positioning ect.

I just swapped out the battery in my 997 and lost my HomeLink (garage door opener buttons) and the seat heaters. I now have to go to the dealer to have the ECU reset...something only the Porsche dealer can do. This is insanity! I wish you could address ridiculous issues such as this when a battery is swapped or disconnected. Makes no sense to me!

@@theanimeotaku2794 it’s a process in these cars. Whole dash lights up, throws codes, and you really should code it to tell car if you switched battery types and to have alternator charge properly… So yeah, a video is helpful.
