Nedahl drove the Volkswagen Multivan Black Edition this week. At $63,490, before on-road costs it’s almost $15,000 more than a Hyundai iMax. So how different is it? Nedahl drove it for seven days with her family to find out.

I dont think she has worked out that the space between the front seats is done on purpose to allow easy access to the rest of the van without getting out, it doesn't need anymore storage it has more than enough it's just in a different place. If u put a console or something between the seats u end up not using the other storage spots making them pointless even though because you have to have a dash it creates natural storage spots. So you lose practicality as u cnt get to the back of the van and waste more obvious storage that makes more sense to be where it is. Then she brings up SUV's... one of the main arguments used for why people are obsessed with SUV's is that they are more practical, it makes no sense to compare an SUV to the van especially when the only time u mention it is when she thinks the SUV is better I.e styling but then dosnt mention them in any other way as the Van has it beat in nearly every other way. A comparison is only useful when used consistently.

My goodness there are some odd comments here. The mirrors fold in, no more expensive than a Mazda 3, the gearbox works well although I too think a non DSG would have also worked well, the redeeming feature over and above a Kia carnival is the fact you CAN walk through the two front seats meaning loading the kids in and walking into your seat is a blessing rather than climbing in and out like an SUV. Reliability is there, this for VW is what a HiAce is for Toyota, albeit much better when adapted for a family vehicle so these things are built to last. Also odd that people think this is a big car, it’s tall sure, but it’s shorter than a Kia carnival, shorter than a Mazda CX-9 and shorter than a Toyota Kluger... how about that for surprising. We’ve owned the T5 and now the Current T6 for 3 years - held its value better than almost everything except a Kluger (which are exceptional at that). My only complaint (and mine is a TDI450 - 4motion so has the radar cruise, AEB, blind spot and everything else) is that the sunroof option isn’t a moon roof design, probably because the ac vents run through the roof.

Jamie Bagala I’m waiting to test drive a T6. Have you had any problems driving in the wind? My current van is a VW Caddy and it is terribly affected by the slightest wind causing it is shake. It’s underpowered at 1.6TD - I have the TSG version.

☀️ ＳｕｎｎｙＤａｙｓ ☀️ No noticeable issue with wind or none more than our VW Touareg previously had I don’t think. The multivan is a much heavier car than the caddy and on bigger/wider tyres it takes a lot to disrupt it off its line

@Thomas Kinkade I have only last week had my first problem after 4 years of ownership with my T6 generation multivan, my turbo down pipe had a small crack and so I could hear this hissing sound. VW replaced under goodwill as I had never missed a service or skimped on any previous wear and tear. $660 part fitted and fixed. I paid $0 Much better than a head unit we had go wrong in our Toyota Prado which Toyota wanted $2200 to replace. No goodwill. I stand by my claim, this vehicle has been amazing, is built to last and built tough as it’s a commercial vehicle underpinning.

Lacking slightly on safety? Are you joking? Apart from airbags, ABS and ESP, the safety cupboard (for 2019) is bare. For a family score, maybe 6/10 would be more appropriate.

@@sadphil01 They swivel up (not in) & pretty much make no difference in clearance, like the Amarok mirrors (which is a complete oxymoron for an offroader). I know because I used to work with them & it was an ongoing aspect of the brand the company had to manage damages for.

Sold my last one in perfect working order with 235,000 miles on it. On my second one.100,000 trouble free miles so far.

You clearly have no knowledge about the DSG gearbox .. My car (which is a VW Touran from 2012) is equipped with the DSG and at this point I have driven almost 240,000 km trouble free. Also I notice I am not the only one saying this as a reply to your statement, so please get your facts right before you make such 'accusations', especially when you have no personal experience.

Mine did 320,000 km with only one drama. I had to change the alternator pulley.

Kia Carnival is also a brilliant vehicle but longer and doesn’t have the luxury of walking through to the front seats from inside the cabin

You do realize Kia Carnival is an MPV, not a VAN, right? It is marketed as a "minivan" but in reality, it is an MPV. And as someone commented earlier - the Multivan is shorter than the Carnival and then the engine is actually silent (not sure what Nedahl drank before she said it's "loud", but the new diesel engines from VW are very silent) and the turning circle is smaller compared to a BMW 5 series - I would say amazing for a VAN. Also, the back can be upgraded with an optional multifunctional table between the 2nd row of seats and the 3rd (you can turn it, move it, take it out, etc) and of course the space is as good as you can get. All in all, Multivan can do anything the Carnival does, but I can't say the same thing about the latter doing what the Multivan does.

Typical jealous comment from a person who has never driven one. How man VW have you driven or are you a tight are and just buy cheap products. Check out the Haval . It's a great car
