VW Multivan 2021 review: Comfortline Premium TDI340 SWB - Is this modern Kombi a family favourite?

It’s hard to go past a big green van, isn’t it? It just looks like so much fun! The Volkswagen Multivan is exactly that. It’s a seven-seat people mover and looks like it’s just begging to be driven up the coast with some boards on the roof.
I’m test driving the Comfortline Premium which is the base model. It costs $61,990, before on road costs and competes with other people movers like the Kia Carnival.
My children love a van, it’s their favourite shape car to have in the family for a week, so I knew we were going to be in for a fun seven days in the Multivan. Here’s how it performed.

That wide open space is a positive not a negative. Would rather have that space to walk through than stick an iPhone

Another great review but the best thing about that van not having a centre console is you can just walk through the van to get the children out of the car seat when it is raining

Yes I couldn’t agree more, I had 6 children and always found not having a centre console so convenient to attend to the little ones without having to get out in the rain or as we are in Australia the heat also, my children are all grown up with cars of their own and I still have a people mover without a centre console 😂

@@tinawhite5876 people who have more than 3 children are silly for buying SUVs I'm not having a centre console is so Fantastic Four room and moving around a vehicle thanks for the reply

Ive used a multivan as a taxi for 4 years. Very comfortable and well recieved. My record in the boot is 12 suitcases 6 hand luggage cases 2 duffle bags and 2 strollers 4 hand luggage cases between front and middle seats with seats facing rear. With 4 adults and 2 children. No centre console means a hand luggage bag can fit there. Or you can get a removable centre console off ebay. Use a bungy between the 2 luggage hooks on the boot floor to secure small bags under it, it also stops bags sliding. If you get the table it comes with 4 cup holders in the table plus 5 holders in the binnacles by the rear bench. 2 things im not happy about 1 the handbrake is far down i feel a pedal or electric brake in dash is better. And a black headling. But ive left commodores behind not bad for a 2l diesel.

Lovely van. I hope it is as strong as vw t4? T4 is a very strong van and can go anywhere.

Space between the two front seats is Not a ‘Waste’, it is so that you can go to the back section without having to get out of the car. I’m sure there are plenty of other spaces in that spacious van to keep your bag 😂

Great review and this channel is always very informative. One suggestion would be to demonstrate how responsive the gear box is when you floor the gas. Is there a pause, how reactive is the gear box. Good to know for highway driving and junctions ect...

Can 2nd and 3rd row swap around? If you don't get all wheel drive then what is it (front wheel or rear wheel)? Is there a 3 seater option for the front or even second row (potentially making it a 9 seater)?

2nd and 3rd can swap over or all 5 can come out. Everything slides so take the end of the tracks off everything in the back is removable. (Better than merc). Put 2 bench seats in back gives you 8 seats could try a 2 seat bench off a transporter. Same mounts as the mv based on the transporter. Its either AWD or FWD.

They also offer a LWB version, the one in the video is the SWB version. (or you can buy a Caravelle LWB - more seats)

Why not swivel front seats so parents can threaten rousty kids behind ... although there is a "Hallway" to allow Mum to easily access any problem area ! :D "Hallways" are always a boon.
