so what sarah hasnt mentioned yet adam, the fanbase as a whole. doesnt purely vote for karasuno, u can probably find a good chunk of the fanbase support different teams and pretty equally too. all the players are just relatable and likeable. theres really no villains in this show

The reason Inuoka's eyes looked so big and appealing is because they're playing up his being a dog - a cute little labrador puppy I always think, not too bright, willing to chase things all day, and who doesn't actually realise the rest of his friends aren't also dogs - in the same way that Lev's eyes and really all the rest of Nekoma team have cat eyes. I always love the more subtle ways that Nekoma express actual cat-like behaviour: in this episode especially, the way that Kenma decides that Lev is interesting enough to pay attention to instead of not making eye contact at all, and the description of Lev at the end as selfish and impossible to understand.

Original Video Animations (OVAs) are usually extra episodes that were not aired with the TV show. The actual content can be canon or non-canon, just depending on what ended up on the cutting room floor over the course of the adaptation. In the case of Haikyuu, I believe the first two OVAs are non-canon, while the 3rd and 4th are both canon.

OVA means Original Video Animation. It made specifically in animation format and usually the contents weren't taken from the original source of the adaptations. So these scenes weren't in the manga aka the original source. They're unique cause the animators sketch the scenes from nothing, hence the name "original video animation".

Name trivia: Many characters in the Nekoma team has a cat pun/reference in their names. Kenma's family name Kozume means "loneclaw". Kuroo means "black tail". Yamamoto's first name Taketora means "fierce tiger" (this also matches Tanaka's first name Ryunosuke which has the kanji for "dragon" and in Japanese culture dragons and tigers are often complementary to each other). Lev is Russian for lion. A notable exception is Inuoka (the guy with the big eyes who distracted Adam) as he has the character for "dog" in his name instead. His birthday is also the dog day in Japan so it is certainly not a coincidence that he's meant to be a puppy amongst cats lol (he was the goofy dork paralelled with Hinata in that first practice match if you remember).

Based on the dialogue @8:48 it seems like Lev was on the team since April, but since he just started playing volleyball from high school, the coach decided not to bring him to the practice matches during Golden Week (Japanese holiday in early May). This is common in Japanese teams, especially powerhouse schools where the team has a lot of players. During the holidays, teams will hold training camps and sometimes travel to scrimmage against other powerhouse schools from other prefectures. When the team goes on these away trips, they will typically only bring the first string while the other members stay behind and practice individually.

in terms of DND, Kageyama is RAW INTELIGENCE build, Oikawa is CHARISMA focused and Kenma is WISDOM player :D Kageyama has inborn talent but sucks at explaining it to others (similar to noya) because you can't explain something you are born with it over something you learn and practice. Oikawa lack's kageyama's born talent but is very charismatic (charisma is power of presence, not nessecarily how nice or good you are so even evil nasty and rude people can be very charismatic) and focus on his relationships with others to gain advantage on the court. Kenma is wisdom player, he does not have kageyama's born talent that makes him simply figure out everything on the spot as it comes naturally to him and he lacks social skills of oikawa but he is composed and calculated and approach everything as a problem to be solved so its only matter of time before he find a solution to anything that is thrown at him through trial and error. I said all this to point out that in terms of their skills there is no objective "best". sure you can say Kageyama has the most talent and that oikawa has most experience so naturally kenma would be 3rd place, but i dont think that either kageyama or oikawa would perform as good as Kenma in nekoma's team. That is my opinion at least, if others think nekoma would benefit more from other setter thats is absolutely fair, but my point is that these three setters have rock,paper,scissor relationship rather than 1st 2nd 3rd kind of comparison

Hi, I know this series will go on with the following seasons, but for me it has been a journey. On february 19th, KZfaq recommended me a video of an olympic player reacting to Haikyuu, it was season 4 episode 16. I got amazed at the insight she gave, how she spoke about Tanaka, his role, and a lot of things I didn't even think about on my own 😅. After watching until almost the end of season 4, I said to myself: , so I went to s01e01 reaction, and then the next one, and the next one... until today. Today I've reached the last available episode at the moment, after almost 1 month, 112* videos, and the certainty of always having something to watch when sitting on my own. It's been a journey, I've learned a lot, from Sarah and from the people in the comments, it has truly been a honor to do this "marathon", and I just wanted to say thank you, really, it may be not that serious, "it's just a club", but honestly, I got hooked. . . . *(it's actually 113 total, since couple reaction s1e18 is missing from the playlist)

I've been waiting for this!! I'm a fan from Japan, and i love watching your videos! I found Sarah's reaction videos after watching the Haikyuu movie last month, and since then I coudn't stop myself to watch the whole anime again with Sarah's videos on! I always cry whenever Sarah cried, and I love all the stories and talks from her own experience. Really wanted to say thank you because your videos got me more interested in watching international volleyball games! And of course now I've rewatched S1 AGAIN with Sarah and Adam! LOL. It's sooo fun to hear both of you talk about same or opposite thoughts!! Getting both of your perspectives is the best thing(OVA really helped to understand the characters so I love you watched it! 13:00 I definitely disagree that Kageyama would have nailed it. The problem wasn't with Kenma's set. Even Kurou said the set was perfect. The problem was with Lev's swing. The reason Kageyama was able to exactly pinpoint the set into Hinata's palm because Hinata had a normal swing.

To answer Adam's question of "What game is Kenma playing" at 3:35, there is no true answer because of legal reasons lmao. But it MASSIVELY resembles a game series called Monster Hunter. 10/10 game, would highly recommend - it's one of my favorites

Lev is a interesting guy. I understand why introvert Kenma have problems with him, but our setter can do it when he want to do it! :) I understand that a spinoff manga about the other schools exist, maybe you can read it later, if you want to see more of them.

Adam. I would say lets agree to disagree. You need to cry so we can feel better about crying too haha. Do not let sarah and the rest of us cry aloneee. The video is referencing a Game called Monster Hunter. Its pretty interesting because a main part of that game are some monsters are difficult to fight without any info in them. However, the monsters have set attack patterns. Once you figure it out, you use the weapon you like based on your style to counter attack. I feel like it fits kenma style because you have to repeatedly grind to learn these patterns and in the end use it to win. Close observation skills, problem solving, taking advantage of weakness and openings between attacks. However, if you get worked up it can narrow your vision and miss obvious tells. I love nekoma style because defense is what makes volleyball more enjoyable to watch. I think it is evident with the introduction of the libero role to volleybal in the first place.

Heyy Sarah and Adam, i would like to give you a recommendation to react The First Slam Dunk Movie by Takehiko Inoue. It's one of the best sports manga and anime of all time. This show is on same level with Haikyuu and maybe arguably better than Haikyuu. In fact, the author of Haikyuu was inspired by Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk Writer's). The animation is on another level, It's very good at giving the impression of real basketball movements. More importantly, I want to know from athlete perspective about The First Slam Dunk Movie.
