After hearing this theory it makes me think that BDSP could have been so much better with only changing a few things. To keep it short, have Volo operating behind the scenes putting ideas in Cyrus's head. Then have the post game have us battling him again in the present after we summon Arcus

I think Volo is from the past. But him using the Crater from Paldea to travel through time is also a good idea. He just used the 4 ruinous treasures to create a distraction so he could travel through time to Hisui. He speaks of events as first hand accounts. And key words from the Paldean history class was Pokemon Weilders. Volo is the only trainer class of Pokemon Weilder.

I also wanna point out on the Scarlet/Violet book's first page (The Great Crater of Paldea), there's a man with a backpack and hat eerily similar to Volo's during Heath's expedition into the crater.

This is my favorite one yet, I've always thought that the merchant from the east was Volo Plus, it was really strange to begin with why Cogita and Volo was in PLA without knowing each other- hopefully Volo becomes a reoccuring character in the franchise, just like how Looker was (miss that guy)

Honestly, Volo being an ancestor of Cynthia would make fair amounts of sense. Cogita may have been fairly old, but she definitely could have had children unless there are other of their people in hiding. But I definitely do believe all three are related in some way. Even before the line that he would persist regardless of time and space, he knew things from the past that not even Cogita knew. As if Volo had just recently lived through those events and magically appeared in Hisui right as Pokeballs and catching Pokemon started to become a thing. To imagine that Volo, if he was from the future who then traveled to the past to see his culture and people.. and then found Hisui and Giratina before the legendary was calmed, could have influenced the creation of the Pokeball in Hisui (a fairly modern version) before the tech was understood to make his plan a very real possibility. Although we're probably reading too deep into it anyway! Lol

Volo is descendant of Celestica people that lived in Hisui long time ago (could be even descendant to the original hero that Arceus mentioned), and probably ancestor to Cynthia so he probably give up at the idea to reach Arceus at some point in live (besides someone had to build up Celestic Town, and altar to Palkia/Dialga). However it's possible that he could use Celebii to time travel, or other means to travel normally to other regions and stop at some point in Paldea with those treasures of ruin. Ps. This is just my speculation, but I believe that we will get some answers with the dlc set in Kitakami region.

I was thinking what if Volo got his hands on a Kartana? Kartana can cut open worm holes with his origami appendages. I imagine that would make time travel much more convenient. Either that or he has a Celebi. Or a Hoopa. There are several pokemon Volo could use to time travel. It would be interesting to see Volo in the DLC. That would be major spoilers. It'll be interesting once we can play the DLC for ourselves and unlock the story as it progresses gradually. I'm sure it will be fantastic!

Man, it would interesting Volo is the one who give, but also seal the Paldea Quartet. And maybe the Paldea Quartet is actually from Hisui ? And also, it would be funny and crazy to see that Volo have cameos in the future DLC, and showing how smart and dangerous he can be.

I actually thought this SAME THING that Volo may be the merchant from the east!! Not in details like you went into but for sure because merchants, in that specific title, haven’t been used in any Pokemon game before PLA. ❤️

My theory is that Volo is an immortal who was cursed by Arceus for whatever reason and like the wandering Jew myth he wanders the world and sometimes his mental state becomes such that he'll try to force Arceus to appear in a futile attempt to either end his immortality or even to get answers as to why he's been cursed. The fact the wandering jew myth has its origins in China which the cursed treasure pokemon are based off of is also pretty neat. So maybe Volo tried to summon Arceus by bringing to life a bunch of cursed items had them destroy Paldea but when Arceus once again never revealed himself Volo began to regret his decision and then through a disguise re-sealed them.

I still believe the area zero is more connected to AZ than it is to Volo, because of ogrepon's mask, of course the past hisui and the ancient paradox pokemon may also have a connection as well, and whether or not that Volo is from the past or the descendant of Cynthia, I'm not 100% sure about it

I do agree there is a Time Loop but I think it's in a different place. I think it involves rainbow rocket Pokemon go Shadow Pokemon and more information that could be shared about annihilate the if there's Pokemon developers will it. Evan Greevil's research on Shadow Pokemon to make them where they cannot be pure? annihilate is the closest thing to that, bring Pokemon Colosseum in tucannon as an idea. also if use of pokeballs and people having Pokemon in general decreases then the chances of him succeeding at Volo, goal increases it's going to be less people to stop him. I assume 1 timeline it gets so bad that Arceus becomes a shadow Arceus part of the world gets reset while some people go back in the past to correct it because the plans are an example that could be used to prove it.

okay hear me out here.. what if Volo is both Cynthia's descendant AND her ancestor??? what if he was born as the son of Cynthia's great great great great granddaughter or something (exact timeline is unclear at the present moment), grows up to become a power-hungry time traveler, and then goes back to the past and has a child with someone (Cogita...?) who ends up being Cynthia's great great grandmother. or perhaps he's even an ancestor of Cogita as well, and part of why he's present in PLA is because he's checking on her to make sure the events are occurring properly. Volo could literally be a mastermind pulling the strings of the entire existence of the Pokemon world, turning himself into a bootstrap paradox (Paradox Pokemon...?) that has to exist for the events of the Pokemon world to happen as they do. or he could just be power hungry and created a paradox accidentally and is now forced to keep time traveling back and forth just so the very fabric of the universe doesn't rip apart. it makes perfect sense for this to be introduced in the game that involves the ruler of space, the ruler of time, and the creator of the Pokemon world itself. i could even extend this into Cyrus' story. he wanted to try to fulfill Volo's vision when Volo himself is unable to. maybe because of the paradox, Volo is physically unable to exist in the time that DPPt take place, so he has Cyrus and Team Galactic do his bidding for him. i'm running out of ideas for where this could go and what implications it could have, but i think you might be onto something here.

Okay, I watched it, and I feel like the hypothesis has some holes and would really only work with Violet. Mostly the "he comes from the future" part. Excellent theory. I love your theory videos. They bring so much expansion and possible lore that make the world of Pokemon richer in my mind. Volo absolutely has to be the merchant that gave the Paldean king the treasures of ruin. It's just too perfect. He wanted to see the Paldea region to cease to exist as part of his plans to make a new world.

While I doubt we will get more Volo lore (direct with his name) in the DLCs it would be interesting to see if he comes back in future Legends games.

If that's the case, then maybe Volo was indirectly responsible for the kalos war. Figuring if the war went its proper course, then he would be able to freely explore the paldean crater for Terra crystals since there wouldnt be anyone from the paldean empire to stop him

Looking into Volo his name apparently means wish or I wish. This puts me in the frame of mind to believe his existence is a miracle or was a wish granted by Arecus to infertile parents. This also got me to thinking about Arven. We assume the SV professors are both his parents but there is the possibility he is also a miraculous combination of modern science and ancient mystery. I don't recall a mention of Arvens other parent in game and the AI has suspiciously human emotion at the end. I'm stuck on this idea that if a person's soul becomes a pokemon and that pokemon were some combination of psychic, steel, ghost, fairy, and normal with an ability like rotom it could create and inhabit a humanoid body and attempt to continue its human life. Well what if that new being didn't understand itself or lost itself in its human memories? Could it be similar enough to a person to fall in love or procreate? Obviously this part is the furthest stretch ever and begins to tread into some pretty gray waters but that's the feeling I keep getting from it. It's super creepy.

In legends Arecus the player is plucked from their time and sent to past Sinnoh or an alternate Sinnoh called Hisui so that means Arecus could be selecting those with the highest potential to master pokemon. Volo could be one of those selected by Arecus to exist outside of time or if like you say he's from the distant future maybe the time machine or a iron arecus paradox with a corrupted version of arecus'power sent him to hisui and the temporal storms that exist there are either side effects of the machine or a failed retrieval protocol. Does that make the player characters in legends arecus are also weilders? Is the Teal Mask a treasure of ruin that corrupted the weilder that tried to seal it away?
