Volvo Switchblade FOB Button and Spring Repair (part 8626556)

Күн бұрынHow to repair a volvo key FOB Switchblade for S60/V70/XC70 2001-2007. Video addressed fix for a FOB that no longer springs open and/or no longer locks closed. Feel free to contact me if you need this service performed.
Note: what I don’t call out explicitly in the video and I probably should have is that you need a doner remote with a working switchblade to salvage the button from. See other video of mine on how to take the remote apart.

I found this video and the other one on how to safely access the spring in the switchblade button very helpful, hardest part was finding the replacement parts. The local volvo dealership quoted me $500 plus for a new key, I fixed it for less than $20 thanks to this video.

I took mine all apart, then I realized that the tabs on the silver button were broken. I had to order a new key and then cut that one open just so I could get a new button. I then glued the old one back together using the new button. What a pain. I used the jb weld that is especially made for plastic. I hope it all stays together after all that effort. I left my other key in limp mode because I don't want to go through that process again in case my repair fails.

Xacto knife works if you snap off the tip (about 1/16") and use the backside to scrape away that seam. The same principle as a plexiglass cutter.

You dont have to use the top cover and twist counter clock wise ... The chrome buttom has 2 big square "ears" that fit the key blade and 2 smaller ones 90° on the big ones that fits in the lower part in the circular "grove" where the spring is. You can twist the chrome nop until tension is good .. take the blade a little bit down, then you can get those 2 small "ears" in the responding groves and turn the blade full open. The chrome nop is now secured and held in place .. just press the top on

Good point. I would suggest eBay or a local wreckyard. Sometimes, cars in the wreckyard will still have the keys in ignition. I may have one. Let me know if you want me to look.

What kind of adhesive did you use? I used LePage Plastic 2 stage glue from Home Hardware but 3 years later and it came apart again Edit: nvm, jb weld. Did it hold ?

I used The JB Weld plastic product. Still holding strong.

No as long as you keep same transponder you are good

Praise THC420 same here. You need to buy a doner key fob off ebay for a few dollars. You cut that one open to salvage the button and transfer it to yours.

No but you can by an empty fob on eBay I think.

Can you still get the replacement parts? I have only found the plastic fob. Not the cilindrical metal key thing that flips the key

Nah, don’t think so. You would need to buy a used key and take apart.
