I hate making a adds for other KZfaq channel, but I guess some might have missed this Swedish Gem's of Swedish military history. Got content on Swedish Nuclear Arty and videos on stuff like Arsenal make. So I highly recommend to go over there and check it out. They have been working with Arsenalen so really it is the same content as we get directly from the museum. It is all in Swedish and no subtitles sadly, but for anyone wanting to watch some crazy stuff go to KZfaq channels "Sveriges Militärhistoriska arv (SMHA)" and "Hemliga Hemligheter" The content there is 10/10. "Hemliga Hemligheter" got the stuff about tanks and vehicles. Nuclear Swedish arty. Radio controlled S tank etc etc. Only bad thing is that you need to know Swedish. Hope Arsenalen can do content on this vehicles too. I think it is a shame that so few know about such fascinating history. Please Arsenalen if your reading this work with Sveriges Militärhistoriska arv (SMHA) and "Hemliga Hemligheter" or do a English take on it. Do something! I hate that such grate content is not shows to the world :c Love watching and reading about Russian vehicles. But without a English translation I would really have had a hard time understanding anything. So really it sucks finding grate content that is unwatchable by people that can not understand what we Svenskar säger :)

It is possible to shift normally when going up in gears, you just have to know how long to wait before leaving neutral. It depends on the speed when you are shifting. When downshifting you almost always have to double clutch and rev to match the shaft speeds, but again there will be a scenario where you could downshift like in a normal gearbox but you really have to know the vehicle for that.

Nice all terrain truck, what was noticiable was the simplicity of its construction. The cab penals pressings are simple and made in 1,2 parts and these are spot(?) welded together into a rigged part. We didn't get to see the chassis rails, but I am guessing they would also be simple "C" form pressings without any bends and then riveted together. The cab heater is also a good example of simplicity and function. I think Volvo must have contracted big and small companies to make parts for this truck. We didn't get to see the engine and engine compartment, and I am curious to know more about the engine and what other applications it was used in. Because its a big capacity unit. Thanks.

Does it have power steering? I've never driven a 6 wheel drive vehicle only rear wheel drive without power steering (which required a bit of muscle at low speeds), does locking the front axle in make the steering heavier?
@torstenraab532
@torstenraab532 3 жыл бұрын
1) You had different ratio for the steering - instead of 3 turns of the steering wheel from one side to the others, make it 10 or so. You see that in old movies, where they crank the wheel like crazy. 2) Those were MEN in the old days. 3) The road wheels were relatively small, so easier to steer. Same as for the old cars - Porsche 911 was sold with 185/70 tires back in the 70s, 205 front tires were "crazy racing shit for men with steel arms". Now you get such on a VW Polo and can crank them with power steering
@lavrentivs9891
@lavrentivs9891 3 жыл бұрын
No, no power steering, but as Torsten mentions, a different ratio for the steering wheel. When driving it's not much harder to turn the wheel than on a car with power steering, the biggest difference is when standing still, then you need to put some muscle behind turning the wheel. Though it's easier to turn the steering wheel of a vehicle without power steering, than the wheel of a vehicle with power-steering where the power steering isn't working (broken or vehicle simply not running).

I knew that sweden changed driving side in the late 60', did all military vehicles were already left hand driven (right hand traffic) or they were later changed?
@yu199069
@yu199069 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe because they brought too many USA surplus trucks so their military used to drive left hand truck hence when they place the order of a new truck, they just ask Volvo to follow the driving side as those USA one?

All cars was left hand before 1967, interesting to drive along narrow roads. During the summer of 1967 we were visiting Norway, and my father said it was safer to overtake a car in Norway than in Sweden.

I beg to differ TGB40 is much better, low gear chains on 2 axis, it was hard to bog down. I drove one with a Howitzer 77 hooked up, with chains, got through about 1 meter of snow without hesitation, the howitzer could assist in driving up to 7km/h from a box at the side of the drivers seat. Ourtruck was the one with the crew cabin, and the hydraulic crane for handling the ammo. As a automatic it was easy to drive, and a lot options to set up difflocks. Please make a video of TGB40.

There was a mix of vehicles. And I bet there was a mix of them before the change too. As said Sweden got some USA trucks after WW2. So they where driving around on the left side of the road in right hand USA trucks. So really there was always a mix after ww2. There is some older trucks and such that still stick around due to historical reasons. There is a mobile base of operations truck that is left hand drive that I know off. It is called Per Albin bussen You can watch a grate Swedish show called "Secret Secrets"... It is all in Swedish :C I'm a Swe so I understand. It is really cool ! Atom bomb arty and radio controlled S tanks! Grate channel that is dead now for 4 years. Kalla krigets fordon - Del 3 Per Albin bussen "KZfaq" It is like a mobile bunker with generators and all the fancy stuff at the time, (40s/50s) made to be used in war time in the safety of the woods ;) It dose not make sense to convert them to right hand drive since they are not really going to drive that much anyways. So there probably was a mix after 60s and as time go by they got replaced.
@JH-lo9ut

Most veichles in Sweden were left hand drive even before Sweden changed. This must have been very awkward, but for some reason they loved American cars back then. What's really strange is that even domestically produced cars were mostly left hand drive.
