@@BoltRM It's just the official Elite Strap. Got the new Bobo M3 yesterday and have been now testing that as well and it feels way comfier, but it's out of stock everywhere sadly.

i have an rx 6650 xt and i use av1-10 bit on VD. so my question is does that make it default to hevc? Its weird because it seems to also look a lot better than using the hevc codec. I've read amd 6000 series is capable of av1 but idk if that has anything to do with virtual desktop

@@Swaves_Gaming That is interesting, seeing from Guy himself saying it's only for the 7000 series. Said in another Reddit thread that it falls back to the HEVC encoder when trying it with a non-7000 card, but if it works for you, more power to you

I believe its whether your card can encode in av1 - for example rtx3080 can decode but not encode. I have a 3000 series and still able to choose av1 as an option on VD streamer but then checking in performance panel in quest 3 headset its defaulted back to HEVC

If you are upgrading for vr you definitely want a gpu with dual encoders, 4070ti and up will have it.

I went from a 3080 to a 4070ti and got a huge performance gain in pcvr.

I've only got a gtx1080 but I was running HL:Alyx on nearly max settings through my Index before it died. Wonder how I'll go if I use the quest 3 and if I'll have to dial back the settings for some reason. Maybe the resolution on the Quest 3 is just higher than the Index.... If only I didn't have to return the Index controllers to get my refund on the broken headset 😢

@@haloharry97 Wi-Fi 6E is already a pretty big gamechanger, and as far as I'm aware Wi-Fi 7 has just been anounced fairly recently, so there are no devices that support it yet in terms of routers. I also assume Wi-Fi 7 routers will be extremely expensive initially, so not sure how many people are going to have them. I give it another 2-3 years at least until Wi-Fi 7 becomes even remotely popular.

I was about to buy one, for quest 3 but idk if it supports it yet, if it ever will happen ;( Ya WiFi 6e is allmost perfect. With av1 the bitrate is perfect. But I love to see what this headset could have been with WiFi 7...

Yes the AV1 codec currently only works on 4000 series Nvidia cards and I believe 7000 series AMD ones. AV1 looks great to me and the added latency is not noticeable if you have a good networking setup.

Good to hear it's fixable. I found AV1 added at least 10ms more latency over NVENC.

Haha yes I've left iRacing for a while and now I'm back to playing it regularly. I generally just use a cable when simracing, since it really doesn't bother me while just sitting in my rig and racing and keeps the Quest 3 charged for longer, as well as lets me have the most stable connection. With your specs you should have an awesome experience in iRacing, it looks stunning on the Quest 3.

Honestly haven't felt the need to use any of those on Quest 3. I set the Link Sharpening to Quality when using Link or Airlink and Sharpening to 80% in Virtual Desktop and things look awesome.

No Virtual Desktop will not be able to use the settings from the Debug Tool, those are just for Link/Airlink. The 10-bit allows for a higher number of colors to be displayed, so in games with dark environments or lots of colors, the 10-bit codecs will likely look better, but might also add a bit of extra latency. Also everyone’s eyes perceive things a bit differently so it’s worth trying all of them and seeing which one you prefer.

Yes newer laptops with 6e can do that. I tried on my old laptop with a regular Wi-Fi 5 card and it was horrible 😄

Technically you should be able to do 4128, since the width of one panel is 2064, so you'd double it for both displays, but I'd recommend playing around with it and seeing how it performs. Hope that helps!

Yeah for sure a big jump. Even on stand-alone going in and out of games is sooo much quicker, and for PCVR it just feels much smoother.

Excuse my ignorance here, but why would you want to use the Steam version of VD? You can see your desktop directly in the Oculus Home or any other headset you might have. I’m genuinely curious.

They don't affect battery as far as I could tell. All these changes happen on the PC side, so the Quest itself should not suffer from any faster battery drain.

The encoder and graphic quality will still determine the clarity of the image, so it will definitely help when it comes to movies too. Obviously the quality of the movie itself will count too, since if you are using a 720p movie, no amount of settings will improve that by much.

Yeah it just depends on the bandwidth, but if you don't plan on increasing the bitrate, you're good. Also, some cables seem to charge the Quest faster than others.

Do you mean in the headset or on the mirrored window that shows up on your PC? In the headset you can't really zoom out without distortion. Only thing you can really do is put the eye relief to minimum and get your eyes as close to the lenses as possible.

The quality on Quest 3 is really good. Some aliasing in the distance is normal but overall it should be very sharp as long as your PC can handle it. Regarding the G2, I haven’t personally tried one, and not sure what you mean with standalone as it is only PCVR, but my understanding is that while it’s very clear, the sweet spot is tiny on the G2, and significantly bigger on Q3.

Yes whatever you set in VD/Link will be reported to SteamVR as being 100% resolution. You can supersample in SteamVR in addition to increase the resolution even more if your PC can handle it, but for the most part setting it in VD/Link should be enough.

Yes I believe you need to be connected to Link/Airlink for it to work.

It’s a combination of both, but mostly the router.

In my experience, just make sure that the PC Oculus link program is TOTALLY OFF (and doesn't start with a PC start or anything) before running Virtual Desktop and vice versa The settings you mess with in the Oculus Debug Tool have nothing to do with any of the Virtual Desktop settings and they don't impact each other if only one is on at a time I hope that this helps!

It's called a PCIE Riser cable. Mine came with the case(Hyte Y60) but you can get them on Amazon or other shops that have PC parts.

I know you can change the resolution for stand-alone in Sidequest, not sure about the bitrate for PCVR. The bitrate would need to be set in the PC software as well, not just in the headset, so I'd say Debug Tool trumps Sidequest(if it's even an option).

So, the Oculus App will still dictate things like resolution, but the refresh rate is set in VD. The Oculus Debug Tool settings will have no effect on VD and only work when using Link or Airlink.

No because it would be a very short video. I only use Prefer maximum performance on thje Power Management Mode and Texture Filtering on Quality. Also for more powerful headsets I might do 2-3 under VR Pre-rendered frames.

Hey there! Yeah the Quest 3 is fantastic for 3D movies actually, and you can use the Bigscreen VR app to stream them without having to download and also watch with friends.

Yes you'll need to download the Oculus App on your PC.

They're two different things. Yes you need to set your IPD(distance between your eyes), but that won't magically fix your need for wearing glasses if you normally use those. If your eyes simply need help focusing at a certain distance, you will still need that with VR, and prescription lenses help avoid the need to wear your glasses in the headset.

Well you wouldn’t need virtual desktop if you’re running via cable. VD is for wireless only. On cable you can just use the default Oculus PC app instead, which is free.

I believe so, but it's on Meta to do that through software updates. The warping is actually not as bad as you'd think and only really shows up on things very close to the cameras for the most part.

You should be able to have a decent experience on your Quest 2 with those specs. The Quest 3 does have better quality and reliability for PCVR, but honestly I'd recommend first figuring out why it doesn't work properly with Quest 2, cause it probably has to do with either your router, or your settings. Have you tried wired to eliminate Wi-Fi from the equation just to test?

Not sure what you mean by “streamed video” but as the description you’ve added says, Async Spacewarp is the PCVR equivalent of ASW for standalone. It generates “fake” frames in order to make things feel more smooth, but ideally you’d want this off if your PC can handle it.

It does increase bandwidth, but indeed no VR headset uses the extra bandwidth yet. It’s about extra headroom more than anything else. I don’t live in a congested area at all and changing to 6E has been a massive improvement to how high I can push the bitrate on AirLink.

any now intel dedicated, or 40 series nvidia, and as i heard 7000 series amd. those card have dedicated av1 decoder made for it, other card can do, but not as well, thats the reason it being slow for you

I have a 4090 currently, but it should work on any 4000 series card, as well as 7000 series AMD ones.

Haven't tried that specific tool yet but I have tried increasing the resolution through Sidequest on my Quest 2, and it generally looks okay but in some cases it affects performance, so I generally stay away from that for standalone VR.

I think same as with Quest 2 when it first came out, there definitely is more power to be unlocked in Quest 3 with future optimizations by both Meta and developers, but I'm super curious to test things out and see what can be done right now, so yes, I'll start working on a video for that!

You can try playing around with the Encode Resolution Width if using Airlink or Link and see if that helps with the head movement stuff. I have none of that currently with the settings outlined in this video. Thanks for watching! ❤️

From a data transmission perspective you’re right, wireless is not better, though it is getting damn close if you have a good networking setup. The part where wireless is king is just the freedom of movement without a wire.

It offers more settings and customization, so I'd say it's worth the 20 bucks, but at the same time if you're happy with Airlink, that's all that really matters!

I’m happy to try and help but it’s nearly impossible to diagnose just based on that info. Are you starting the games from Steam or directly within Oculus home? If you have any VR games on Steam, it’s worth trying to launch one from there and see if that works. Reinstalling the Oculus software on your laptop is always worth trying too.

@VRManCave Yes just the way you explained in your video. When I plug in the cable, it shows the panel to launch rift and takes me to the Oculus home ( white room) then I choose robo recall and it starts the game but freezes after about ten seconds,then sends me back to the white room?

Not on GPU specifically but rather on what you’re playing. Some games look better with certain codecs. And yes now the only option in VD is AV1 10-bit, and it’s generally a great codec for most titles.

I’m using a 4090 and 32GB of Corsair RAM, but the beauty of all this is that you can optimize to get the best out of any system. My other PC has a 3070 and this makes a big difference on how well VR runs and looks on it.

So usually PC and standalone games are entirely separate. In the online PCVR Oculus store, there are some games for purchase that are the same game as the standalone games but you usually don't get BOTH versions for the purchase of one (for example, if you get the standalone headset version of Gorilla Tag, you won't also have the PCVR version of Gorilla tag) If you have poor battery, consider getting a long cable (connected to the proper adapter for your headset and the cord having the correct output too) and hanging it from your ceiling with some sort of pulley system (like Kiwi) and just stay plugged into the wall while wirelessly connecting to your PC or playing standalone Within the next few months or weeks, hot swappable battery pack straps that are rated for the power hungry Quest 3 will come out and you SHOULD be able to hot swap several charged batteries to the back of a strap on your head when they die also for endless play You ARE correct that your headset shouldn't die as quickly when you play PCVR games as the headset does a lot less calculating and using it's hot and powerful CPU when you connect it to a PC, your PC does the majority of the calculations/etc for the games In my experience, PCVR games are hard for even good PCs to run without a little tweaking also So I recommend a video about Windows optimization for PCVR by a youtuber named ~ICE~ and also turning your PC fans to turbo in the bios to keep it cool while PC gaming Best of luck

Meta couldn't design a proper charger/battery for the quest 3 so it's time to get creative for those extra minutes lol As much a i want a bobovr3, it's just not strong enough.

@@VRManCave According to many lucky people who were able to get theirs (or unlucky?) many complain about how it's not charging the Q3 fast enough and that it has the same battery as the M2 which isn't accommodating. I've read that people have tried to use battery banks with no luck getting it to charge fast enough. I noticed that my phone charges at 24w but quest 3 charges at about 13w but I think it might require up to 18w. So even if you have it plugged in directly into a wall, something in the headset is throttling it so it can't get the full charge. I don't know the technical side of it but I think reddit has a lot of threads about this. GL!

Well, if you have a good router then you should be able to get both to look almost the same, but latency will always be better via cable.

Well you can just use Oculus Link. Virtual Desktop only works via wireless but if you’re using a cable Link is way better and allows for much higher bitrates and stability in most cases.

You should be able to do that without issues generally, yes. But as always with networking related things, the best thing to do is test and see how it performs.

It’s definitely compatible, make sure you have the Oculus app installed and it should work fine. I have a 3070 PC and a 4090 one and it works perfect on both.

I agree, but realistically AV1 and any other encoding/decoding only happens on 2in1 headsets like the Meta ones. On any native VR headset it will look great by default since it does not have to compress the signal and then decode it.

@@VRManCave Well, that's not entirely true, even high end 4k monitors (specially those that go into high refresh rates above 90Hz) compress image because HDMI nor DP support such massive data transfers, it's reduced to the point of barely noticable/nonexistent in terms perception but the compression is there, usually all done on a hardware level, so yeah, better ways to encode/decode image actually benefit all headsets in the end.

I generally use 800 while on wired Link and about 400 for Airlink. Currently experimenting with some new settings that seem to allow for higher Airlink bitrates withhout an insane increase in latency, but I'm still trying things out. Will probably make a video when I come to a clear conclusion.

You might have Asynchronous Spacewarp on, so it's showing you 45fps but it's actually emulated to 90. Honestly, your CPU is being severely bottlenecking your GPU. A 4080 should be paired with at least an i7 to make the most out of it.

Absolutely! But just don't expect to maxx out everything in the game's settings.

Not sure to be honest. There are some that can be used in sort of mixed reality with the passthrough feature in Virtual Desktop, but it's only a handful that actually work properly. Might actually do a video on that soon.

I think yes it’s a combination of the three, and it’s not necessarily a reflection of how fast your actual Wi-Fi will be. 2400mbps is still about 3 times what a regular 5Ghz router puts out(866mbps reported by VD). If your PC can handle the games, then with that router your experience should be butter smooth.
