I love the twist after five phases, the one that DOESN'T use armor is the one with the most health.

@@paragonyoshi4237 Oh yeah that fight's just as good. When he cuts himself out of his mech and says "I'd like to see you try" is a great intro and the fact that Brevon and Merga are the only things in their respective games that can cancel a Dragon Boost(Brevon by counter throwing and Merga by clashing with her own) is such a good way of showing how strong they really are.

Believe me when I thought to myself when I saw the heath bar “Wait, it’s that crap from Palace Courtyard except I actually have to beat it this time?! *WHATTHEACTUALLYFU-“*

What's a cool detail I noticed in this final phase of the fight is that if you use Lilac's Dragon Boost at the same time as Merga and both of them come together, they will enter into a "clash" of sorts where neither Lilac or Merga is gaining the advantage. It's a cool detail I thought I'd mention.

who knows, sure they might spin it easily that lilac isn't natural either, but too the results of experiments, after merga was imprisoned the surviving water dragons did some more genetic engineering and created a few eggs of strong warriors, but were lost before they were used, which could easily explain why she can go toe to toe with her

You can see this in the "lilith" phase too, every other phase she is aggressive but in this one (the moon phase representing love) she crouches and shields herself with the flowers, hiding in her last memory of Cordelia

​@@jakubluptak5654 I also wouldn't rule that out, but I'd prefer if she wasn't "the chosen one" or anything along that trope. It's more compelling that Lilac became the world's greatest martial artist purely as a means to survive and prosper among the Red Scarves. Granting her superpowers at birth sorta robs her of her accomplishments.

@@emmiannon1266 She also says "Lilith" in a somewhat sultry tone, as if lost in a memory and not quite locked into battle. It's a far cry from how she shrieks "Blood Moon!" and "Super Moon!".

@@siphillis well not chosen, but if u are bred for battle...technically they could hatch her sibling eggs to get similar results...might be good penultimate-boss in next games, a troupe of evil lilacs / her evil genetically same sisters...before facing the scientist behind them

Those same players would say the same when fighting the Kingdom Hearts series super bosses.

Merga does assist you against Syntax if you get the true ending, but the fact that Merga was made into a monster through circumstance makes her a more relatable villain than Brevon. I enjoyed Brevon for being a full on evil overlord, but to compare them, Brevon would be Freeza and Merga would be Vegeta. One has some humanity and kindness somewhere in their soul thats buried under years of battle and pain, and the other is just an enjoyable evil asshole incarnate.

@@LightSkye I think even Brevon is not a simple "Evil Overlord" and there are hints that even he has some nuance to his character. Though his backstory is far less explored. So we only got a few subtle hints, rather than a full on explanation, like with Merga. Brevon is an enigma for the most part, but what I got from him, is that he likely is a "Big Boss" type of character. If you know about Metal Gear that is...

@@PrincessTwilightdash Yeah I posted my fight against Askal because that amused me so much. I like in the rematch he even does Vegetas "tactic" of spaming projectiles when he's pushed too far.

@@paragonyoshi4237 Metal Gear is one of my favorite gaming franchises and I respectfully disagree. From everything we see from Brevon he is a man obsessed with ruling his empire and having complete control over it. And "evil overlord" isn't a bad thing in terms of writing and story. For example I think Freeza is still the best villain in the Dragon Ball franchise because even after Super, he's never a hero, just a more nuanced and intelligent villain. Big Boss is a tragic hero who is a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders goes from a well meaning soldier who is shown how awful his government to a revolutionary who hates the very fabric of what he was cut from. I didn't see any of that in Brevon but feel free to point out some scenes, I haven't played Freedom Planet 1 in a few years.

Maybe I just got lucky, but I only died once to this boss fight and it was only to the first phase. canceling Lilac's Dragon Boost is very over powered.

@@dandeh2440 You do unless you play as Milla. Lilac has dragon boost, Carol has wild kick. Brevon's has 5 attacks on loop in the same order and they are easy to avoid once you know what happens when. They hit hard, but have small hitboxes. There is no difficulty in execution. Meanwhile Merga goes full Genocide Sans on us with her bullet hell patterns.

While Lilac vs Merga is the most thematic version of the fight like Carol vs Corazon, at the end of the day, all characters can fight these bosses

Landing a Dragon Boost clash is one of the most epic parts about Lilac vs. Merga.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees Lilac's campaign as the canon storyline.

@@siphillis no, I don't think lilac's story line is THE canon but I think each character's specific side story is cannon. For example Milla meeting Serpentine makes the story make more sense than Lilac as That's when Milla finds out the truth about herself. I would list more but the game is fairly long so I haven't beaten it fully.

I loved Richters boss theme too but I think they're very different feelings. Richter was mind controlled against his will(but still fighting a Belmont for the first time in the franchise was something else) but, Merga made her choices of her own free will. Both are fantastic bosses though.

this is growing on me more and more each time I listen to it, and I feel like especially fighting Merga with Lilac has this strong emotional resonance that isn't there with Brevon, even if Lilac and Carol go at him with piss and vinegar in them from everything he did. Still doesn't take away from how screaming crazy LOUD the Brevon fight's music is.

If you have all the time capsules. Make sure you've watched them all if you haven't already, and then you have to beat Merga again. That will unlock the true ending.

Freedom planet 2 seem a bit more light hearted than 1 since In one it’s a alien trying to murder you but this one is actually more personal now since it’s your own mind fighting you but you feel for them since the earth dragon enslaved them a lot

@SpeedInkling yea same, the secret boss stage was such a tone shift that I was just really confused, and then fighting the boss itself just sucked so much

Yeah I think it's just the story that is carrying the secret boss since if we didn't defeat it, brevon would come sooner (just theory)

It’s you Vs her and her Dagger. At least unlike in Brevon final Phase if you die to one of his normal attacks he slices your Corpse if it’s still there. Merga doesn’t do what Brevon does.

It's a proper showdown, no more armor to protect her, just you and her one on one. Gotta appreciate this series for doing that twice in a row, and both times the villains don't back down at all and come at you full force.
