I really like this :) I may be wrong on this but when talking to a Buddhist friend she mentioned something about how Buddhists often teach that living requires dying - moving from potential to actuality necessarily requires sacrifice (which is opportunity cost in a nutshell I guess). So many people are so afraid of dying that they forget to live..

But who says it has to be this way? Wouldn't it be better if we could decide for ourselves whether we want to live on? I feel like "living requires dying" tells people to just accept this lying down. There is beauty in ephemeral things. That's why I want to see as many as possible without some illness or accident or "old age" cutting it short.

Your theory is not true, we do not define a word by other words. The fact that we can define words especially when we first learn them is that we unconsciously used to make an image of every word in our mind to help us understand them, and then they transfer from our short-term memory into our long-term memory as we use them often. For example the word "apple" when we first learned this word, we used to put an image of an apple in our mind to recognize it, and we kept using it very often so it transferred into the long-term memory and became a spontaneous thing to define. Dictionaries contain explanations and paraphrases that help us forming that image more clearly not only to understand nouns but also verbs adjectives and adverbs.. Basically words are defined by usage, Hope that answers your question.

I just wanted to say thanks.. You really opened my mind, seriously. For example I never thought about how we over-exaggerate times in our lives and just call them the "good ole days" when they may or may not have actually been as good as we make them seem and forget the bad things (or vice versa). Like being a young kid. Sure it was great, no job and stuff, but really so what? As a kid you have to deal with hard homework, mean kids or teachers at school, nightmares, always having to do what older people said, and going to bed early which I hated. But we forget about how bad those things were as if it wasn't serious, because its not serious now. But it was serious to you then as much as the things you worry about now. Never thought about it like that.
