The door vents are to let air OUT of the cab. The front of the doors incorporate air vents (the oval holes you see when the door is open). When you move at speed through the air a low pressure area is created at the front of the doors (Bernouli!) which effectively "sucks" the air out of the cab, through those vents. So if you open up the air INLETS, you need those vents open to enable the air to flow. If air can't get out, then no fresh air can get in! Lots of folk remove those 'pointless' vents when they replace their door panels, but they're there for a reason. Particularly if you replace all your door seals and window rubbers. Believe me, you want to keep them if your doors are in good shape with nice new seals and rubbers.

Great videos, thanks for taking us along. I do have a suggestion, If you havent already look up the cut and but method, it makes trimming and cutting all these small and large fitting pieces much easyier. Have a good day

if you cover the paint stripper with wax paper after application it will work better.

It's like watching myself take apart my doors on the restoration of our 71 Westy. One suggestion that has helped me, instead of a parts can, I use small ziplocks (sold as jewelry bags) that I label as I take the parts off and then organize into plastic shoe bins. It has really been a huge help during reassembly. The bags can usually be purchased with a variety of sizes. Another great video. When do we see some mini ramp action? L8R SK8R.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. I take ziplocs, even if there is only two screws in a bag, I label them with green masking tape saying what they are and where they go. Otherwise it becomes even less fun later on

I have the same issue with my doors. I am considering removing the skin as I have dents in area's that are not very accessible. I also figure in the long run It might allow me to better repair the door. Thanks for another great video!!! Look forward to the next one.

man awesome, deciding what to do with mine, my check strap broke and the door got over extended by the PO prob backed out somewhere and it caught the door so the front gap is wide / off , not sure what i will do to save it, trying to find a door i can swap but the late bays have a different check strap design and hinge. I know they make hinge conversion kits but that doesn't address the check strap so who knows! i really wish somebody repopped complete doors for these things , i think in the future the way bay prices have been going that we will eventually get some full metal doors! thanks for the inspiration as usual

Maybe some day, but honestly it seems like reproduction parts for the bay windows are disappearing

Have you tried using citra strip on automotive paint? My bus had a rhino liner like paint on the cargo floor, and citrastrip is amazing at taking it off. Guess I can just try it on the next paint spot I need to take off before going and picking up the aircraft stripper.
@Vangabonders

I have not tried citrastrip but I've found at this point that only paint stripper ultra works for most things!

@@Vangabonders gotcha. Thanks for the video. I have some Swiss cheese on my two doors, but only appears to be on the bottom vertical faces. Hopefully my fabrication will be more straight forward than yours.

I am surprised that before you went to all the trouble of making the pieces yo.cover the rust holes you didn*t check out some doors from another bus, and cut those pieces out at least it would look like the German factory look.

HA - "...OH OH...' is far more restrained than my normal "F-CK F-CK F-CK" when something goes wrong - HA. TOTAL BS re the aircraft stripper - HA - USE COOPERS STRIPPER from NEW ZEALAND. If you do use that CRAP stripper you used - once you have put that CRAP paint stripper on - place a cheap plastic sheet over the stripper - it retains the chemicals that 'sort of strip you paint - BUT - 'HOT TIP' USE COOPER STRIPPER - HA. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.
