In this video we plan our amazing trip to Mollies Motel and Diner. (A place well worth visiting!)
A 200+ mile round trip so we needed to think about charging.

Again, most valuable information, Steve. Your son is adorable! I've never been to the UK so a bonus for me is seeing some of the scenery and Mollies Motel and Diner - well, we'll have to visit it!

Thank you so much Steve for the kind words. It's true that I've concentrated mainly on Tesla cars but you're spot on highlighting the issues of sub-standard extension leads, or leaving them coiled up on a reel.

Thanks again! I wish in the USA we had 220 (230?) V mains. My granny lead only pulls 1.2 kW since VW supplied my e-Golf with a 10 amp 120V trickle job. But, I only use it when visiting the parents-in-law. Otherwise, I have a 32 amp capable 240V EVSE at home. Cheers!

Bought a used 16 eGolf for my daily and been using for the past month & it’s perfect for my boring drive into work. Just been slow charging at home as I only drove 25 miles round trip. Thanks for the content, leaned a few trips and tricks. Born & raised in Brighton before moving to the States as a teenager, but my Mum still lives there 🇬🇧👍🏼

@@beachbumis -New E-Golf's are discontinued with the Golf 8 now on sale. Best you can do is look for used models or stock models. Be wary of ones pre 2017, they have a smaller battery and much lower range (the new range is low enough!!)

I agree people with EVs need a better understanding of public charging. I went to a Rapid Charger yesterday where a PHEV driver took for over an hour when there was slower charging points available.

Steve, I love your videos. I currently drive a PHEV and will be going full BEV when my lease runs out in a few months. I'm in the U.S., so road trips are much longer than in the U.K. Is the 0-80% fast charging accurate and how is the stereo in the e-Golf? I'll probably keep it less than a year until the Buzz is available. I wanted something inexpensive for a bridge vehicle. Thanks.
@SteveJulien

Thanks! The stereo is fine and it’s really well put together. For road trips, the sweet spot is 10/20% - 80% for fastest charging. The Buzz looks ace!

Those posts with a 3 pin plug are a bit silly, would be much better to just fit dual 7kw. Had a Golf GTE (PHEV) before the eGolf and while it wouldn't charge at 32A on type 2, it would go at 16A so quite a bit better than the 10A or so on a granny cable. Somewhere like Bicester Village, that wants people to come from far away and spend a few hours, should have dozens of chargepoints fitted already!

Yes, I agree. They had to have a man on call to start and finish the charge as well. But old school.

I’m a fan of the VW GTE’s much better PHEV’s than the BMW ones.

How do you get on with the windows steaming up in the egolf? I find that unless I run the heating all the time, which don't help the range, it's just constantly steamed.
@SteveJulien
@SteveJulien 4 жыл бұрын
We’ve only had one steaming incident. Have you checked for any damp under the floor mats and boot?

I find it happens quite a lot on my drive to work early mornings after preheating the car to thaw it out.... benefit though is my journey to work doesn't require me to drive in any eco modes. I am yet to venture outside of a range that can't get me back to my home charger. Public points here have yet to be reliable or convenient.
