Something I'd like to add is that here in Belgium the id.3 would cost around 38k, while the model 3 SR+ costs around 49k, this is a large difference, especially since the range (which is one of the most important features people look at) is the same or even better with the id.3. Essentially the id.3 would not be as great and good as the model 3 overall, but would be good (enough) on the things that matter, especially in Europe. So I do think the id.3 is a real competitor for Tesla in Europe and I wouldn't be surprised to see it beat Tesla as long as Tesla doesn't bring out its own cheaper hatchback car where the focus is on price and practicality and less on performance and "luxury". Something else is that in terms of cargo space, it seems that VW chose to have a smaller front, where as Tesla has a larger one. This is essentially a design choice. VW could easily have put and extra forward trunk if it enlarged the front. However many people (again in Europe) will like the smaller profile of the ID.3 and will not really care about the front space. Honestly this might have also been a category, the ID.3 is almost half a meter shorter, this might come in handy when looking for parkingspots, turning, ... etc. though it might be limited in comparison to other features. So to conclude: The model 3 has a real competitor here due to the difference in price mostly this while the range is still better with the ID.3. The performance (topspeed and acceleration) is in fact a non issue, you almost never go faster than 130 km/h on the roads and super acceleration is not really necessary either. Software wise, the autodrive is ofcourse unfortunate, then again you don't really need this either (yet). So all in all ID.3 might beat out Tesla in Europe untill either Tesla comes with a new cheaper EV or if they can get their prices down (maybe the Berlin factory will be able to change things drastically?).

I like the way you presented this comparison, but PLEASE see other comments and fix your video/conclusion. You just missed a lot of points: - VW ID.3 will be CO2 neutral - thats unique! - VW ID.3 is much quieter when being driven (especially on higher speeds) - VW ID.3 has better technology when it comes to Head--Up-Display, IQ Matrix LED lights, CO2 heatpump availability, panorama roof with electric sun protection, ID Light... - VW ID.3 might have less assistent systems but the ones that are there will work much better (it has a very well working speed sign detection with prediction, a very good lane assistent and a very good ACC) - Safety will be very good in ID.3 as well, e.g. it has central (far side) airbags which Tesla doesn't even offer - Tesla Model 3 will have full trailer hitch and roof load - so thats a plus for Cargo for Tesla - VW ID.3 offers DCC in Max trim and will be much more comfortable to ride If you want performance, go for Tesla, no way. If you travel long ranges and across borders (e.g. through europe) very often, go for Tesla (LR model + superchargers). If you need full trailer hitch, ID.3 won't fit. Otherwise, you really should think about the ID.3.

VW software problems are overrated. The only features missing on delivery will be the augmented reality function of the HUD (the normal HUD features work fine), apple car play, android auto (none of which Tesla's have even as options) and automatic routing to chargers but all will come as an update in Q1 2021. I think your assertion that Tesla software is better and always will be is a stretch too - take a look at the VW driver assist systems - the latest are now the equal or better than Tesla's autopilot (take a look at TeslaBjørn's auto park of a Model 3 video - lol - and the numerous Tesla summon videos - the phantom breaking - the list is endless). So no, although the VW infotainment gui needs some work, the rest is better than fine and has features you can't get for a Tesla. And let's not mention build quality, fit and finish. lol Also the price is very difficult to compare to what you think a US price will be. Prices for the Model 3 and ID.3 can vary across Europe quite substantially, and also, if the ID.3 ever came to the US, it would be built in the Chattanooga plant where they will build the ID.4 - that will reduce import tariffs by quite some margin I imagine. Trunk space - check out the TeslaBjørn banana box test for both - of course the ID.3 wipes the floor with the model 3, it's a hatchback. With seats up, they are the same (even with the Frunk) with seats down, the ID.3 has space for 2 full banana boxes more. Why do you miss out the other ID.3 features that Tesla doesn't have, like IQ Matrix LED headlights, and electrically closing panoramic roof curtain? No current Tesla has the hardware for FSD. It's an Elon scam, it will never be good enough with the sensors it has, it is just not possible. Any industry insider that knows anything will tell you the same. You cannot base an industry safety rating of one car which is based on dedicated EV platform, on another that is based on an old ICE platform even if they are from the same manufacturer. They do not even have the same number of airbags - for instance, the ID.3 has a center airbag between driver and passenger - something an e-golf (or a model 3) doesn't have. Your comparison is so flawed, it's worthless but hey, stroke the Tesla fanboy egos why don't you. lol

One of the bigger things reviewers, especially american ones, forget, is that the iD3 is almost half a meter shorter than a model 3. This might not matter in the US, but in Europe, with narrow streets, small parking spaces, winding roads and city streets and alleys, a small car almost always sells way better. To us europeans the tesla model 3 is an average sized family sedan and not compact at all. A more compact family car like the iD3 historically always sold better here. I think this is a very important point on which the iD3 has the tesla beat in the EU market. Basically a very similar car but in a more compact city car package, and a bit cheaper han the model 3, which is excactly what quite a large portion of europeans want. There's a reason VW sees this as the spiritual succesor to the VW golf, one of the most popular cars ever in europe...

VW is always been very pricy for options, and you see that also in the models they have. Tesla model 3 has proven for some years that software updates work, gets new features, it has proven to be a good car. Service is completely different arrange than VW dealers... 1. Did you ever compare a VW Golf with a BMW 3er. 2. Performance: How often do you use 0 to 100? How often do you use maximum speed, especially outside of Ggermany. 3. Tech Features and Driver Assist: What features should be better in the tesla? Tesla hat no HUD Tesla has no heat pump Tesla can not read speed limits and cannot adjust the ACC to the speed limits Tesla should have full self driving possibility, but only when you pay another 7000 Euros and nobody knows when this will come. Tesla has no sound reducing windshield Tesla has no sun protection at the panorama roof. Tesla has no matrix light. 4. Cargo space: The cargo space of the ID.3 ist much better usable then the two of the Tesla. You con increase the cargo space in the ID.3 not only by folding the back seats, but also by using the space up to the roof. So according to my calculation the result is 6:2 for the VW. Beside this: The VW ist smaller, so more easy for parking an manovering (turning circle 10,2 meters)

In several european countries the VW e Golf is outselling Tesla M3. How is this possible as the e Golf has very poor range? There is no doubt that the ID3 will be a much better car than the e Golf so my guess is that the ID3 will outsell Tesla M3 in Europe. And with Audi e tron (which is a mediocre car imo) already outselling Tesla Model X, Porsche Taycan outselling Model S in Germany despite being twice as expensive and upcoming VW ID4 and Audi Q4 e tron as tough Model Y competitors I don't see much room for Tesla.

Recently a man lost his driver's license because he used the tablet to adjust his windshield wipers and lost control of his car. Modern cars should do such adjustment by its own. Don't get me wrong. Hey buddy, great video. I won suggest though that you point out that considering the close scoring of the vehicle's specification, this forms the rationalisation for the ID3 expected performance in Europe and China, and the reason why it wouldn't be successful in the US. For Americans, the larger vehicle at the same specs means its a nobrainer to choose the Tesla. But in Europe where smaller overall cars are desirable, but the specs are so close, the car may do very well there, and in China, where space is a premium. Would have been a good final point to end on.

In Australia, the Tesla Model 3 SR+ is around $83,000 AUD, or just under $60,000 USD. Not sure why this is but it could be because we have to pay various EV taxes, which are designed to discourage the driving of EVs and encourage the use of petrol and diesel vehicles. This policy seems to be in place because some government advisers moonlight on the board of Saudi Aramco and also because the less people who drive petrol the less fuel excise the government gets.

The Model 3 may have a larger cargo space nominally, but because of the hatchback design, the ID.3's usability is much better. And that despite it being 40 cm shorter. Overall a good comparison, just a couple of things you missed: - cargo space: there is not much point having a warehouse sized room if you can only access it from a 1 meter square window. so being a hatchback the ID3 clearly wins this as the model 3 is a sedan and it's "trunk" is for all intents and purposes effectively useless. - external vehicle size: you completely missed this category, I know the model 3 is the smallest Tesla, but it's still enormous, there is a reason that large sedans don't sell well outside the US, it's because they are difficult to manoeuvre through narrow streets, shopping centre car parks, and people driveways. So again the ID3 will win this category. To put this in perspective the Model 3 is longer than many people movers (minivans I believe you call them). I'm not trying to be negative towards Tesla (and I've never owned a VW), I was really hoping that the model 3 would be a small hatch back because Tesla already had a large sedan (Model S), so making a second large sedan (model 3) didn't make sense and disappointed me when it was released. You should do this comparison to the Peugeot e-208, it like the model 3 is already available in Europe and isn't plagued with the software issues that VW has because Peugeot has been making production EV's since the mid 90's.

I would like to see someone even attempt to put 2 dining chairs in the boot of the model 3, I doubt that is even possible let alone the larger items, this is only 1 example I can provide many, This is not unique to the model 3, all sedans boots (trunks) are useless. The current Audi A4 and BMW 3 series are both enormous vehicles as well, so my point remains that Tesla already had a large sedan (Model S) so there was no need for a second large sedan. I actually remember when the BMW 3 series the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla were small cars BTW my wife's people mover (minivan) seats 7 adults comfortably and is shorter (@4.6m) than the Model 3 (@4.7m), so by this measure alone I cant see how you can classify the model 3 as anything but enormous?

@@daveamies5031 Yes, if you need to move furniture any sedan won't be the best choice, that's not a typical scenario for most people though. What would you call an Audi A6, BMW 5 series or 7 series then? I just know that I have no problems driving or parking my Model 3 in the small european town I live in.

I don't think you can compare the two. The Model 3 is a luxury sedan. The id3 is...well..not luxury. The interior is cheap, the screen is tiny, the trunk is small-ish and then there's the elephant in the room: the software is crap. (also it doesn't charge as fast and can't use the supercharger network).....Plus: if you buy something from VW after dieselgate then you will never learn (then again: 50% voted republican...so who am i kidding?).

I agree on most points. But no need to draw politics into it. I don't care which side is elected, all politicians are untrustworthy, and it definitely does not relate to choosing an EV.

While you try to make this seems like a real comparison, you fail big time. I agree on the 3 first category, but on Tech and features you just pick a few things from the ID.3, and then claim the Model 3 is a winner. Where is the mention of LED Matrox lights, that are superior to the Model 3 led, apple carplay, android auto, heatpump, seats with thigh suppert ? Thats in the Id.3 , and the model 3 have nothing like it. Also you keep the spin about bad software in the ID.3. It´s true, that the first cars will lack 2 function, that will come latest in Q1 2021. But beside that, the software in the car is working as intended, and with no flaws. So many videoes is out about that. Response on the touchscreen is even better compared to the Model 3. So no, ID. 3 wins that catergøry. On the drivers assists the ID.3 comes with car2car, that is a huge increase in safety, it has real signreading, and adjusting speed automaticly, the cruise control reads the map, and adjust speed in tight curves etc. Can the Model 3 that ?. While Tesla FSD sounds great, reality is, that the present systems are full of problems, like phantom breaking, lanekeep that goes off, when camereas get dirty etc. Tesla is no where near selfdriving cars, and beside laws in europe prohibit self driving, since beside the tecknical stuff, there are so many other issues, that needs to be solved first. The only places the Model 3 beats the Id.3 is in accelleration, charging speed, and the fact it can tow.

I don't understand why Tesla don't let other cars charge at their superchargers. Elon says that the important thing for Tesla is that electric vehicles will take over, and he even said Tesla is willing to help other manufacturers with development of electric vehicles in some way. Since the charging at a supercharger is no longer free of cost, wouldn't availability for everyone make that happen quicker? And wouldn't Tesla also benefit from that? And maybe that would also help Tesla to build even more superchargers and even quicker. Seems like a win-win, doesn't it? Of course reality is usually more complex than meets the eye, so what am I missing here?

I caught him cheating, moving the numbers around. He shows prices of the ID.3 models. But then, at the 4:03 mark of the video, he compares comparable models of the two cars. He slyly lowers the ID.3 price to 40,200 euros (from the previous stated 43,680) by subtracting the German rebate, while NOT attaching that same rebate to the Tesla. (Tesla stays at 42,900) , so that the ID.3 looks cheaper to buy, WHICH IT IS NOT. So then that at the end, he gives the VW the check mark for cheaper, instead of the Tesla.

Wow. There's so much wrong with this review. It was done like a pure Electric/Tesla fan boy's perspective. Did you ever talk about how the ID3 drives?...That's the most important thing to most (especially non Tesla) drivers. The ID3 has been reported very quiet and pleasant to drive with good dynamics and a comfortable ride. How about, what's it's like sitting in the back of both vehicles as well? Regarding their respective ranges: I wouldn't be surprised if the VW surpassed the Model 3's range based off what we know about everyday Tesla's in the wild vs EPA. We'll see? On Safety, you compared the ID3 to a Golf. Well, unless that golf was an EV with a skateboard battery. They're not comparable. Everyone knows, Skateboard Batteries add to the overall structural integrity of the vehicle, and thus usually very safe. I'd wait for the Insurance Institute Rating. or give the Model 3 the Prospective Nod from previous ratings. Saying all that: The ID3, should have similar or more Level 2 driving aids (lane keep, warning to steer the vehicles; keep speed and distance, read signs, speed limits, etc.) and safety equipment the Model 3 has . Early reviews indicate this as well? Did you really, just dismiss the ID3, and give Tesla/The Model 3 the benefit of the doubt on Fit and Finish and service!?....... And where do you get off, making a rating on Full Self Driving. Says who!? How do you even list that as a legitimate criteria, as it's not on most non Tesla Drivers mind, and it won't be around for years, if ever? It's so embarrassing to hear a reviewer hang his hat on that after years of empty promises with vapid hyperbole. If this cars gonna be important. It's gotta attract the non-Tesla Drivers (who just happen to be 99% of car buyers). As long as the ID3 looks great; drives well; is relatively spacious and quiet, the software doesn't have to be perfect or top of the line. It just has to be functional. Buyers just want a good car. Lastly, you didn't review either of these cars, particularly the ID3. So, how is anything you said final or makes sense (such as giving the Model 3 the nod on fit and finish)? Wow. Too funny. Tesla Logic.

People keep saying tech in Tesla, but living In the Apple ecosystem, Tesla doesn’t do carplay and some apps that I like having via carplay will not be there. Also I use Apple Music and tidal and will have to use my phone to navigate the library instead of the screen which is like going back 5 tech years. You should have an entertainment section separate from tech. I know Tesla has Netflix and KZfaq and internet subscription. Don’t know about VWs. Tesla also doesn’t do satellite radio in the newer Y’s because of starlink presumably.

@@seattlevkk ahh okay, that is something most people do not care for I guess. The fact that Tesla does not support Android Auto nor Apple Car Play yet, weights a lot heavier for many because it locks them down to Tesla's select services. Choice is king, while Tesla's system is still very nice, it is somewhat limiting when interacting with everyday services that people have become used too. Accessing parking apps. Messaging services. Audio apps, taxi/fleet management software and a lot more.

First of all I am European. 2nd both cars are very expensive, so I won't buy any of these. In Europe we don't care so much about horse power. If you got a 105 horse power its more than enough for highways or for any other reasons. Yes, we care very much about quality, so yeah maybe Tesla is better software equipped but no thank you. 3rd we basically don't need huge cars, a hatchback is just fine. The longest distance I've drove one way was about 770 km (481,25 miles) from one European country to another European country. 4th if the car can provide a range of at least 300-400 km that would be just fine. 5th we don't spend money on unnecessary stuff, you might call us cheap, well we know to make a difference between an investment and a car, that takes you from A to B. Conclusions: if Tesla does not fix their quality problems and do not lower the price in Europe, their sales won't be great. We have another mindset, we don't need or care to show off with a big, shinny car that might rust in 5 years! Thanks but not thanks! :)

I'm European too, and you can't just generalize like that... Many people like fast cars, otherwise why do you think all the manufacturers also offers bigger engines in their lineup. Some people like bigger cars than a hatchback, otherwise you wouldn't see BMW 3 and 5 series, Audi A4, A5, A6, Mercedes C and E class, Opel Insignia etc. etc. Tesla quality is not an issue anymore. Take a look at this video for a long term review of a Tesla Model 3 that has done 68.000 miles, and driven a lot as an Uber taxi, with literally thousands of people in and out of the car kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMumkqeEr-C7kWw.html

Though I am a little disappointing in its styling vs the concept, I do think it is a great EV that should sell in Europe quite well. The ID4 crossover EV is what VW wants to bring across the water to America first, but that will still be a year away , but after 5 or 6 years of promises and concepts VW is finally producing them.
