Awesome! Just bought an 85 Cabby. Other than it being a super fun and cute car, one of the main reasons I got it was to have something straightforward to wrench around on. I'd rather just take my newer Nissan Altima go to a shop for most repairs. But these Classics are just fun to work on! You got a new subscriber buddy. Thanks for the videos. You've got a good personality and a laid-back way of explaining things

To be save just replace it the tentioner does not cost that mutch more and your already in there. He wont do it but now is a good time to replace the oil seal as well even if it does not leak. yes youre probably fine but the changes of it leaking in the future is high so better be save and replace it.

Thought the mk1 only went through 84? 86 didn’t have round headlights unless is a conversion.

Not as a negative comment, but to learn and make sure: aligning like that feels like you can miss a few millimeters. Isn't that a problem? Second: when turning the different sprockets, can't you damage the car (Isn't that the same effect as when a driving belt brakes and everything turns on it's own, braking the engine) It seems pretty do-able, tho i might try it myself from the moment I'm sure that it actuality starts (hasn't driven in 16 years...)

the belt can only move so much, it would have to jump a whole tooth on one of the sprockets. this engine is a non- interference engine so you can snap a timing belt and no damage will occur

Slightly confusing this tutorial - others (PJ) say get the crank aligned first with it's own cover mark, then the camshaft, turning with the original cam belt, then proceed. The lower sprocket doesn't come into it, unless the distributor is needs realignment...

This dangerously inaccurate .the timing marks on the crank at gearbox side cam mark to tappet cover .no 1 piston at top.rotor on distributer lined up with notch with idler wheel.

@@jimyou200 I think this is what he meant: The timing marks are as follows: the crank lines up with gearbox notch (careful there are some that have a line at 6 degrees before TDC) - the cam sproket mark lines up with tappet cover check number 1 piston (with screw driver) to make sure it is all the way at the top - Rotor on distributor needs to be lined up with the notch on the metal housing of the distributor base and something about the idler wheel (not sure how the idler wheel fits into the picture).

@@ProblemSolverGarage BTW YOU DO NEED TO GET THE ENGINE TDC OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE A VALVE THROUGH YOUR PISTON AND IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO REUSE THE CRANK BOLD
