Thanks again for the feedback. I just installed the Euro OEM short shifter tonight. My adjustments ended up being a little different. I at first loaded the cables toward the driver compartment. When doing so, I couldn't shift into 2nd, and 5th & 6th were very notchy. I ended up backing off a couple teeth on the fore/aft adjustment and that was fine. For the side to side adjustment, I ended up just letting the cable go slack after disengaging the spring, and then re-engaging.

Solid straight forward video with clear instructions. Now I can row the gears again in my mk4 .:R32 again!!

This helped me greatly the other day, I installed a short shifter on my Skoda Fabia vRS and found I wasn't able to select gears, I spent a lot of time fiddling about with it but after finding this video it took me a couple of minutes to rectify the issue. Thanks!

Thanks. I followed this to reset my cables. I then Noticed i had a loose nut on top of the selector. It had spun on me so my gears were R, 1,3,5 only. The knurling between the shift arm and the shaft has ovalized. I reset it to the double tooth and tightened up. Functional, thanks for the cable reset and seeing where246 should get into gear.

HI, I have a vw 1.4 tsi (6 speed transmission). I've watched your shift adjusment for 5 speed shifter. Is the 6 speed done the same way? My 1st, 3rd and reverse gears sometimes do not go into gear smootly (i have to apply some force more than usual). I wanted to adjust the linkage cables to see if it helps.

hi, i recently did a whole clutch set replacementon a vw bora mk4 6 speed, the shifter seems to have a stiffer change in all gears, the shop claimed that thats how its supposed to be, will this procedure help me loosen my transmition?

Just wondering if this would cause what I've got going on in my 2009 VW EOS. I stopped at an intersection and shifted into 1st gear and ended up in 3rd gear. Will not go into reverse, 1st, 2nd or 5th and 6th. I cannot see anything that looks broken under the shifter boot so?

I have a 2007 Passat 6 speed manual transmission. It has been sitting a while and now it is difficult to get into 2nd and 4th gears. I don't feel the detent when shifting into those two gears. Think an adjustment will solve this?

I have a 2003 Jetta GLI 24 Valve VR6 with an 02M transmission, the same trans as the 20th Anniversary/337 Either the 02M doesn't have an L shaped locking pin or it was broken before I bought the car. I changed the CV axles, control arms, struts, wheel bearings and all 3 engine/trans mounts myself. I plan to replace the shift cables, exhaust and clutch at the same time but for now I just want to adjust the shift cables. I get the jist of it but the 02M trans doesn't have that big ass counter weight and everything is reversed. So where you say clockwise, common sense says I need to move counterclockwise. Does that make sense?

Hi Jim, Until i started to mess with my MK6 Golf, i asked my VW mechanic to set/adjust the gear selector several times, because the gearbox has never been smooth! I ened up setting it myself with the pin... Last week during a clutch job, the pin broke and i was like OMG?! :/ i finally stumbled across your video looking for a solution! Guess what? Thank you - my lock pin isn't broken but doesn't engage, performed this manoeuvre and it did the trick although 2nd doesn't go in say 1 in 30 times. I noticed I had to tighten the selector bold with a washer underneath it to prevent play. Does the play need to be totally gone for all gears to slide seemlessly? Also is there something I'm missing with the lock pin as it just won't go in when pushing the gear selector down.

What if we have a short throw shift knob, such as the B&M and it does not have that 5mm lock? Im at a loss on how to adjust it

I had to take the shifter tower out to remove the locking pin I finally put it all back together and every gear is smooth except first is it possible that I put the shifter tower in a incorrect position??
