It's now VW's best seller, but was the first generation Tiguan a good car?
JJ does a full review of the Mk1 5N (5N1) Volkswagen Tiguan including comfort, practicality, performance, handling, styling, economy.
Model on test is a 2008 1.4 TSI 150.
The Tiguan 5N was produced and sold from 2007 - 2018.

Backseat JJ is back at last! That was a good long holiday. Funny how you just found him waiting for you at the side of the road. I didn't know the Tiguan had the sliding back seat function similarly to the Nissan Note. A really useful feature. Those inquisitive cows seemed to be interested in your filming activities.

Yes, certainly convenient that he seems to have gone on a rambling holiday - surprised he survived 😂 They came running over to see what was going on, I had to get out of there when they seemed to be trying to break through the wall lol

We've got a 2008 2.0 TDi 4 motion automatic. Didn't want a DSG 'box or the Ford Powershift as both very likely to create large repair bills. Wife much prefers automatic so 6-speed Aisin has good reliability record. Is SE spec along with leather interior, cruise control and panoramic roof so it ticks my personal wish boxes. Surprised there's no front fog lights. Fuel economy around 38mpg on a 10+ mile journey, have achieved 42mpg best by ambling on A-roads or steady 60 on the motorway. Overall, very impressed but not entirely happy with the handling. It has 4-wheel drive and fully independent suspension so I'm looking to get 4-wheel alignment done and then see about improving the tyres on it.

Nice one, thanks for commenting. I like an old style torque converter gearbox anyway, it's what I've got in my car! Sounds like a nicely specced Tiguan :)

2009 4motion with pano roof.i must admit I am happy I found this version anyone who goes in goes out loving the car

That sounds like a nice car. The one I tested was a bit low on specification, which is a shame!

@@JJonCars yeah mine has a sunroof but with clothes seats idk but im inloce with it and I do love sport mode

I have a 2015 184bhp TDi match automatic. It’s a good car, plenty of power and quite economical, even when towing. It handles well, I think the suspension on mine is firmer than yours, and it’s comfortable.

Cheers Stuart. It's a good all-rounder for sure and I bet it's good with 184bhp and auto too - makings of a great long distance cruiser in addition to all the practicalities.
