Nicely done! Draining to the right level can be unnerving... I always get the feeling I've drained too much. Maybe I'll service my Mom's Jetta before we sell the car. Nice big sticker on the garage!

+Thomas EXOVCDS Thanks! It is a bit, pouring new fluid down the drain. Might have to get an actual sign for the garage and start decorating the place. I've started on the beer bottle wall on the inside, although next earthquake they'll probably all fall down...

Thanks for all your Vids! I have spent 4 months (intermittently) rebuilding my daughter-in-laws VW 01M Auto transmission. Lot of work and hoist unusable for a long time, Haha. After all that, and a couple of long days installing it back in her beetle the 01M has No forward drive! AHHHHHH! Reverse works fine. ATF pressure from port shows what I think is close to correct pressures, P=46psi cold, similar warm. Shifting to R flashed to 150/160 then settled at 65psi. N= 65psi D=53ps1, up to 120 at 3000rmp, #= 53psi, 2= 53psi, 2=53psi There is a slight tic of the pressure needle when shifted from 2-1 but nothing at all into Drive, 3 or 2. Bought a ross-tech VCDS .I did a scan and it showed no trans codes, perhaps it just needs more running to throw a code? I had no idea how much to screw in the Valve body springs on any that were adjustable, (what everyone seems to call the "Kerma mod"adjustment) so that's why I tested the ATF line pressure. Would you have any recommendations on what to look at or try with the VCDS? ( ATF filled correctly @~40C using vcds). I went into "Basic settings" ; "Group" 001; "Selector lever Position" was P, "Throttle Valve Voltage" was 0.00V "Accelerator Pedal Value" was 0.0% and "Multi-function Switch" was 00000111. People talk of a "reset" using key on, gas pedal to the floor for 10 seconds... Should this be done? Thanks,, Pete

Well done buddy, man not too many guys would challenge that one. Don't see too many DIY trany repairs on KZfaq, this should do well. Biggest drawback was getting parts. No VW dealer in town or is the cost marked up too much. This side of the world parts are not such a hassle to get. Lovely spot you have there. Cheers
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 8 жыл бұрын
+STEVE ROB That's one of the ideas behind Badgertronix, to take on the jobs no one else is silly enough to. There is a VW dealer in town but going there for parts would have made this project unviable. The majority of cars on the road here are Japanese and VW/Audi are seen as luxury brands. Even aftermarket parts are 4 times the price I can buy from the US or UK shipping included. Thanks, the new place is very nice. Cheers!

When I purchased the replacement solenoid kit...there were specific instructions on how to reattach the shift valve. It needs to be shifted into park, then push the valve into the valve body then tighten the set screw.

Really cool video!!!! I consider to do the same on mine 01M FDF trans. I had the same symptoms as yours but only once. Next day after issue occurred it worked well. My wife drives this car too and ours driving styles are different. So maybe my trans. was just "confused"... I'm observing its behavior right now.

Much love to New Zealand from Florida! I bought a 2001 Beetle from Craigslist just to try this on. Here's my problem after re-installation, no 4th gear! When I take off in D, there's a little hesitation. Should I try to adjust my manual valve or install a new G38 sensor?
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 7 жыл бұрын
+Chris Love hello and welcome! Was it working ok before you rebuilt it? If it was you need to recheck your work. The torque specs are very specific and you can get problems if overtightened even slightly. Otherwise it could be a pressure problem, not sure about the G38 sensor. Cheers

Hello once again friend. Can you tell me please, how long is the red tube at the 7:40? Somebody lost it, and this is the probably reason my car is not working. I hope for the low ATF inside did not destroyed another parts. I hear it have to be 4cm from the black body end from downstear, but it is too long I think. Thank you very much, I have no chance to compare it. Best regards, Michal

More love from Florida Badger! Here's my situation: As shown at 4:00 in your video, you slide the manual valve link back into place having hooked into the valve just ahead of re-attachment. It appears to be in Park when you're doing this. Forgive the DIY stupidity but, I can't get the link to go back on while attached (or even not while attached) to the valve itself. It either fits in the screw hole but doesn't reach the other side or you slide it over the cylinder thing and it wont reach the screw hole. Please help an ol'man trying to fix his daughters jetta..

Yessir I second that, because mine was in neutral when I successfully refit the part about 3 hours ago! HUZZAA. When in neutral it was only off the center of the screw hole by a smidge.. and i mean a smidge. I loosened up the screw already in the link and .. after watching what your hands did in your video.. *pushed* a little bit. and voila, it just popped in. I hurredly screwed it in with my hand then made sure it wasnt crossthreaded, and screwed it in the rest. Finally, it's in! Going back to my video so I can leave you alone, and then work with Kips on the next step(s).. Thanks Badger good times good times.

Hello, Pls I need your help.i have an 02 VW Bora with an 01M auto transmission.it has only 89990km on it. It recently started to leak AFT from the opening between the engine and the gearbox. Checking it revealed the torque converter seal was bad. The gearbox was removed and a new seal installed. Fresh ATF was poured in and the leak was fixed. I took the car for a test drive, it was just fine. Went to a car wash, washed the car and on my way home, the car started acting up. It won't move on drive, and reverse. Prior to the seal replacement, the car was scanned for codes and 01192 was found. This was cleared after the seal change out and the code hasn't returned again but the car won't move in drive or reverse. Pls what can I do? This is the second gearbox I am using for this car with very little mileage (

Have you noticed any big changes since the valve body rebuild?

+rhkips Thanks and thanks for all the advice! Ha that cars staying with me after all the work I have done to it. Just the timing chain to go later on this year and it will as good as new. yeah I'll give it a week and check for leaks and the levels. Fluid level is about right based on what I drained and what I put back in. It's all in the edit my friend ;) I've been for a few drives since I finished it and I have to say changes are a lot smoother overall. You notice changing into 4th, but you notice it less than before the refresh (if that makes sense). 2nd and 3rd are like a hot knife through butter. I'll post an update after 1000kms or so you can see how it's holding up.

Badgertronix So happy I could help you out so much! I've been going stir-crazy as of late due to a few injuries keeping me from working as much as I'd like, so it's nice to at least be useful by proxy! :] Have fun with the timing chain! I've been purposefully avoiding mine despite knowing it really needs attention. Too much potential for "while I'm in there" modifications... Glad to hear your gearbox is shifting well after all that! The 3-4 shift does seem to be a bit awkward in these things; I think just because the 4th gear ratio is such a drastic change from 3rd, and it seems to work some magic with TCC lockup to try to make it a bit smoother.
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 8 жыл бұрын
+rhkips Sorry to hear that, hope you're on the mend. It sucks not being able to do stuff, a bit like my eternal wait on parts... I'm open to suggestions on mods 'whilst I'm in there'. Anything you can suggest?
@rhkips
@rhkips 8 жыл бұрын
Badgertronix I am greatly amused, as my phone shortened your post to "hope you're on the men." LOL As far as mods go, short of "replace everything," I'm not sure just yet. Earlier versions of the VR6 used a double-row upper timing chain, but I can't see any real benefit to swapping over. It's just adding rotating mass, and they're not even using offset teeth, so no noise reduction. I can't imagine there'd be too much to do in there, really. I'm likely going to be pulling the engine and transmission from the car so I can work on it on the bench, at which point I'll be going after several other hard-to-reach bits and bobs. Yeah, I know, I'm crazy...
@Badgertronix
@Badgertronix 8 жыл бұрын
+rhkips haha well it is a modern world now... I think I'll stick to chain, guides, tensioner, rear main seal and fix the output flange leak on the transmission whilst I'm at it. The engine can stay in the car and I'll just drop the tranny. The 01M is a heavy little sucker though.
