DESCRIPTION
The VWAR S9 is an Android smartwatch living in an Apple Watch style body. It has a retractable camera built into the round side knob and uses a charging dock instead of a wire. It hosts a unique implementation of Android 8.1 which is relatively stripped down for the average user, but deeper features are available through 3rd party apps like “Settings Search”. This video is a basic introduction to the watch. If there is enough interest (number if views), I’ll take the time to develop some follow-up videos with tips and tricks that will be critical to getting the most out of this new technology.

I think it would be pretty cool to get some retrospective history, you’re basically the expert on these niche watches. Modern vs an old kospet, old Android watch that tried something new but was ahead of its time etc. what paved the way to get here?

Thank you for a great video as always! A long time since I have seen one of your videos come on my KZfaq feed - Your channel has come a long way! The watch could be good, except it is probably not waterproof. Because of this I have had to move on to LTE Samsung and Apple watches, which sadly have no camera.

I have the S9 Ultra and I have the S9 on the way from Vwar. It's not waterproof no, but, I am a sanitation worker and I've gotten it fairly wet with water hose splashback and it's been fine. Okay for rain and stuff, I just wouldn't dunk it into a tub of liquid.

Great professional video thank you. Please were you able to test whether the camera size is a physical 8mp or a software upgraded size from 2 or 5mp to 8mp?

It will 100% be software up scaling , I have the ultra version of this and the camera is actually pretty good for the price

Yea, I'm pretty sure it's upscaling, but not sure if it's from 2mp or 5mp. It does seem to be a bit better than the camera on the S8 Ultra if that's any help.

Cool video as always ! The Deal braker for me is that it runs android 8.1 , it's too old . Also ,for someone living in the EU ,will there be any import taxes ? For stuff through aliexpress ,banggood etc we don't have to pay extra since taxes are already included

I hear ya on the OS, but it's what you are stuck with. Another deal breaker for the 2030 crowd is that all the phones today are on Android 14. When watches were Android 5.1 and A8 was the hot new thing for phones, we had the same deal breaker, only earlier versions. So a watch running Android 8.1 in 2018 or so would have been a hot commodity back then. We all jumped for joy with Android 7.1 for watches, actually. So to put it in perspective, just figure that watches will ALWAYS be a few beats behind phone versions of Android. ;)

Just to comment, I had both this watch, called Valdus DW88, and another HW Ultra 2, although 8.1, everything I imagine wanting to do there exists an app (apk) that will do it. To date, I am running current version of CMM Launcher, previously used Nova Launcher 16, with Beach theme.

@@Sunscreen723 My two biggest cons with the watches are (1) no Notification Access and (2) short battery span. Re: (2) Although my current HW Ultra 2 battery wears slightly longer, just as bad. Neither lasts a day. Hence why the default screen timeout is like 10 seconds to keep display off which saves the battery -- somewhat. I saw a KZfaq review on DW99 model where the guy claims they were able to play KZfaq videos for continuous 6 hours and ordinary usage able to get through a day e.g. 8AM to 8PM. I do not know since all watches are built the same but slight variation in the default launcher. Re: (1) Notification Access is unavailable to 3rd party apps. Done in stripped down 8.1 to make "watch smoother and faster". A known issue and without solution (other than flashing ROM to install full version of 8.1 or any OS). With HW Ultra 2, more apps pre-installed which I use actually thus can have notification access. I have discussed much on message board forums e.g. xda.

which android smartwatch would you recommend to someone ? let's say the budget is around 90 euros . I think 4 gb of ram are important and the a square display too ,also running a newer version of androiddev too

In today's market, and given what's actually on the market for sale, I'd pick this one or the S8 Ultra if you like that design, or .... the one I'm about to review if you don't need a camera or SIM card in your Android watch and prefer Bluetooth calling. Haven't done that, but I'm pretty sure it's like most other Android watches in that you'll get about a day under regular use and a couple of days in power saving mode. Here's a neat trick: When you go into the "Bluetooth" mode, it shuts a bunch of stuff off and your app drawer is drastically reduced in the apps you are shown. But if you install the "Organized Drawer" app I show in the video, and make it is refreshed to index all installed apps while in the watch is in the Android mode, then it will still work in the low power Bluetooth mode if you program it to be your side button (it won't show in your app drawer in Bluetooth mode). When you launch it with a press of the side button, it opens and shows ALL your apps, not just the restricted ones. They all work, too. So the special low power aspect of the Bluetooth mode can be partially bypassed with access to your individual apps this way without needing to switch the whole watch back to Android mode. You get a lot more battery life with this trick and still have access to most of what you need.

Not surprised on the battery life, this watch has a lot going on. Any way - the reason for this Comment is to bare my biggest grieveness with cheap Chinese smart/fitness watches (saying Chinese is redundant since no one else makes them). My biggest grieveness is not the hardware, it's the software - the App that configures and runs the watch. Every watch I'm tried from is decent enough hardware, but the software is horrible. Can you recommend a watch that has good matching software? Best would be if there were a Smart Watch for an Android that can use other fitness apps, and use other configuration software so we're not limited to the horrible software that comes with the watch. I've sent 5 smartwatches back to Amazon for this very reason. I suspect all cheap watch are this way. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there some open source software apps that can be paired with these generic smart watches? Anyone know??? Do any of these watches allow us to develop our own, or modify existing applications using an API or with open source code? Thanks for your channel! Any 'Yes', you could be the next great Hand Model. LOL! 🙂

I bought this watch. It sucks. I only use it for the time. It only lasts 20 hours with the always on display off . And it takes 4 hours to charge. 🤷🤦👎
