This guy's a genius. I wish I could've taken a course about this stuff in high school. Art classes aren't the same thing, they're usually talking about paintings and stuff.

highschool, or the one I went to, did "not" teach this kind of thing, it was the basics of art, like drawing still-life and paints, etc.... :( Even college doesn't always teach you what you would like to learn the most and you end up paying big time for that.

Most insightful tips on how to visualize body movement I've ever been exposed to. Since watching this, I created a dozen quick sketches and one nailed the action I visualized simply by relating the chest and pelvis positions.

How amazing and helpful is this! Especially love the line at the beginning about learning off anatomy (alone) not being enough to pull these off- that's what I've learnt for myself as well.

Pretty sure it's "Flat Ronnie." Ronnie the limo driver from the Stern show. Howard has the same standee in his studio. Just another way to stay young and I dig it.

Even after seeing your artwork in comic books for many, many years now. I'm still blown away by how easy you make it look. I've been an artist ever since I could hold a pencil. And only recently have I really begun to pull my ability together. And it's because of watching your videos! Thanks Jim Lee!

this is great. I've loved Jim lee's art since I was old enough to understand comics. my friends and I would always argue the "best" comic artist for various reasons. and even though all the different styles out there are magnificent in their own right, Jim Lee was always my #1 choice. superb.

I have watched many tutorials but this one, has been the one which helped me the most. Jim Lee's art is my favourite, his tutorials are very simple and informative. If anyone is interested in learning more about drawing comic book characters, I recommend that you look up every Jim Lee tutorial you can find.

Damn it 😂. You make it look so easy. You’re incredible. I’m in art school and I have a hard time loosening up in my work, it takes me entirely too long to lay out a pose let alone a finish. Bravo. Just saw you the other day on Fatman Beyond, and while you’ve been here all along, I just now figured out you had a channel. I think the really cool thing is even if you just take his guidelines like how he does the pelvis or how he does pentagonal hands, if you actually use all his tips, even if your rendering is different or the eyes aren't the same or w/e, you can still capture a similar feeling to Jim Lee's work

Tbh I think Comic book artists are best to learn from. They understand how the body works in action and how to simplify the motions to basic shapes and positioning. I learned so much from this 15min video than I ever did in any class or personal practice.

Great stuff! Love that RM cameo in the background. Met Jim Lee in 1990 at a mini con In downtown SF near EMB. Was trying to get him to notice my art but he was getting hounded. Some guy named Bob Harras was giving me props for my art but I was paying too much attention to Jim Lee. What a dummy I was. Suzanne Gaffney and Whilce Portacio were also there.

Hi Jim! Loving your series, serious long time fan, don't quite idolise you (creepy!), but you, humberto, and a bunch of others are my linework heroes, I stare at pages for 15 minutes at a time without realising. Any-hoo, just followed this one over a few hours or so, lots of breaks from chronic fatigue, but improving rapidly. Haven't drawn in years and missed the basics at school (they just didn't teach it) so LOVING this! Thanks for the masterclass for FREE, who knew?!?

My first how to draw book was "How to draw the Marvel way" written by Stan Lee and illustrated by John Buscema. I bet you Jim Lee read that too as a kid. Even with all these youtube vids, just get a copy of that if you love comics and want to draw. Fantastic addition to all these learning tools.
