That a '97 last-revision (or '98 or '99). 97's went to clear turn signals in the rear (the very upper part), and '97 first year of these deeper 6-hole wheels. I have a '97 w140, this exact color, and it's called "Black Opal". It looks different in different light. Bright light like these shop lights, or bright mid-day, looks dark blue, some evenings, like when the sunset is a red glow on everything, it lloks green, then evenings into dark, ppl swear it's black. And of short wheelbase/long wheelbase, this IS stretched longer than the long wheelbase. Easiest tell is the interior rear door panel. SWB, the rear door speaker is crammed/rounds under the ashtray. LWB, the speaker is like a clear inch or so forward of the rear ashtray, w/space between. This one, the rear door speaker is wayyyyy forward of the ashtray. Looks like 6 more inches in there, between the door ashtray and speaker. Baller. W140, will always be King of the S-class...still built to a no-cost constraint like what Benz always was...built to last a lifetime. Everything after w140 was cost cutter due to the Lexus LS400 in '90 eating Benz lunch...they had to then design and build to a price point to compete better w/Lexus. So after w140 became the "cost-cutter" era of Mercedes.
