Lenovo Ideapad 5 Pro and Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro are two of the most interesting Windows laptops on the market right now. I've been using them both a lot lately and this is my hands on comparison of the two.
I bought the Yoga Slim 7i Pro i5 for 1200 euros and the Ideapad 5 Pro 5800u for 900 euros - quite a difference in price.

Hi Jonas, thanks a lot for your detailed reviews which help to navigate the Lenovo jungle with so many similar models. One important point that appears to be missing in your comparison is the specs and speed of the ports. I was leaning towards the Ideapad 5 Pro but changed my mind because it only supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbit/s) which is a deal breaker for my use case with external SSD. However the Yoga Slim 7 Pro seems to offer the Gen 2 speed (10 Gbit/s) at least on one of the USB C ports. In addition the HDMI on the Ideapad is only 1.4 which is another deal breaker if you want to use a 4K monitor.

Thanks for your review! How is the keyboard when you compare it to the Matebook 14 you had before? I really love Huawei's keyboard and I'm not sure if the Lenovo can compete with it. Also: did you hear the fan noise while web browsing and watching youtube videos in any of those Laptops? (Huawei vs Lenovo)

Great comparison, Thanks. I suggest you to use better light to shoot videos of devices. Some scene are very dark and I can't see details like when you show the right side of the notebooks.

Thank you for the input! I have a bunch of lights in the office but right now for me it's very much about time management. I work full time + and then try to make videos on top of that... So any addition takes extra time and make the threshold higher to publish a video. But I def hear you!

Thanks for a great video!!! After watching this I got Ideapad 5 Pro few days ago and totally happy about it. I have a little question Are your unit screen is on a warmer side because mine is and it is a little annoying when am using it with my Dell monitor especially the white color. So I quite curious if this is normal?

Thank you on a great review on the Yoga slim 7 and Ideapad Slim 5i. I was looking at both and trying to choose which one. I ended up purchasing Yoga Slim 7i. I found the i7 processes on the Yoga Slim 7i is more updated (released q1 2021) vs the Ideapad (2020). Yoga has a faster speed clock than the Ideapad.

Hey, Thanks for thw video. I have to choose between yoga 7 and ideapad pro5 Both are ryzen 7 5800u in my country. Everything is same except wifi 6 in yoga and wifi 5 in ideapad with 2 hrs of battery difference. I'm really cinfused which one to go for. Touch is not that necessary for me. I wonder which one is bettet engineered

Thank you!! Ah, no I got rid of both the Ideapad and the Slim 7i, so that will be hard. :( But I think you should go ideapad if you don't need battery life. Then you go slim 7 since the battery life is incredible! :)

This was a tough one, I would go with the cheaper one i5 pro with all the ports, I can live without thunderbolt. You can save money by getting the 7 slim pro with the i5 core processor. The i7 processor is an arm and a leg.

Jonas, great reviews and videos from your side. I had the Yoga slim 7 pro 14" for a few days but I returned it and got instead the Ideapad 5 Pro 14" which has beter CPU, screen with 90hz and much better selection of ports (HDMI and TWO USB A and C). But I have to say that the battery life is quite mediocre on both of them, with normal usage (70% brightness, office, internet and some youtube videos) I get around 4 to 5 hours max. But I have a question to you and everybody else, do you know why my AMD radeon software says my DDR4 RAM allocated for GPU is running only at 1333 MHz? The RAM should be running at 3200 MHz and not 1333 MHz. I tried to look into BIOS but did not find anywhere any DOCP or XMP settings. Thanks all for your sugestions.

I don't know about the ram speed in this case but they often show half in apps. When it's not taking dual channel into account.

Yes you are right about that. The battery in the Yoga Slim 7 Pro is pretty poor. The Ideapad 5 pro has better battery life. See my reviews of them if you want more :)

If they have the same CPU they have the same performance. If you're gonna edit you're probably importing footage and then the Ideapad is nicer with it's port selection :)

I've had the slim 7i pro for a few weeks now and it has a very severe issue: the sleep mode does not work, and lenovo isn't helpful in addressing this problem. The last BIOS update was in July and it did not fix this problem. Beware, if you want immediate start and sleep by flipping the lid open/closed, look elsewhere unless you don't mind using hibernate mode (which is much slower).

I wish you did a stress test like Cinebench to see the max temperatures. In my choice, I have to choose Lenovo Ideapad 5 16 inch vs. Yoga Slim 7i Pro 14 both gen 9. It's so hard to choose. Both cost about the same...

What I understand from Lenovo the ideapad 5 pro 16" only have 1 USB c 3.2 full function, the other one is just power. But maybe 14" have 2 x full function.

Totally not. If that's the intel option you just get the amd instead. I would never get 10th gen intel.

Not great. Displays really suck a lot of battery. However a bit better in the Ideapad 5 pro.

I need somebody to tell me "just buy this or that laptop." I have a Yoga 710 for years now but I dropped it, so I want a new one, but I have no idea which one to buy. I'm already kinda tired of researching because I have no deep interest in, and just limited knowledge about the technical stuff. There are so many different models, my brain cannot........ A lot of those Yoga's have only one USB port, and no cardreader, so I need to get an external cardreader, that's OK, but I also have an external USB HD, and USB mouse adaptor. So I need to upgrade all those to USB-C or what? I want a good 14" touchscreen and an intergrated cardreader. I watch video's, play music, record music sometimes, other than that just casual use, no gaming. I like my Yoga 710, I want something similar.

Yes, but a little bit less premium bezels on the regular yoga. I have a ton of videos on it :)

Just bought my Lenovo ideapad 5 pro Ryzen 7. I Just needed to say that my screen bezel is tight and nice and makes no noise. So you must just have been unlucky with your machine. If it makes you irritated I would change it in and get a new machine.

Interesting! Mine isn't rattling at all, but my Yoga Slim 7 Pro does. But I love it regardless. I learned to live with the rattle :P

Try to bending the laptop by the palm rests downwards slightly. Seems to be a common issue but my rattle went away and comes back sometimes but it works for me.

The webcam quality is terrible in IdeaPad 5 Pro and Yoga 7 Pro! My IdeaPad 5i 15 has 720 p, but has much more clearer image!

Why don't you tell viewers that the power button on the entire Yoga Slim 7 pro series on the side of the case is useless? You cannot turn on the laptop if the screen is closed. This is a huge disappointment and a deception that Lenovo has not corrected for a year now.

I've never had any kind of problem with it. As soon as you plug something into a port it wakes from sleep. Don't even know what i would need the button for.
