Most bass singers are in the 2s. Low low low basses are in 1s. O's are just insane. .....B0 is the 2nd note from the bottom of the piano

And then you think about the fact that a piano encompasses 7 octaves, and Geoff's voice span's 5 of them... It still blows my mind when I visualize it on a piano keyboard.

Geoff is a HUGE fan of Thurl Ravenscroft, the original vocalist for "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." (Everyone else has mentioned that VoicePlay covered that one.) *However* I'm going to mention *my* favorite Thurl Ravenscroft cover that Geoff has done: "The Headless Horseman."

Every Geoff Castellucci video with more than 1 Geoff, ALL the voices and Sounds are from Goeff. And I just learned this a few years ago. The notes start at C and end with B. C,D,E,F,G,A,B. That is 1 Octave. So a C1 is Lower than an A1. Again, I just learned that a few years ago. Just trying to spread some info to you like it was spread to me. Great Post.

My favorite thing about this piece is that those three notes are all the same pitch. He sang them with three different techniques. Just amazing. I See Fire is even more amazing. I wasn't familiar with either of them, didn't matter. I am enjoying your Geoff giggles so much, can't wait for the next one! And Voiceplay drops their new one on Friday June 16. Be prepared! Voiceplay did Grinch, you will love it! They did the Chipmunk Song last Christmas which I HATE, but I love Voiceplay's version!!

the very first drop was a G1 subharmonic note. the second big one was a G1 chest note. the very last note was a G1 breathy chest note. the exact same note, just using different techniques. Geoff has done the Grinch song with VoicePlay, and it's really good! I definitely recommend that one. You will also get to hear how amazing of a voice actor Eli is in that one, as he is the one voicing the grinch character that is being played by an unknown (secret) grinch actor.

For some more of the 'Geoff's', I would suggest 'Sixteen Tons', 'Big Bad John' - his lowest recorded note (so far!) is a B0 in sub-harmonics, he hit this the first time in VP's cover of the 'Halo' theme music - love to see what you guys make of that, only a handul of words are 'spoken', as the track is an instrumental..!! 😊

IN the follow up to this, I See Fire, from The Desolation of Smaug he gives each of his dwarves a solo spot so you get to hear all his range better. And it's out now. Here they are mostly in harmony. That note, by the way isn't the lowest he can go, but that's pretty low. He can go down to a B0 which I think is the third white note on a piano. The note below bottom C. And he can go up to A5 I believe. I believe that Geoff makes any song better. His arrangements are beautiful and his editing skills are just great. VoicePlay have done the Grinch.

That B0 you mentioned for Geoff can be heard in “Valhalla Calling” Geoff hits it several times, with an especially long hold early on in the song. I know you all already reacted to it but you might want to go back to it personally to hear the B0.

FYI: The lowest note a piano has is A0. So a piano can only go one note lower than Geoff. Also: He can get up in a high tenor falsetto super nice. You don’t hear his upper range limits here. The new one with the dwarves is out. It’s I See Fire from The Hobbit. Most of his other solo pieces go higher than this. Yes, Layne, Eli, and Tony all help him behind the scenes in his solo stuff. He hires a pro for fancy make up. It’s not the season for it yet, but his version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman is a surprising jam. For range, watch his vid for Ain’t No Sunshine. He’ll be high up and just casually bounce down like four octaves then right back up again. VoicePlay did a take on the Grinch song, yes, Geoff had the lead. 😊 As to how to make it better…I vote for more. Y’all are fun. 😁

I have yet to see a bad video by Geoff solo or Voiceplay in all the years (I'd say 5, shortly after J. None joined them) I've been watching them. Of course, I like some more (because that's just the way it is with songs), like, some are a 9/10, the others 8-8.5/0, and a few 20/10s thrown in too! Also, a couple (out of 5 years worth), mind you, I'd give a 7/10 (but watching reactions to them seems to help raise their score a bit). But these guys aren't just making music, they're creating art, and they make me just extremally happy! I listen to them every night, it's part of my pre-bed routine.

Small correction, most basses don't touch the B1 (note before C2), so considering phonating the first oktave is already a rare thing in irself. An average baritone bottoms out at a F,G or A2, lower tenosrs often bottom oit at C3 or B2, so he had a 2 oktave jump there. To make everything sound a bit nicer, everybody can reach into the first oltave with a growl (what he's using), add an equaliser and a growl sounds surprisingly decent, here's the catch tho. Sustaining a note with a growl is hella difficult, and for most people the first time they growl ot's hella uncomfty. So people might say, oh yeah, I can do it to with a growl, but the truth is, from hitting something, to sustaining something, it's a world of a difference. And that growl is sustained in pitch and in quality (I actually growl for fun since a year, and I still struggle sustaining both)

This is an amazing rendition by Geoff. The VoicePlay version of the Grinch is very good too but if you love the bass voice, you them need to follow that one up with yet another glorious bass, Elliott Robinson. He did a very good continuation video; The Grinch Rebuttal Not So Mean. The Wellerman also did Misty Mountain. 14 basses at once. Also very enjoyably.

All the standout lows in this were E1s, just in different techniques. The last one does seem lower but because it’s in breathy chest voice rather than subs, it has more resonance and rumble. E1s are almost a comfy low note for Geoff nowadays, both in chest and in subs. Also this cover barely even scratches the surface of Geoff’s tenor range 😂
