Excellent set up vid. I got this earlier this year and have been loving it. Agree, the tilt to the right takes some getting used to and could probably be improved upon. I just got used to it and don't really notice it now. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

You should not have to make modificaitons but until your warranty expires, you could put on a pipe extension. Start with the longest leg and make it longer on the right side. That should help.

MRo at least my Wahoo Kickr Core comes with legs which are not centered. When you follow the stickers the right side where you are will have the shorter side which I would say is indeed not what you want, so I rotated them having the longer side on the right where the cassette is. This brings the stickers on the bottom so I don’t see them anymore but I think it does give more stability having a bit more centimeters, I would say 2cm more on both legs. I think Wahoo is just putting the stickers on incorrectly!?

The slight left-right sway of the freewheel & resistance unit as you peddled seemed a bit concerning, in terms of both ride feel and stability and long-term fatigue on the metal and joints. Since this is a 5 year old video, have those proven to be issues at all, and was your use of two pads, the top one of which appeared to be kind of squishy, the main cause of this sway, and not the Core? I just ordered one and am patiently awaiting its arrival so I'm just curious. Overall how have you liked your Core and do you still have it or have you switched to something else?

Regarding stability, at least my Wahoo Kickr Core comes with legs which are not centered, by 2cm. Wow, I think you are onto something! I just checked mine and indeed, the rear (narrower) leg was as you say, 2cm longer on the "wrong" (left) side, although the front (wider leg) was correct - 2cm longer on the "correct" (right) side. I think somebody at the factory (label installer, and quality control) is not paying attention!

@@davidrowe8747 oh interesting for me it was both. Looks more like they don’t pay well attention to on which side they put the stickers on, or just aren’t even aware of it🤔😉 But I understand you also like it much better this way😎 probably also not everybody will notice much difference.

Can you do a video of the kickr core with a MTB. No one has reviews of smart trainers with mountain bikes. Not all of us have a second bike ( road bike ) to put on trainer. Is it comfortable for MTB. Would you need to lock out your suspension

It would be fine for your MTB. To work on pedal stroke you may want to lock out your suspension. However, keeping it unlocked may also help you with replicating how it feels in real life.

Hi, is it possible to give some update for 2021, is it stil worth buying, were there any software updates that fixed some of your issues, improvements,...? Do you think they will release a new kickr core? It’s because I can buy on in a store for 659 euro’s. Is this a fair price or should I wait. Excellent set-up video - the most thorough I have seen for the Kickr Core. When you were pedalling out of the seat, there seemed to be a lot of flex in the trainer e.g., at 8:50) - was that just the legs sinking into the soft mat, or is there actually some flex? The legs didn't look to be moving, so it seems like the main body of the trainer actually flexes, which isn't very reassuring.

It was just the mat - it’s a very solid trainer in construction. The only issue I had was the slight imbalance due to the leg offset but that’s only noticeable out of the saddle on really hard sprints. Thanks!

Nice video, really well explained to viewers. Would you recommend a smart trainer for high mileage bike usage? I struggle to make time to ride outdoors and indoor is better for time efficiency.

Absolutely. You can get a more dense workout indoors since you’re generally not coasting or going downhill.

Hey Des, Kind of a difficult question to answer because it looks like you're on a concrete slab floor, but have you noticed any low frequency vibrations from the freewheel? Curious what the device is like for people in smaller accommodations. For example, as you mention the Elite Direto isn't "loud" per say, but I find it definitely produces very transmissible vibrations that would be inappropriate for an apartment setup.

You’re absolutely correct when it comes to the vibration from the Direto. The Core is very minimal. I’ll take it up to my bedroom this weekend and see how it feels/sounds.

I had the Kickr Core for 2 weeks and returned it due to the vibration. Somehow reviewers always seem to have concrete floors so they never notice how poor the Kickr Core is. I swapped to the Neo 2 which has WAY less vibration. It's not silent either on a wooden floor but doesn't vibrate so much that your neighbors have issues. Also Neo 2 power agrees with the Vector 3 (and other sources) whereas Kickr Core was 30 Watts off. Look at the Facebook community groups for each before making a decision, you'll be surprised at the difference in the comments between them.

Thank you for the video Des! One question, have you found the tipping to be a big issue? My main concern is stability when I'm really pushing the power. Would it be worth the extra $300 for the kickr if my main concern is stability?

Hi, I have a question. Why zwift has a big lag in reporting the speed. Most of the time I am going to 25-28mph and it says 4mph. Is there a way I can fix it? thank you

I ordered a shimano cassette for mine and there was a spacer on the backside of the large cog, is that needed?

Depends on the cassette body. Sometimes needed to ensure it can be tightened properly.

It seems like unless you have a cassette lying around getting this plus a cassette could push you close to the Kickr price-wise, so I wonder how relevant this product is? Maybe I’m missing something here.

A cassette can be had for less than $60 depending of course on your setup. A nice cassette maybe around $100 (unless you are talking about SRAM Eagle or something). Plus, there are plenty of barely used cassettes on marketplaces like Craig List (should be about half of new, most with little to no wear).

Also, no cadence sensor is included with the Core. When you consider the price difference and the fact that ideally you need a.cassette and want the cadence sensor.....then factor in the better stability with adjustable height. At the end of the day when you amortized the price difference over the number of years that you use it the extra money starts to make a lot of sense.

I bought a kickr Core recently and its great apart from one thing. I find the bike leans slightly to the right and sometimes if im out of the saddle i need to compensate by turning the front wheel a little right, does anyone else experience this?

That may depend on the device that you're using to record the data. For instance, with a Polar device it lumps all the available data from one device into one (like speed, power, cadence from an indoor trainer) but with others you can separate that out.

I'm shopping for my first ever direct drive trainer, and trying to decide between the Direto, Kickr Core, and Drivo1 - as all are now priced in the same price range I'm looking for. Thanks Alvin. I'm wrapping up the Direto long-term review this weekend. Should be out early next week. I would lean towards the Core for the most part - great accuracy, very silent, however, in general about $100 more than the other two depending on where you are shopping. But as you saw from this video, the Core is not centered which is kind of odd. The Direto is an extremely stable trainer and with it's wide legs and you can really lay down some power without worrying about tipping on either side.

I'd say that the Kickr Core is more silent than the Direto XR but the Direto XR is very quiet. Plus, I like the ride feel much better on the Direto X/XR.

@@DesFit Dear Desfit. As always great reviews! I was wondering, what do you think the difference in road-feel could be attributed to? Flywheel size between core and directo XR is the same. I noticed you also mentioned before that you like the ride feel of the directo XR better than the Kickr V5 (which has a even heavier flywheel!) and also the taxc neo. Is something else, then the flywheel, responsible for the roadfeel? All the best Malte

Hi, thanks for the video! If the choice is between elite direto xr (750 euro) or wahoo kickr core (799 euro) What do you recommend? As far as I understand that it is only in the output values. What about the quality and time of service?

Elite and Wahoo seem to both have good support and service. I tend to like the Direto XR because of its ride feel and it will be a bit more stable than the Core. The Core may be just a smidge quieter but both are near silent. Thanks!

Thanks! The Vivoactive 3 Music is a good option. Now that Spotify has been released for the Forerunner 645 Music and fenix 5, I would expect to see that functionality sometime in the future. Not sure exactly when, however, but I would guess within a few months.

Does the flex cause any concern? I feel like half a degree tilted to the right when riding and based on your video, seems like you are too. Other than that and a dropout every now and then, I’ve enjoyed the Core. Upon further inspection, the legs aren’t parallel either. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ich kotz grad voll ab, jede dritte Fahrt muss ich abbrechen weil der scheiss kickr core ständig den ERG modus verliert und sich neu verbinden muss. Wenn er funktionieren würde wäre ja schön aber da war der alte Tacx Flow ohne smart doch irgendwie besser. Ich will den grad irgendwie zurück schicken aber dann bekomm ich warscheinlich erst nen neuen wenn der Winter rum ist..... echt voll zum kotzen.
