On our way home last weekend, I heard a strange sound. We thought the worst. Pulled over 1/2 home into a parking lot. We found out that my purse had been placed on top of a leaf blower in the back seat and it switched on. When we found the noise , we just laughed and was so thankful it was not a problem.

If ever you need a place to stop on I-40, between Nashville and Knoxville, we'd love to have you at the Crossville I-40 KOA! My family of 5 was able to live in our RV for 18 months while we purchased the KOA and moved across country, ONLY because of your help :). No joke - we owe you a HUGE thank you! (we live in a small house now... we're not THAT crazy) but minimalism has changed our lives for the better! Thank you!

It was a little chaotic lol but labs are so wonderful and they will definitely bless the families in their new forever homes :-)

Ahh! Tom actually scanning on the fly while driving (didn't even know that could be done), hauling a loaded camper, on a 3 laner hwy, in the lovely presence of the entire family, is just so Tom! His superhero status just went up even higher. Sorry Dawn, but it's just dang impressive for us regular folk that didn't grow up with superhero farm dads.

I love the smokey mountains, I had to drive through them to and from college. Fun story, one time when I was driving home for Christmas break, I took a wrong turn and ended up on hairpin turns in the mountains in the dark with fog so thick I couldn't see the end of the hood, I had to look out the side window to watch the yellow line so I could stay on the road. And fun bonus, I had a severe sinus infection and was feeling really lightheaded and dizzy the whole time. It was the most terrifying drive in my life, but we survived and now it's a fun story to tell.

Last Saturday I happened to be south of Indianapolis and came upon two campers blocking an off ramp on I-74. The one in the front was broke down. I remembered you were planning to travel to Tennessee. After shopping I saw the two trucks/campers in a parking lot with one having been towed. I knew it was a long shot knowing you would most likely be on I-65 but I still did a drive by to see if anyone looked familiar 😂

We just rented one of these in Black hills SD it was awesome not crowded and a ton of trails with different levels of intensity. There was a main trail that was smooth but all these off shoots where you could play and have some fun in the mud. The rental company gave us a tablet with the map on it and it tracked us. It was super fun!

We bought a side by side 5 years ago and it has been the best purchase we’ve ever made. It’s been so fun for our family! We load it up with our camping gear and we can get way back in the mountains away from any people. We’ve used it to haul firewood and get to the neatest hiking/fishing trails.

Your family is just so easy to love! You are good people and I enjoy seeing all of the great experiences you are creating with your family! It has been so much fun to watch our in-laws enjoy their dog having puppies. They spend most of their down time just watching them. They each have different personalities. It is also neat to see the momma dog instinctively knows how to train her babies. She starts working with the smartest, most outgoing puppy and then works down the line. Finally, she works with the most timid puppy, teaching it to play, cuddle, and interact with the others, etc.

BIG TIP HERE: (for extra room) Get a Clam screen room tent or something similar. They are easy to set up! The kids could do it once you show them. The 6 paneled ones are what I recommend. We bought a large Coleman screen room over 10 years ago and have used it every time we went camping. It’s getting a bit tired. We even had our screen room before we had our pop up. We always set it up over the picnic table. We use it for the outside cook area. However, it is also great for when you all want to still be outside but out of the elements and bugs ☀️ 🌧 🪰 🦟 to play games, read, journal, arts and crafts, etc. BONUS TIP: Make sure it is tied down securely. One time we went hiking and didn’t have it secure because there was no wind when we left. When we came back it looked set up different than when we left. Apparently it became a ginormous tubbleweed other campers were kind enough to wrangle it back to our site for us. 😳 🙈 BONUS BONUS TIP 🙃: Aldis comes out with a knock off (in the spring I think.) However, they go super fast!!! Tell Tom it adds usable living space that is easy to pull ⛽️ and maintain. 😉👍

Oh my goodness, I don’t know if the part where you were stuck going under 10mph was when you were in cades cove, but it reminded me of something similar that happened to me there! Back in 2015 my oldest was just a couple of months old and my husband and I were staying with my sweet in-laws at a cabin about an hour away from Cades Cove. They had gone there and ridden bikes and said how awesome it was (& they’ve gone several times since that trip), but the weekend we were there was Columbus Day weekend. It was SO packed and almost the entire time we spent in Cades Cove was in bumper to bumper standstill traffic just to drive the large circle and get back out. I mean, it was just hours of slowly driving. Our baby pooped twice on this tedious journey and I had to change him on my lap in the backseat 🤣 We need to go back again sometime when it’s not a holiday weekend or peak time bc it really was beautiful, and I’m sure it if it wasn’t crowded it would be a gorgeous place to explore. But all my husband and I can think of when we hear about Cades Cove now is the time we drove in a circle for like 5 hours with an unhappy newborn… for no reason 😂🤣

Back in November we saw six cubs and two mama bears. It was amazing. The cubs were climbing a tree like monkeys! My kids had the most amazing experience

Glad your family was introduced to the Smoky Mts. But seriously, there IS so much more to do that’s fun, and free too! We live near Baton Rouge and for 25 years we’ve gone to the mts once or twice a year. We don’t spend $ on shows or fancy meals. Google free things to do and you’ll get a huge list. The fall is our favorite time, then spring, then Christmas. There’s a lovely campground IN the national park. Try to get in it next time. Go up to Clingman’s Dome for sunrise or sunset. Halloween in Gatlinburg is so fun! After 25 years we still have a list of things to do that we can’t wait to get there for. Your post has made me smile and get excited for our trip in October!

I love the Smokies. I have family about 500 miles south of where I live and the Smokies are in the middle. Have spent a lot of time in those sweet mountains.

It was so nice to see this post and your visit to our beautiful mountains. I have lived in Sevier County of East Tennessee all my life. Our County borders the mountains. I hope you enjoyed your trip to our area.

I found Peter Walsh’s “Let it Go” on Audible this past Wednesday night. Wish I’d had the info a year ago when we suddenly had to empty and sell our late mother’s home! I didn’t know you then, nor Cas or Dana. Since December 2021, I’ve learned SO Much from you, but back then, my ramrod niece’s orders of “Yes or No, there is no Maybe” was painful to this Chronic over-thinker! And I was the Executor! Highly recommend this book, especially for those who have any amount of lead time. Thinking about switching from Audible to Blinkist….

Welcome to our neck of the woods! 😁 Next time you should come a little more northeast and check out the mountains there and then head over to NC (Boone/Blowing Rock) to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. We think it's one of the prettiest parts of the US. 😁 Also, I think another commenter mentioned it, but coming in the "off season" after Labor Day isn't off season for us... that's when our colors really shine and the traffic gets crazy! But the fall colors and the mountains and the weather are all incredible!

I love the GSMNP and especially cades cove!!! I live in Knoxville Tennessee so this is very close to me. One time while hiking I came across a mama bear and two cubs. What a great adventure!!! Love your channel. Currently working on the gentle art of death cleaning because of cancer. While my cancer is treatable, it’s incurable. I expect to be around for a while but you just never know. God bless you and your family!!! 💙💙💙
