Wakanda and Namor’s Atlantis Complicated History Explained

I have to imagine that thousands of years of war started when Namor wouldn’t share his wing shoe things. Atlantis and Wakanda, the modern day warring families who represent one of the greatest tumultuous relationships in all of Marvel comics. They’ve had a very long history of competition, and are led by two of the strongest leaders in the pages of the comic books. T’Challa on one side, Namor the Sub Mariner on the other. Two of the most advanced civilizations on the planet Earth constantly at odds with each other makes for some great content, and the MCU is about to bring this confrontation to the forefront, likely with its own MCU twist. So what is this complicated history behind this even more complicated relationship? Let’s find out right now.
Both Wakanda and Atlantis are ancient civilizations. They have extremely old roots that go back far beyond their conflict of origin. So let's set the scene, just what are these ancient origins of these two incredibly advanced civilizations. Each of these incredibly Advanced kingdoms were ruled by great people, who would eventually go on to become superheroes in Protectors of Earth, not just their own countries. However, they tend to be a little, what's the word? Stubborn? Yeah I think that's safe to say. Truth be told, I think we're in for the next great rivalry of the MCU and one that will be unlike any we have seen before. Which nation do you think will come out on top when the two go to war in Black Panther Wakanda Forever? Namor's always been one of my main dudes since I was 16-17 (I'm 49 now btw). He was a part of Cap's Invaders team during WWII, a member of the Illuminati, a (begrudgingly) on again, off again Avenger & an X-Men member. He's a mutant w/ Superhuman strength lifting 90 tons on land and well over 100 tons underwater, Flight, he's bulletproof, he's also one 4 or 5 guys who've one-shotted the Hulk, but then they want me to believe that he could be stabbed in the chest by a Vibranium dagger 🗡? Really bro? Nah, I call bullshit. They completely missed me w/that. I'm not buying that at 100% off for free! Dude is a straight beast bro

@@916009 Trust me bro, that dude Namor? He's a serious problem! He's one of 3-4 powerhouses who've KO'd the Hulk w/1 shot but the only one to do it multiple times. He's beasted SHE-Hulk, dragged Red Hulk underwater then punched him a few miles in the air until he landed miles away on land. He pimp scored the Thing just for TALKING greasy, & thinking he was tough. I mean he is, but on his BEST day, he does not want that smoke. If I were picking a super team? Oh, yeah, He's on my squad. But my team would be so OP they'd be broken! Oh my team would be so broken, it wouldn't even be fair. Namor was always one of the most enigmatically cool anti-heroes in comics and I hate to think they have made him some caricature. He is the last character who should get punked by a movie portrayal. Yeah, but his powers don't fade quickly outta water. Once he was outta water for so long (7 years) that he became amnesiac It wasn't until Human Torch(Johnny Storm, not Hammond) was flying overhead immediately recognized him, but found him homeless And wandering the streets of New York City. He flew him over the Hudson(River) and stopped him in. The sec he submerged, he was restored to full strength. He's the strongest Atlantean, PERIOD. I know that he's always gotta watch his back because Attuma's always gunning for the throne, and yes in terms of raw physical strength & power Attuma isn't as strong as Tigershark(75 tons underwater, 60 tons) on land. All Atlantean strength the longer they're outta water, but they aren't to be slept on because even at their weakest, they're stronger than any human

I'm so excited to see the wakanda and Atlantis war on the big screen. Also u know what would be awesome? If they didn't kill Namor off by the end of the film and because Namor is actually an anti hero, they keep him alive and in the future of the MCU Namor fight alongside the avengers in the fight against Kang and the big threats to come. I mean let's face it they probably will kill him off but it they shouldn't! They should have him be a hero too. That would be much more of a compelling thing to do

They aren't killing him off and if so, it wouldn't be until after the Fantastic Four. Plus Namor isn't the real villain in this movie, it's his 2nd in command just like the comics.

Chadwick’s brother even argued that Chadwick himself wouldn’t have wanted the character to die with him but instead passed to someone else. Just watched Wakanda forever and it’s sadly not the same without T’Challa.

The power levels are really comparable, Namor can lift like 70 tons, if I read black ⚫️ panther correctly, he can lift max peak human 800 lbs. Although I will admit the MCU is never Really accurate in those respects , and the comics are the same. It depends on whut plot they are pushing.

The ending fight scene didn’t make sense because The Black Panther uses vibranium in a micro weave mesh uniform that robs incoming objects of their momentum. SHe also cannot be stabbed in the comics

This is not the Namor from the comics.There is no Atlantis in the movie. I'm guessing this is Disney's way to get around the Universal movie rights. Basically it's a new character. They can't even say Namor the way we know it.

One of the many reasons I’m iffy about wakanda forever. The same reason why the mandarin became a cool side villain to be forgetten. They both didn’t have their arch rivals even in mentioning. I’m sure the rest of the cast will do a great job but I feel like killing off black panther itself didn’t do either the character or the actor justice. Chadwick wasn’t selfish and the character of black panther didn’t get a chance to grow into a powerhouse before being killed. His only outting made him feel like an impulsive prince who only brought robbers to his kingdom by making it public. His plans weren’t highlighted or given room to grow out of the recovery phase to make him seem like a competent ruler in the long run. Plus without many accomplishments as king, dudes limited accomplishments can also lead to a bastardization of history like “the sister had to deal with the aftermath of her crazed brothers childish decisions” just saying.

@@markjohnson9485 totally agree. Atlantis is a Mediterranean myth from Greece. Namors heritage is Atlantean. He uses the Greek God Neptunes Trident. Diversity is good look at Jason Momoa playing Aquaman he is Samoan. But Jason played Aquaman who was from Atlantis. That's like saying Peter Parker Spiderman is from Texas. Peter being from Queens New York is a important part of his character make up. Ryan Coogler and Kevin Feige screwed the pooch on this one on purpose.

@@shadowmonk7465 the greeks never called themselves greek. Greeks were more so a mix of people, or plebeians/helots. Manethos (a Egyptian priest around 3rd cent. BC) tells the story about Atlantis. Pelasgians were a sea people that built the civilizations in greece. Etruscans were also a sea people and the founders of Rome.

I hope this actor is really good, because he looks nothing like Namor. Namor has an extreme widows peak, very sharp, bony facial features, and a very muscular swimmers body. The look is all wrong. Plus, he doesn't have a nose piercing. Also, I heard they're not calling his home Atlantis because of Aquaman! Hopefully, I'll see the film and be convinced.

Namor was created shortly after Superman and Batman during the Great Depression and slightly before World War II or at least the US involvement in it.

MARVEL was still called Timely Comics and DC was still called National Comics back then.Namor`s also the first mutant in MARVEL publishing history,three whole decades before the X-Men(Even though Apocalypse,Selene and the Hellfire Club were later revealed to be older chronologically) and Magneto,Wolverine,Sabretooth and Xavier were growing up at the same time in other parts of the world.

Idk the slightest thing about comics but this taught me a lot. I am Hispanic and would be happy for this guy and the whole story but I can’t because it is nothing like the comic’s story described here. The look/casting of the actor is all wrong starting from the fact that Namor is a being who lives in the deeps of the ocean and swims. He should be fit and lean and pale, hairless with fishlike features because that is what living in the dark and deep parts of the ocean would’ve done to him. Biology/evolution simply dictates that Namor should look nothing like Tenoch Huerta. Somebody of Asian features would’ve made more sense.

I'm hispanic too and I can absolutely see where you're coming from. I didn't know anything about the Namor from the comics, and now I'm looking at the movie much differently. I also thought the plot itself was lacking and it really felt like they were just trying to appear inclusive in the race department. It's like L after L considering this Marvel phase has a lot of toxic feminist undertones too (btw I say that as a chick who absolutely hates She Hulk. I miss characters like Black Widow 😭)

Disagree, I LOVE the connection with ancient meso America and he’s a good actor for the role. His power is mystical, not muscle based. His people look different as they adapted to the ocean life but he’s more of a godlike person. No need for a swimmers body, bro. Swimmers bodies are not all that movies anyway. Aquaman is way too buff as well, but it works because the actor is a good fit.

This is just disappointing. There was no reason to kill him off over than to prop up yet again, black women over black men to try and further humiliate. The women were already in the first movie, but they just had to make the men bow at the end. Now they just completely took over.

namor is the prince of atlantis and not a mayan legend....why did they not respect the original namor, ,,,this name in "wakanda forever" appears to be a soft namor because he is a mutant, while the original namor is somewhat a demigod

Seriously...He looks absolutely RIDICULOUS and those pointy ears look even more ridiculous on that guy... It would have been one thing to find the right actor for the role, a tall slender muscular guy with "aquatic" features and then the pointy ears would have looked perfect... But no, they had to ruin everything by taking this short chubby guy ( whom I have nothing against ) and tell us THIS is Namor... My ass...Hell, if I had known I would have sent Marvel my picture... I look more like Namor than this guy who looks like a short Colombian drug lord...
