"You" (as in the person who has your name, your history, etc) is not actually You; You are the background operating system that can "run" any personality. You just really got hooked on being that character, believing your thoughts and evaluating life constantly. But: - there is no need for evaluation - there is no need to believe your thoughts That's why when you practice zazen or meditation or inquiry you can get closer to the "True You", the awareness behind. And I don't want to muddle the water by saying something like "not even the awareness exists", because that would just confuse you at that point. But that's what he means by there is no separation. Maybe between [your name here] and the rest of the world there is, but not between You, the aware one, and the rest of the awareness.

Respectfully, I disagree. Your philosophy is rooted in the Eastern tradition that denies the existence of a "self" and therefore claims that suffering is simply a result of misunderstanding the illusion of existence, as such. I would posit a different solution to the problem of evil, which is the deeper root question of the question of suffering. Suffering is a result of the fact that we live in a broken world, full of broken people. Suffering is, without a Savior, utterly meaningless and hopeless. But with a Savior, who took on all of our nature and suffered as much as a human could, He made it possible for us to share with Him in the Divine life and divinized suffering. To the extent that we can use our own suffering to allow us to let go of our attachment to the world and draw closer to God, suffering can be a means of sanctifying grace... a furnace by which we are purified for life in the presence of the Divine. I pray that you will one day come to know that kind of grace.
