This is an off grid system powering a workshop through solar. This detached workshop uses 2-3kw of solar to power a 15kwh big battery and a 12k inverter.
You can check out the Big Battery and inverter here save 10%:

LOVE THIS! Going to get a system for myself for my tiny home. 6 x 400W solar panels and this system. 3.8 year Roi. Yes please.

Update: I just downloaded the free 12K manual from Big Battery. Outstanding manual! It shows exactly how to use and set up the Current Clamps (current transformers). I am now looking to see if they are included.

The manual for this inverter is fantastic probably the best i've seen. Yes, the clamps are included with the inverter. There are two of them 1 for each side of the main. They use an ethernet style plug.

Nice video review. The Ethos line looks quite impressive. The wires that are connected to the load terminals in the inverter looks a bit thin. What gauge wire are those? You may want to consider a larger gauge copper cable such as 4AWG. That inverter can sustain a 12KW AC output to the loads and those small cables will not safely handle that amount of current.

I know that's right. I got pushed into retirement a little ahead of plans. Got more junk going on now than I did working full time. Don't need anything else to keep up with! Retirement is sposed to be fun dangit! :)

Thanks Seth! My only concern is whether I can charge the battery with a dual fuel generator in the event I don't have enough battery coming in.. I am building my home & barn completely off grid, in a remote area of the Western NC Mountains. I don't want to pay for a power pole, however this winter has been rainy, snowy and cold. I would think there's got to be a way to power the battery up during the dark winter days without the "dirty" generator waves injuring the battery. Do I need a converter for the power into the battery, or are the uneven waves of generator power ok for the battery? I love this system but I KNOW I need a bigger load. I'm checking out the Web site now, and really appreciate you showing this system!

I have no Wi-Fi at my cottage but I could use a hotspot to communicate while I’m there. Is it possible to monitor the system if I’m not there?

At some point could your provide a link or exact description of the current clamps (Current Transformers) as I was unable to find them or get assistants from Big Battery about their existence (12K version)? A couple folks (you included) think they are available for the 6K version but I do not know if they come with the 6K or if is a "special order". Thanks again for your excellent "how to" KZfaqs followed by real world use and evaluatoin.

Why only 10ga wire and 30amp output?

Why have that inverter and a transfer switch? You could presumably connect the grid to the inverter, have the grid kick in if the battery drops below X percent and not have to worry. Unless I'm missing something?

You are 100% correct. The thing is I already had the sub panel and transfer switch installed before receiving this inverter and battery.

To many unsafe things to count, open PV wires, extension cord on the output that's not even close to the rated fused output.. just because you do this yourself it should at least be safe especially if you are going to show people on line how to do it . Just my humble opinion.

At only a 200% surge capacity, that Luxpower unit doesn't offer a high enough peak power capacity to power all of the inductive loads in my moderate sized home. Most inductive loads loads like microwave ovens, refrigerators, AC units and motorized load require at least 300% to 800% surge capacity just to start, so when this inverter is loaded down with typical resistive loads found in a home, lets say 10kW, there is not enough surge capacity left to even start an average sized inductive load. That's why I will only use a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger in my home. In addition, because this Chinese manufacturer removed the iron core, copper wound isolation transformer from their design, there is no galvanic isolation in this low cost inverter tech, All it would take is for the AC output monitoring circuitry to fail and one of the MOSFETs in the inverter's H-Bridge circuit to short to ground, and a high frequency inverters can send dangerous, high voltage, high amperage DC current straight to your AC appliances which can not only damage your appliances, but can also set your appliances on fire.

The Ethos battery is a terrible value when you consider you can get the EG4 PowerPro battery which is designed for that exact Luxpower 12K inverter you have there for $1800 less. The EG4 battery is only slightly less in capacity (14.3kWh) yet a TON smaller in physical size. Only reason you are using it is because you got it for free. Sell out KZfaqrs...so sad! KZfaq is so corrupt now days.

Awe now dude. People got their preferences and comfort zones they work in. If you wanna get down and dirty, Order yourself a stack of 304ah cells and put together your own battery packs. Easily build out 45kwh in 3 packs that will balance and talk Pylontech to the Luxpower or EG4 inverters no problem. And do it for about $5500 bucks. Sux the doors off any precanned battery pack you can buy anywhere. Few will go down that road tho. But it's okay dude.... really it is.
