I started working on Wall Street in 1975. It was the start of the big boom on Wall Street, all the brokerage houses were there, for 15 years. It was a wonderful place, now because the politics and technology Wall Street will never be the same.

The New York stock exchange was acquired in 2007 by the interContinental exchange that is located in Atlanta. Georgia. The irony of the Occupy Wall Street movement was that Wall Street was no longer there, which the protesters didn't understand. The trading floor only existed as the TV studio to ring the bell in the morning and evening and to give a place for the really old guys to stand around hoping that the electronic exchanges would break.

Mayor Koch understood that there are those who want services and those who could pay for services. By giving those who could pay a clean, safe city those who wanted got what they wanted. Koch laid out the blueprint and Rudy/Mike stuck to it. Now it’s out the window and we’re back to the NYC of my youth. And I saw the Wall Street types moving in to West Palm Beach as I was moving out. De Blasio was the main catalyst for people moving out of NYC. Progressive policies are not friendly to law abidding people. The crime, regulations, and lack of respect for taxpayers means people go where they're treated best. The taxes are ludicrously high and the quality of life is moving lower at a fast pace.

Go to FL is a short term win for companies. In the long term, insurance increase, climate change are coming. NY has been horrible for many years in my eyes. Ugly, dirty, smelly, crime ridden. I can see why companies are leaving.

The exchanges now are no more than a museum of the past. Most is done with electronic servers. Big players just want to be as close as possible to those severs because in the world of gigantic traders, nano seconds matter.

NYC is analogous to the US vs long-civilized Europe---minus the world wars. NYC has done well through the generations not necessarily because it's way better than the other international capital of finance, London, is, but for other reasons. It's actually counterintuitive that as many businesses & talented people through the decades (during the up/downs of the 1970s, 1980's etc) have always flocked there. But WWI & WWII affected Europe for decades & if today's NYC is hit by its own war (Woke War I) there may be some collateral damage.

The trading pits of old, with crowds of screaming guys in colorful jackets, were superseded by electronic trading. With modern network speeds, there's no longer any reason why the servers need to be in NYC at all. It's more secure to have servers in multiple locations anyway, to reduce the risk of localized disasters (whether natural or man-made). New York City is in the same situation as Chicago with their commodity exchanges. There's simply no justification for making employees commute into, or live in, these places that are no longer safe.

Suggest your video showing midtown is a bit misleading . Wall Street hasn't been Wall Street since 9/11. The migration is from other parts of the city and the larger tri state . We left 28 years ago for Greater Boston area. It isn't only Miami it's Nashville, Texas. States that have not grown diversified tax schmemas like NY are risking it all. NY ongoing failure to rein in spending and waste by just taxing the heck out of finance in all its forms is coming to a head and it's velocity is increasing but its not as new as your video suggests

I h ate NYC. Lived there for 7 years, but wall street ain't going nowhere. Some money managers left and will leave but if wall street will be gone then financial center won't be in the West anymore but in brics someplace.
