I live in Canada. We have winter. I have an insane amount of coats, including many classics I have collected (including some I have altered/retailored) over the past 40 years. I think that having at least one good classic-type coat -- not including the absolutely necessary weather-resistant cozy hooded puffer -- that is at least knee-length, if not midi, in a solid colour, any colour you love, adds so much to one's winter style. As for "curating" one's closet, agreed. But play in there. I find myself often spending an hour or two just mixing and matching pieces and coming up with great combos, or identifying the gaps in my wardrobe, or both. Finally, care for your clothes. Air out what you wore by hanging it up and leaving it on a hook outside your closet overnight. (You can find all sorts of great decorative "sticky" hooks online.) Fold or roll them properly. Don't use hangars that will poke through the shoulders of pieces, especially knits. Get a lint comb or shaver. A steamer. Spray your leather boots/bags/jackets with a good weatherproofing spray (especially important during wet winter months.) It's all very time-consuming, I know. But it will pay off.

I agree, I only have nude and black seamless undies now. Those fancy, colorful bras are pretty, but there’s very little they can be worn with.

Also, use laundry bags! I find they extend the life of my clothes, especially things with straps and fabrics that pill as I still have washer with a centerfuge. It also makes it easier to pull delicate things out part way into the drying cycle and to fold things like socks when they are each in their own bag.

My size rules are simple: A., always test the larger size to make sure that figure-hugging piece is comfy and collects goog type attention B., Always test the smaller size when the garment sort of looks a bit frumpy & loose or unintentionally oversized

I only wash my clothes if they get grime, spots or odors, or I sweat heavily in them. I also use the delicate cycle to reduce wear and tear and wrinkles, and air-dry everything. My clothes look good for a decade or more now. The dryer’s heat and friction wear clothes down fast and destroy any stretch, especially that from Elastane.

Such great tips Anna! If we have clothing in our closet that we don’t love, don’t fit, etc then get rid of them and slowly purchase what you love and will wear. It serves no purpose to keep what doesn’t work or make you feel good. Also the ironing! Nothing makes a nice outfit look worse than it being wrinkled or ill fitting 🤣

Your information is awsome. I have hung on to at least 12 pairs of jeans for 10 years or more and now all of them are back in style, bell, strait, flair, boot cut. Thank goodness I'm still the same size. I go through my closet once a year and could kick myself for getting rid of alot of clothes that are back now, lesson learned.

I hang outfits on hooks in a long hallway where i can see them from my bed room. I have enough room for 4 days. I then change out pieces until I like what i see. I move the next day's up after i dress. Its kinda fun. My hallway is my catwalk.

"Don't purchase clothing that would fit...if it was just a little shorter." Ha! I'm so short that I'd have to go to work naked if I followed this advice. Here's my rule: To purchase a garment, I must love it enough to alter it myself or pay a tailor. PROMPTLY. If I don't think I can alter it this week, I don't love it enough to buy it.

Thank you for he reminder that finding your personal style is trial & error. I'm feeling guilty about buying some pieces that I thought I'd love, but after wearing realized they aren't me or I just didn't feel like I thought I would in them. My town just opened a Goodwill store; I'm going to donate some summer pieces that I wore just the once, or still have the tags on them & were too late to return once I decided it wasn't right.

I've been about the same size most of my life, and I've always had a very good idea of what I liked and what looked good on me. But these reminders you give are important. I'm in my late 60's and realize that just because I can wear something (crop tops), doesn't mean I should, lol! I've sold/donated/given to friends, about 70% of my wardrobe in the last month. It's gotten to where I don't want to travel because I do not want to pack! Something had to give, and it's most of my wardrobe, that wasn't being utilized anyway. I'm still purging, but my anxiety level doesn't shoot up anymore when I walk into my closet.

Love the low shaft boots will definitely wear them but love your tips especially the one that black is not the only and in most cases not even the best neutral to wear!!

This season you (and perhaps maybe Beyonce), have inspired me to embrace a middle hair part after decades of side part loyalty! I'm loving it! These were helpful tips I don't usually consider! In terms of fit, I'd add, make sure an item is *flattening* . I've discovered items that are in great condition, fit perfectly, feel great but just don't look *flattering* on me due to the cut, color, print, etc. Let them go!

Lost weight during the last year gone down a whole size in pants! 🥹 One day early summer I found a red zipperbag with Merry Christmas on the side, in a closet, stored away since I moved in the house 11 years ago! Inside were 14 pairs of my old jeans in different colours and styles! I tried them on one by one -and behold- they all (exept one pair of white LEE jeans, sigh!) fit again after 15-20 something years!!!🤩Light blue, red, yellow, off white, beige, dark blue, medium blue, bootcut, all in good shape ! Well lesson learnt-don’t throw away -store! Bye from 🇸🇪

Hi Anna . I love that pink top and your hair is super shiny...u know us hair stylists always look at the hair. Well, I have taken three big black garbage bags to the clothing pantry, but after watching this, i think I need to have less clothes. I love the one about buying the size that fits. I can be a different size in different stores. I can be a large, a medium, an x large and a few times a small. I bought two pairs of wife leg jeans in two sizes. I wanted the dark jeans to have a fitted look and no distressing and the lighter pair with distressing to be a litttle baggier and casual and comfortable. I loved every one of your Dos..Like you, I have planned an outfit and that night it did not look as I imagined. Thanks Anna...may start tomorrow on another closet clean out. I’ve learned so much from you, Anna! I’ve modified my wardrobe so much from your tips the past year and have felt so much more comfortable in my own skin. One video idea that I’ve been wanting but hesitant to ask because I know it’s not as widely applicable is this - how to still look nice while pregnant. Maternity basics. I’m not one of those women who barely looks pregnant 30 weeks in. Pre-pregnancy I’m 5’6” and 130 lbs… I tend to gain 60-80 lbs in my pregnancies. It’s been a struggle finding things as simple as seamless underwear. Any advice on this topic would be most welcome. Again, I know not as applicable but even under the umbrella of “my body is changing; how do I still look nice in the transition period” may be more widely relevant. Thank you so much!

I always make the mistake that I plan my outfit in my head and then am not satisfied when I actually put it on. Causing stress to find something else in a hurry! I do love colorful underwear sets but I don’t own a lot of them because you are right they can’t be worn with everything. A lot of nudes for every day.

Wow! Your video was so timely for me today! I recently have lost a lot of weight. Im now an 8 instead of a 12. However, I’m wearing, for the most part, the same clothing. Leaving all the size 12’s still hanging in my closet. Sooooo after watching your video I’m going to now purge my closet of 12’s! Thank You! Thank you!

I always make sure I have the shoes and accessories that are perfect for an occasion outfit, too. I don’t want to end up having to wear nude shoes and my day bag at the last minute. I love my nude shoes, but sometimes I want to match or coordinate shoes to a dress. All my clothes are several sizes too big, having shrunk in late middle age, but it’s so hard to part with clothes I still really love. I’m trying.❤

Shoes also super important and can elevate the whole outfit. II tend to keep things for years in hope that il wear them at some point so going to get home and de clutter 😅😅!

I am one and really trying to break the habit mostly because my husband continues with "when are you going to learn", that I think my wardrobe before trying it on. I think I'll just wear the red dress, until it's time to wear that dress and it's not right, then the dressing tornada starts. My husband stands in the doorway shaking his head uuuuug which drives me crazier. I love everything about this video. But one thing that women do that drives me nuts and it's just me, I'm sure. We're coming into the cooler season, and I see women who will have on a belly showing blouse, sweater or whatever than complaint that they're cold. It's winter, cover your belly, what the heck. This drives me nuts.

I don't buy things b/c there on sale & I agree to pay attention when you have a "wow" outfit on & your shoes look "Blah", I always had fashionable shoes, but getting older/developing annoying foot problems, I am limited to the stylish shoes, oh well, I still make it work! I love the jeans you have on with the White T Shirt, anything you wear, looks awesome!

I wear my fun bras & undies underneath my chunky sweaters when I want to feel extra pretty. On many occasions, I simply wear comfortable undergarments. However, some days I want to spice it up just a little.

I hand wash my natural fabrics , drip dry on the line. I have no car or washer ,dryer. So they stay perfect.

I usually go thru my closet once a year. That time is coming up soon. I will try to part with more this year. I always have some aspirational things that I keep but never wear…maybe I can get rid of some🤔

I never edited or rearranged my closet when summer rolled around so my faux and real leather jackets and boots were front and center causing me to scrounge around for hot summer clothing.
