How To Replace Serpentine Belt Toyota

In this episode we change out the serpentine belt on our Toyota FJ Cruiser.
It's a very simple task, doing it from the bottom not the top.
During the process we found a bad idler pulley which we'll change out at a later date.

Couple things: 1. Never get under a car lifted or not without putting SAFETY JACK STANDS under so if your lifting jack fails..... 2. Start the engine before putting skid plate back and look at belt to make sure it looks like It's correctly positioned.

Thanks for the advice Brian but, if you watch the video you’ll notice the front tires are sitting on solid, reliable ramps that incorporate an “anti roll back” feature. What you don’t see, but rest assured they’re there, are wheel chocks on the passenger rear, along with the parking brake set. Making jack stands totally unnecessary. Your point about testing before reinstalling the plate is spot on. I did in fact test it, without the camera rolling, should have made that clear in the video.Thanks for watching our video!

Do you know if the diagram shown will work for 2010 and up? I have heard Toyota made some changes with the increased power in the the later years. Changing the belt on my 2010 this weekend. Thank you, great video.

Sure, we replaced one in the video. They're easy to do. We've never changed out an idler pulley but how hard could it be?

Hello thanks for sharing that and I have a couple of questions: Was the belt making noises that you decided to change it? How did you fix the bad idler pulley noise? thanks

Thanks for watching! We had a pully making noise. After we got the old belt off we could easily find the pully that was making the noise. Replaced it.

Hey guys... have you had a chance to replace the tensioner pulley? I may have to do this shortly. Do you actually turn it clockwise to undo it?

As a matter of fact we did change it a couple weeks ago and yes, the bolt has reverse threads. Clockwise to loosen.

So was it Squaking at you win you would turn an low speed or what

It was a high pitch squeal, mostly heard at low RPMs.

I'm sorry no. We've been caught up with other things and haven't got to it yet. We do have a new project vehicle coming in that we'll need to put a relay box in to feed all the extras on it, maybe then.
