Until them I doubt many will even contemplate joining up. I remember back in the day when lads couldn't wait to join the forces after leaving school because for many it was a chance to see the world and to learn a trade or other skills. The cadet training centres were full to overflowing and married personnel had the option of forces accommodation. My uncle was a major, stationed in Germany, and had a lovely house out there. Now accommodation lies empty, some of it being made available to ille gals when so many of our own people are homeless through no fault of their own. This uncaring attitude seems to have grown over the last 50 years and especially over the last 20.
