Looks really good. Those back legs have worked out very well. The only thing that came to mind while watching this morning was the yellow at the top of the banner and colour of the lance were both pretty similar warm colours. Impressive as usual matey.

Cheers mate. I know what you mean about those colours, I may add a more silver highlights to the lance.
@MrBlackear

@MiniatureRealms It was just the yellow next to the warm brown of the wood, but there a good amount of differentiation between them. I did think you were going to do the entire banner blue as I watched along. It's not a big thing, I am just mentally scared from having Ron Kruzie assess some of painted figures at Smogcon that I was well pleased with. Well until after speaking to him at any rate.🤣 As he picked up pointed out that there warm colours adjacent were too similar in tones.

😂 I’ve been there myself. It was to match the halved yellow blue theme of the army, and the other flags and banners really. But I agree and will take a look at that.

In the beginning I was like “Nooo the old Louen model is so cool and the fact that the hippo griffs aren’t huge is what makes it cool!” Not a fan of everything big and badder is cooler. At all. Also the per portions and art direction. Like the griffons body being so much bigger then it’s head. However, you killed this and made it look great. Very impressive man! Definitely seen you’re stuff but hearing there’s more old world got me subscribed , thanks 🤙🏽

Thank you Steve 🙂 I hear you on the not ‘everything big and badder is cooler’ thing, I don’t often gravitate towards that kind of thing. He’s definitely bigger than a normal Hippogryph, I was tempted to use the High Elf plastic one to convert from, as it’s a bit smaller, but decided this beast was going to be unusually large for its species.

I love the 6th edition Hippogryph sculpt. But this is a great job you have done making this. That said, I think it might have been a good idea to pin the lance, as I imagine that might snap quite easily... Also I use Imperial Crosses like that all across my Empire armies, so having that decal is quite distracting for me.... I almost wonder if some cloth barding may have helped a bit too.... Still really great job though!

Thank you Andrew. I agent with the cross, I guess I’m very much swayed by historical influences rather than Warhammer lore, and I have a little army fluff idea for it, but I may do something to ‘Bretonify’ it more.

Amazing work! Can’t wait to see you paint new TOW miniatures when they finally come out. Btw I know this wasn’t a painting tutorial but I’m curious about something: when you did the zenithal highlights you tilted the model upside down hitting the bottom part of the wings. I thought zenithal was supposed to represent light from above? Thanks a lot for the help!
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 8 ай бұрын
Thank you, really can’t wait to get my hands on some of those new miniatures, I’ll certainly be doing some videos on them as soon as I can but them. You’re totally right, zenithal is officially really just from a single light source, but I do use the term as a bit of a ‘catch all’ description at times. The issue with doing a pure zenithal on a gaming miniature, is that far too much would be left black, which is perfect if you’re doing a competition piece like a bust for example, but doesn’t work well in this example. I still use the term zenithal as the light tends to be focussed top down, and the paint is definitely heavier from that angle. I also use the new phrase of ‘slapchop’, as I very often add a white drybrush stage as well, further enhancing the detail. Essentially what I’m doing in a significant amount of ‘underpainting’, preparing the miniature for colour in a way that benefits heavy glaze style base layer paints like contrast/Speedpaint/Xpress Color. It’s probably a better term to use, and I need to use it more.
@andrewstark1320
@andrewstark1320 8 ай бұрын
@@MiniatureRealms Cheers thanks a lot for the explanation, I'm gonna go look further into the concept of underpainting. I'm still a beginner and zenithal+contrasts+highlights seem a good compromise for us new to the hobby that want to do something more apart from the obvious basecoating+shading. I understand why for this kind of model pure zenithal wouldn't work well tho, since contrasts require a lighter surface and applying them on an only black primed miniature would be useless.

Great work, it came out really well and the paint job looks fantastic; I do have one question though, what was the spray you kept using on the miniature during the build? Thank you. The spray was super glue activator, just sets the super glue almost instantly. Tool wise I buy most of mine from Amazon these days, Army Painter do some cheap ones that aren’t great, GW ones are very good but overpriced. GF9 (Gale Force 9) do some good stuff.

Thank you. 🙂 Yes I’m looking forward to the news as well, guess they had to get 40k out of the way, and with the box release today, and the core rules pre-order, I think next week might allow some other news. Not expecting anything huge though, sadly I don’t think we will see TOW until next year. And yes, there will be more videos on the Bretonnia project, I’m not numbering them like I have done with previous games, but I have update videos planned alongside the tutorials.

I'm curious why you didn't pick one flank or the other rather than keeping both flanks? To my eye it makes the torso a bit too long and is more of a challenge to sculpt over. Still a fabulous project and a unique piece that I'm sure will draw attention. Well done.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I think it ended up about the same length. I could cut much closer to the eagle side, there was only about 5mm to the wing socket, then the other way was very close to the horse thigh. The lion/big cat also tapers away quickly with a much smaller belly, so retaining that from the horse made sense. I think both other options would have made it harder, and with it being central I had space to work either way to create a smooth join. That of course is just my assessment beforehand, but having done it I wouldn’t change that part.

@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 6 ай бұрын
It’s was actually made from small strips of foil packaging that I cut from scalpel blade packaging. It’s the kind you also find on the tops of some yoghurt pots, the key is it holds its shape, so posable to an extent. Just cut it to shape, superglue one end, then shape and glue the rest in place. After priming works fine.

You said the reins are foil packaging? How does that work?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 9 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s something I wish I filmed, so hard to explain. It was the kind of stiff foil you get on packs of scalpel blades, much thicker than kitchen foil, doesn’t tear. Similar stuff can be found os yogurt pot lids as well. Anyway, I just cut it to the size I wanted, shaped it to fit nicely (it retaining some shape is what makes it handle), and then superglued it in place before priming.

Really like your Bretonnian stuff, trying to avoid the videos though as I most definitely DO NOT want another project or yet another game system added to my already creaking shelves. Way back I had a full Bretonnian army that was painted in a Templar theme that took my fancy having seen it in a White Dwarf. Got rid of it, along with the Dark Elves, when I left the UK for good. I don't get rid of painted stuff now, EVER!

The use of the black templar cross for heraldry pushed the model in the German direction. It is extremely similar to the Iron Cross (I know that it isn't Renaissance, but it is still part of the German army. And the Empire is Renaissance Germany + Magic) P.S. Next time you need a part of an animal, look at toys, not GW.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
The cross is a grey area, but it’s the Templar Knights theme I’m going for, when I finalise the armies lore it will make more sense. As a single mini I don’t think it helps shed the Empire themes of the mini, but will hopefully work in the context of the army. I did think about toys, would have definitely been cheaper, but also much harder to find on the right scale and the quality I needed.

Thank you 🙂. I think I’ll buy another one to use in a future Empire army, love the sculpt as well.
