Here me thinking that the the minis I've painted were Tabletop ready, this has blown my mind as to what tabletop ready should look like
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 6 ай бұрын
There’s definitely no ‘should look like’, ‘tabletop’ is such a widely used term, and I think encompasses a use range of standards from basic flat colours to something relatively detailed in some areas. For me I just me they’re not ‘box art’ standard.

that turquoise and red Khemri scheme really pops, I'd like to do a different city when I pick these up but its hard to envision a scheme that would suit them so well.

Fantastic as always. I just want to say that I have really appreciated your choice to do tinted mummy-wraps. It not a choice I would have thought tom make before this but the contrast it adds, while still working the turqoise, is excellent.

As always a very lovely paint job and also very clear steps how you achieved it. I will be rewatching these many times when the TK minis come out 😀 EBay rescues are an excellent way to get hold of these minis but definitely they can come with a bit of extra work to either clean up mold lines or paint jobs. Sometimes mind you it can be very favourable as either the poses or conversions are really nice and some have been painted to a high standard. Recently I’ve been picking up metal Bretonnians men at arms and also foot knights and a unit of 22 metal armoured skeletons which I have always wanted more of
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 8 ай бұрын
Thank you 🙂 I’ve very nearly bought some of those old men at arms myself, but decided they don’t quite fit the aesthetic I’m after now.
@Svengar
@Svengar 8 ай бұрын
@@MiniatureRealms there is certainly a lot more chainmail on the older men at arms although quite a few also have surcoats like the plastic ones do. I suspect they are noticeably smaller than the current plastics? They do have a different feel to them I’m thinking of getting the plastic knights when they are released and I would love to field metal infantry…possibly some of the plastic infantry too as they will be considerably more accessible in a few more months at least There are some lovely looking proxy minis done in metal by Blacktree…men of Averaign I believe they are called.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 8 ай бұрын
@Svengar yep I think they will be a bit smaller than the plastics, the ‘current’ ones are 6th Ed; so definite scale creep by then.

@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 8 ай бұрын
Oh you should absolutely play your favourites, and there’s plenty of stunning new models to use from AOS if you needed them as well. There’s a certain amount of irony that some of the ‘legacy factions’ may only get a basic get you by list, but will have a more modern range of miniatures.

absolutley loving your painting videos for the old world! Im wondering, do you give the whole model a coat of varnish afterwards? ive never used weathering pigments before but im under the impression that you need a varnish after to seal everything in? Ive always been worried about sealing my minis as i once use a matt varnish and the mini looked so flat afterwards
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Ай бұрын
Thank you. I’m with you completely on varnishing, and try to avoid it as a final stage for the same reasons. Where I do I tended to airbrush varnish, and nearly always before metals. Anyway, a little more relevant to your question. For dry pigment powders you can fix them, there are some very good products to do so, however I believe that also spoils that final look. As 99% of the way I use powders is just on the bases and feet, it’s amazing what you can get away with. Not only does the powder mostly just go into all the gaps in the base texture etc, but it’s also in places that you just don’t really handle (most people pick up minis by the edges of the base, or heads and shoulders of minis). Because of this I don’t fix it, as I want to keep the look, and I really don’t have any issues. Now for other kinds of models like tanks etc, that can be different in many cases, but in terms of bases on models like this, I never do.

I'm curious. Did you actually cut out the slots in the base to stick the horses on? Seemed the easier and logical thing to do with my chariots.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 2 ай бұрын
These were all eBay rescues from before the release, so I think the slots were pre-cut. Either way works though.

That’s the nature of the spectrum of black, some tend towards the grey and even brown tones, others the more blue spectrum.

How do you represent the champion of the chariots?
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 5 ай бұрын
I’m not sure if there is an ‘official’ solution suggested in the assembly instructions, but there are lots of extra bits on the sprues that you could easy make one skellie stand out from the rest.

I don’t think they will, the Bretonnia release announcement was a big giveaway. All the old stuff back, some new characters in plastic and resin (including that bone dragon), and maybe another plastic kit in the way the Brets got the foot knights.
