Thanks for the unboxing and review of these new minis Stuart. I, for one, am still on the fence with the range as I do not look forward to painting them. Besides I already have a massive back log of minis to paint...lol. Cheers mate!

Thanks - they look very good. I have the original metal commanders and in their own way, they took me time to sort out, as I chopped the soft metal flagpole out and replaced with brass and then you had the figure that was in half - torso and legs, so as you say, clean-up is just part of the miniatures scene.

Yep agree completely. There are definitely examples of Siocast being so bad it’s impossible to get a good result from clean up, but luckily these don’t fall into that category.

I was at CanCon last weekend and I was told by someone in the know that they are going to be doing Pike and Shotte in epic later in the year

You’re the second person to say this (another in the Epic Water Facebook group). Epic ECW would have been my original guess as I’d heard rumours back when Waterloo was announced. While John Stallard has consistently spoken about Romans and Carthaginians (with Elephants), I wasn’t sure which would be next (as I think they will do both. But the Hail Caesar V2 launch got me thinking it would be a year of ancients, and the Epic Rome would make sense, but from the sounds of things maybe not. I’d imagine HQ are either not happy about the leaks, or they’ve been told to deliberately leak, or even say the wrong thing to get people chatting 😆 I’ll be excited either way, and definitely cover it on the channel. Might not have quite as big plans for it as with ACW and Napoleonics, but I’ll definitely buy in, I want a multi period collection.

Another great unboxing and review Stuart. I'm very tempted to start a bit of a ACW Epic collection now that the range has been expanded a bit. These look like cracking figures, fan of these sculpts over alternatives and look forward to seeing them painted. I'm certainly warming to the newer siocast minis, the detail is very good and the newer slighty harder blend is easier to work with too. Know its a constant topic with Warlord but the pricing seems particularly excessive on these, they cost peanuts to cast in material (something warlord like to bang on about as a benefit of siocast) but cost over £2 per figure, considering you can get 28mm metal cavalry for £3 a figure it is a lot. If they where £5-8 and i'd buy these without hesitation when i start my Epic ACW project, at the current price I'll only buy them if i really get into the period.

Thank you James. I agree on the sculpts, in my opinion they’re miles ahead on realism and quality compared to Peter Pig, Minifigs (they don’t do ACW but close on scale). I’m hopeful that Siocast continues to improve, I think it will. Pricing is an odd one, I get what you mean they are more expensive than others at the same scale (about £1 more each compared to Peter Pig and Minifigs), but personally I’m happy to pay that extra £5 for the sculpts, if i needed multiple units of 12/18/24 at that price then I may have thought about it more, but for personalities like that I’m happy to pay it. If you buy them from a FLGS at 20% off then the comparison then gets even better of course.

@@MiniatureRealms i think its the tight yorkshireman logic in me going, i can get a tidy bit of cheap lightweight stuff for a load of money or a nice slab of heavy expensive stuff for less. Though i would 100% go for these for the sculpts at this scale, but at the price i could just go big with 28mm keep yarkshire gamer happy and have some beautiful perry metals :D

I really wish they released a pack for all the epic scale nations which had a few generic commanders for infantry and cav brigades and whatnot, I don’t like having just one or two types of commanders in my army or a bunch of high ranking named ones.
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
Yep I’d like that as well, a set of generic ones would be really cool.

Hey Stuart really looking forward to seeing these painted up! In one of your videos you talk about using vellejo model color in you're airbrush thinned with water. I've been avoiding spraying vellejo because it's so thick. Could you let me know how you do it percentage wise and what not? Thanks!👍
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew. I’m afraid there’s not really a set percentage, I do it more by eye, and it will vary based on the paint itself (different pigment amounts), and your equipment (airbrush, pressure etc). I’d say start thin, test, add more paint until it flows how you’d like it to. I definitely don’t see paints as some fit the airbrush and some not, if it’s the right colour then you can use it if thinned correctly (there will always be some exceptions of course). Having thinner and flow improver helps, I tend to use the flow improver on high pigment paints, these tend to be the most problematic. Greys, whites, lighter colours like creams and pinks etc.

What do we do about bases
@MiniatureRealms
@MiniatureRealms 11 ай бұрын
I guess Warlord think that people with either use the leftover 20mm square bases from the regular sprues (there’s one left spare each one), or people use their own versions (I like to use rounds for commanders, and for some base them up with a few others to represent other command officers).

I think many would agree with you. I think we will slowly seen the decline of metal miniatures for the larger companies, just not as cost effective for them anymore as the prices have rocketed over the last few years. At the other end of the scale it still suits the very small companies, at think when casting lower numbers it’s still viable there, especially as Siocast machines are expensive (as are plastic production costs). It’s one of those things that the saving to the ‘mass producers’ means it’s not going away. At this scale and for this range, I’d genuinely be happy with either.
