I had a cat that went into kidney failure after getting an injection of Metacam post surgery and being sent home with more Metacam. He survived but it was touch and go for awhile and he stayed on subq fluids for support. Now I have NO METACAM on the front of all my cat's charts. Never again. Thank you for giving this topic much needed attention.

A certain level of pain can be beneficial to healing. One of my dogs injured a foot running over rocks. He limped for two weeks and I let him. He was not hurt bad, xrays showed no broken bones or other major injuries. The pain told him to favor that foot. Two weeks later all healed and no drug side effects. If I blocked the pain with drugs he would have kept injuring the foot. Pain has a purpose. Love your channel sharing this on my FB page.

Lost my very first Golden Retriever and best friend to veterinary prescribed NSAIDS and a series of post TPLO surgery medications/NSAIDS. Kidney failure 3-4 days post surgery, and steady decline over ~8 weeks until complete kidney failure. Life changing experience for me.

How long was your dog taking it for? My dog was given it for an injury and developed diarrhea and issues right away, do you. Have any recommendations for treating the gut that worked for you? On top of it all our vet refused to believe it was the Galliprant when it was the only new thing added to his diet 🤦‍♂️ and the effects were right at the same time as taking it. He tried to act like it was his diet, if that was so he would have had diarrhea prior Ridiculous

@@socratese5 Two doses is all it took. I honestly have no advice for things to give as my dog literally has reactions to everything. There is something called gastro elm plus many try for gi issues. Didn't work for mine. Vets will never blame meds on anything because its how they make money.

Mein herzliches Beileid. RIP kleiner Boston Terrier.

My dog Gracie has been on Carprofen, an NSAID. She was experiencing neurological symptoms, and because what I read said these side effects are rare, I figured her symptoms were caused by aging-she’s nearly 14. However, when I didn’t give Gracie the Carprofen for a few days, because she wouldn’t take it (smart dog), her symptoms were gone and she was alert, active and playful again. Then, I gave it to her again and her symptoms returned. 🤦‍♀️ I have the 95% Curcumin, and CBD oil. So we are on a new adventure. Thank you for your dedication to all of us and our Lovelies! 🐶🐱

Thank you so much for putting this information out there. As pet parents, we should just be able to trust that vets have our pet's best interests at heart, but it isn't always so. They often don't seem to think about the whole animal, just symptoms or a single organ/system and it leads to problems. They rarely talk about all the risks of medications and almost never explain the mode of action. Very few are willing to discuss alternatives. I wish they'd start learning from you. It's so important that people know these facts so they can ask good questions and make informed decisions. I hope you make more videos like this so people can best protect their animal friends.

Our Doberman was prescribed Metacam when he hurt himself on a tree branch. He started to lose hair on his face. Vet looked into it and it's a common side effect. I took him off it immediately. He passed last year due to complications with seizures. I do believe we way over medicate our animals.

My daschund was put on rymidal for shoulder pain. Within hours she had a seizures. After some research my vet told me it was a side effect, but not likely. Long story short she died 48 hours later at the emergency vet clinic. Tests showed high levels of metal. They told me that it was highly likely the rimadyl was the cause.

Vet told me cush the pill up and give it to him with peanut butter. My beagle won't eat it. Two months of this drug, my beagle stopped eating and his kidney was messed up. I had to put him to sleep. My chihuahua was put on Metacam for arthritis by my previous vet, it caused her to have bloody stools. Her new vet has prescribed galliprant, for her Cushing syndrome, but I have only use it maybe twice. She is also on a “cough pill”, (yellow pill) no name on the label, so I have no ideal what it is? And Keppra for seizures! My veterinarian said be sure to give every 8 hours, well I try to hide in her dog food, she’d find it and spit it out, so I quit giving it to her. She was prescribed Cerena for collapsed trachea , half tablet (16mg) but doesn’t seem to be helping, I requested prednisone 2.5 but vet prescribed Cerenia instead. They gave my other dog prednisone for her collapse trachea and she no longer has problems, it’s been months. I can hide the prednisone in her food and she takes it, it works great. I know all about the side effects of prednisone but it does work, she’s 13 and I want her to have better quality of life than to be hacking, coughing from sunrise to bedtime. The CBD hasn’t helped her any. Four Cerenia pills were $45 and prednisone costs pennies.

My kittens had a high fever (104-106F) from some infection and the very first day the vet gave them NSAID. They weren't going through any kind of surgical procedure, rather they were only being given an antiobiotic (augmentan), subcutaneous fluids and other injections. A day later, one of the kittens died. I told the vet that he had been more lethargic than the other kittens after the first round of treatment since the others had gotten better but he wasn't treated any differently. The night before he died he suddenly started shaking, after which he could barely walk and just wanted to hide. The following morning we took him to the vet and his temperature had dropped even though it was fine almost 16 hours before. He was at 93F and apparently had jaundice too as his mouth and paws were extremely pale. The vet said he now has organ failure. But without warming the kitten whatsoever they started to give him multivitamins and many many other injections. He died during the process. The others look better for now, but I still suspect that they could go into some sort of relapse :(

This explains a few things. My little tortoiseshell kitty was put on Robenacoxib (Onsior) following dental surgery back in Feb and has had acid reflux ever since. We were not only sent home with a several day supply but also a refill. 😮 And this was on top of the time release NSAID injection the vet gave her before sending her home. Fortunately, Onsior isn't as bad as Metacam, from what I've been able to find, but it definitely has its own issues. Ever since the surgery we've had to give my kitty 1/8 of a pepcid tablet before dinner most days, and I'm worried we're locked in a cycle. If I'd known this was a possibility with Robenacoxib I would have taken her off of it far sooner. That said, I'm just as much at fault. I should have done more research on the stuff before giving to my beautiful fur baby, especially since she has a history of acid reflux. She hadn't had any issues with it for a few years, though, prior to the dental surgery, so I didn't think it would be an issue... 😟

Metacam (meloxicam) -- had a perfect blood test on a senior on 3/6 was given this drug on 3/7 for suspected kennel cough after his daughter had kc. on 3/9 back in to vet because of breathing difficulties (bad) they gave him doxycyclene and continued metacam. black stools. bad breathing. on 3/18 puked up blood and he nearly died for the entire week following. we removed the metacam, doxy and a cough med. he got sucralfate, a chinese herb for blood clotting, and omeprazole. now he has laryngeal paralysis, they think. he was perfectly great on 3/6. 3/7 it was a drippy nose that worried me and from there it was a nightmare.

My dog's vet has her on Carprofen (generic Rimadyl) for arthritis - 100mg twice a day because she's a big dog. She has been on it for a few years and I'm not really comfortable with that. I haven't given it to her for about a month now and see no difference. She doesn't act like she's in pain. She is an 11.5 year old American Pitbull and they diagnosed her with a torn ligament in her knee a few years ago but wouldn't do surgery because of her age/weight. She's not fat, just a big girl. She was in expensive prescription weight loss dog food for a few years and only lost a few pounds. She doesn't even limp at all any more, although she also doesn't want to play or run like she used to.

And she was to eat only 3 level measuring cups per day. But between that and the Carprofen (which the vet is now charging $100 for 60 pills; one month's worth - and they won't give a prescription to get it at an online pet pharmacy where it is $38.60 for the exact same thing - plus she's on thyroid medicine as well, it's expensive. Thank goodness the thyroid medicine is fairly inexpensive. We still feed her good dog food that is not cheap - just not the prescription. I couldn't see paying that much for food that didn't even work that well. Plus, it didn't seem to satisfy her!

Mein herzliches Beileid.

Gute Besserung❣👍🏽

Which works really well to stop the itching, however, she was diagnosed with cancer this past January, had surgery to remove her tumor on her shoulder and I found a holistic vet to take her to instead of chemo and radiation. She told me that 40% of dogs that take Apoquel will develop cancer, something her regular vet never told me. She’s doing okay, but her cancer is returning. We’re fighting it with diet, a raw or home cooked keto is necessary because processed carbs, which is most dry dog foods feed the cancer. Moral of the story, find a homeopathic vet if you can, do the necessary tests to find out what your dog is sensitive, so you can boost their immune system which is at the root of the problem, then tweek their diet using good quality supplements and vitamins. I wish I knew then what I know now. 😢

@@wendyneal4900 THANK YOU! That is horrible and I never knew that. I myself try to go low carb so it makes sense for dogs also. I figured if the allergies cause ear infection and rash between the toes and can't feel good at the least so I'm not surprised. Thanks for the info! I'm hopping my guy is only allergic to a few things but in a month or so I'll find out..... Good luck with your pooch I'm dreading the day when I'll have to make those calls with my dog.😔
