Not once have I read anywhere that the actor Jack Gleeson ever got hated upon. Only prise for his masterful portrayal of Joffrey.

Well, if he got a lot of hate it's really a bunch of compliments! He played his character fantastically, I personally don't think any other actor could have done as well as Jack in that role.

KoG GoK What's the point of bringing in characters and completely demolishing their entire persona? Of course we want them as they are in the books. That's what makes the books good! Why do you have to change things other than to be practical? Never change a winning concept.

spacechampion In the books, Joffrey scratches deeply into his own neck with his fingernails, drawing blood, as he desperately claws at his own throat struggling to breath. Also in the book, Catelyn does the same with her fingernails to her own face because she is insane with grief moments before her death. The show opted to skip over that detail in both scenes, but I don't think either scene was any less powerful. In the book Joffrey's face was described as turning purple and swollen, so what they did on the show was exactly what I imagined and I think they did an excellent job with the makeup and however else they made his face look like that.

Holly Green I know, I've read the books as soon as they were published more than a decade ago. Scratching is not the same as the silly idea of ripping one's throat out.

I guess I imagined it/remembered it a lot differently when I read it, still, would have liked to see him do that

Holly Green the dying face effects were actually CGI with some makeup. The things you can do with CGI these days, no longer just giant robots.

Daniel James I think the most boring character is Stannis. He's a lurker always among them but never one of them.

Stannis is supposed to be boring, he's a king in the story, not a comedy act. He is doing his duty, none of that is in the show, they've fucked it up, almost completely ruined the character. He let's his men keep the seven, that is really importent to his character, because it shows he's not as rigid as you think, and later in the story when he has three or four armies with different belief systems, that's a key plot point and will only cause problems when they have to back track later on. You're behind Stannis to win the battle in the snow because he is against a piece of shit house, even if you don't like the character, and when being completely subjective, that almost entirely wreaks the plot if they don't show that he's just doing his duty, he doesn't even want to be king. The shows take on him is complete and utter shit.They've created more problems then they understand yet. Stannis is supposed to be boring and harsh and dutiful. It's story telling not fan service I'm talking about. I don't give a fuck about Stannis over Dany or any of that shit, I just want to see Stannis given his due like every other character.

Transient Aesthetics Well Jon did caution him about the Northerners really not taking kindly to people trying to insult their Gods. Stannis _needs_ them he has no choice. He's pragmatic as ever.

MrKJ444 Actually, Stannis' scene was not written by GRRM. It was meant for the first episode, and they moved it.

And I do agree that Stannis is a completely different character on the tv series.

In the show Loras knows that Brienne did not kill Renly and Loras is first born son so he to be Lord of Highgargen They cut out other brothers (Trells) I know they screw up lot of things.

Yeah, but his facial expression could suggest that he feels uncomfortable accepting everything Melisandre does. I think that as soon as Melisandre distances herself from Stannis because of Jon, he will get more likeable (or so I hope). ^^

They did a good job of explaining him; he's a practical man, he's not happy about his new "religion" but he can see it winning him the war so he's sticking to it. He's just had his character adapted quite poorly by the directors and screenwriters who seem to want to show him as a shallow, conceited, fool who blindly follows any woman who holds power. He was never supposed to fuck Melisandre, or berate his wife. He is still a man of honour and great intelligence.

Lon Shevu Stephen Dillane is a great actor, but yes, the producers don't understand who he is. I think the best way to describe him, it's this quote of Donal Noye: "Robert was the true steel. Stannis is pure iron, black and hard and strong, yes, but brittle, the way iron gets. He’ll break before he bends. And Renly, that one, he’s copper, bright and shiny, pretty to look at but not worth all that much at the end of the day"

I've read the books and honestly feel like they do a fairly good job. Some of the complexity has been taken away, but Stannis in the books is very similar to how he is in the show. He's iron-willed, unbending, and he falls deep under Melisandre's influence. He honestly believes that he is AA, and he does allow many men to be burnt alive. That being said, the whole "infidel" thing is quite out of character as he never becomes expressively fanatical, but not far from his black and white world view.

You speak a lot of sense. Stannis "may" be a terrible king due to his lady friend.. I could imagine a lot of people being burned at the stake.. but otherwise he'd be great.

MrDenizen In the books he let's his men keep the seven, nobody would get burned accept for those who broke the law, davos even keeps the seven gods. Stannis doesn't care, in fact kind of respects him for not being weak minded.
