They don't make players like Franz anymore, he mainly played as a libero which meant he was responsible for the distribution of ball on the pitch whilst maintaining defensive stability. The talent you need to possess to play in that position was immense and he had loads of that.

@Charlie Nolan Offside exists since 1925, I don't know why this myth exists that offside wasn't a thing in the old days. In fact it was even harsher back then, because before the 90s a striker couldn't even be level with the defender, they had to be physically behind them. Nowadays strikers can at least be level with the defenders, as long as they aren't ahead of them.

He played the remaining 25+ minutes of the 1970 World Cup Semi Final match against Italy and almost lead his team to victory with a very bad dislocated shoulder. I see modern players roll on the ground and cry for their mama's in such situation before being lifted off the pitch. He clearly is a beast and deserve the praise he has gotten over the years.

Franz Beckenbauer has to be one of the true all time greats. He owned the libero position and made it "his". He had wonderful passing ability, read the game extremely well, great vision and tremendous leadership skills. I really liked that german team, of the early, middle seventies. I also have to mention the midfield maestro, Gunther Netzer, who was so good it was ridiculus. His long range passes, especially with the outside on the foot was works of art ... Great nostalgia ...

He was even better than people say… Never gave up possession in dangerous areas, tremendous vision, very quick one touches, lighting pace, pinpoint passing, effective and refined assist provider, leader, excellent defender, could dribble past people with ease and elegance, finesse control, accurate shooting from long distance, elite playmaker… etc.

Make no mistake: There hasn’t appeared a sweeper/midfielder of his quality since. Definitely a top 8 of all time, at least, player… Imagine Pirlo but with quicker one touches, as good as a top centre back defensively, quick as a top forward, great engine, and could cut the opposition midfield with the ease of a top attacking midfielder; with either passing or dribbling, or both

I've no idea what pes is but I'm old enough to have seen Beckenbauer play, so: Maldini superb, Ramos very good, Baresi, Koeman excellent, but the Kaiser a class above even these great players.
