Was THE LAST OF US a Good ADAPTATION?

I Typoh, talk about the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us and it's place amongst various other videogame adaptations. Debating whether or not it broke the Videogame Adaptation Curse and changed the way we perceive these works of various acclaimed videogames. Does this show suck??? (algorithm chum)

I felt like the show was decent but very forgettable. It suffered from oversimplifying some themes and did not give us the same connection to Ellie or Joel like in the game. The last Episode was extremely rushed and felt something out of a comic book when he started killing the fireflies. It did not take it's time to expand the world unfortunately. The best episode was the gay episode with Nick Offerman because it took it's time to explain and explore a simple story. I think it would have benefited more if they took 2 seasons for the first game. I felt nothing for these characters. While Pedro Pascal is a decent actor I did not feel like he was very good as Joel nor that his acting was particularly great or that he even gave a shit. Great video tho.

Bella Ramsey proving the cast not being allowed to research the game was a bad idea with that stupid comment of hers about how Ellie is just a violent girl with a violent heart, lol.

That's not completely wrong though. Even the director of the game says this. Ellie does have violence in her. Not just violence, but in general she is a violent girl

@@tmm4195oh you don't know that Bruce Straley is the reason the first game is as good as it is and that Neil took all the credit and forced Bruce and Amy Hennig out of Naughty Dawg after getting promoted to studio head. the guy is a total narcissist who surrounds himself with yes men. if you asked him how much a pile of his shit would be you'd ask if there were gold nuggets in his colon.

Woah, I couldn't disagree more about the winter segment. The infected were there for a story/character reason, it made the distrustful Ellie bond slightly with David through fighting together for survival. She didn't fully drop her guard, but she got comfortable enough not to hold her gun around him which says a lot. And no, it wouldn't have been too videogamey for them to fight off some infected. It probably would've been a lot less videogamey than episode 5. On my first playthrough even I considered David might be an ally. That's what made the reveal of his true nature so good. In the show Ellie's and David's thing wasn't nearly as compelling. Ellie meets him, she basically points her gun at him the whole time and David almost instantly spills his guts. The connection just isn't there. I also think David's design in the game was better, for a specific reason. The dark/gray hair, scruffy beard, sunken eyes: his appearance had an abstract resemblance to Joel. It added to why David was initially so disarming, and after the reveal it made him all the more creepier. It's like a subconscious effect.

For criticism of your video, maybe slow down a bit and less frequent edits. moving too fast even for my brain to keep up. Great video man and keep up the good work.

Agreed! The editing at times took away from the points he made for the sake of an off topic joke and it’s extreme fast pace made it so everything was surface level coverage

@@Jimmydean33 absolutely tbf, I'm a big watch time worry-er, and i want everything to maintain a good pace and keep the audience invested. But the result is I go by topics way too quick just to move onto the next point, that the whole thing just feels like an annoying stream of consciousness

great video, i think you should adopt less of a constant attention grabbing stance on editing with the transition sounds and frequent unrelated cutaways

Definitely going to be playing around a lot with format with smaller more frequent uploads. Playing for watch time is fun, but time consuming and end of the day isn’t as essential as I make out. Need to play around and experiment with all that :)

I think you give Druckman waaaaay too much credit for the merits of the first game's narrative. Considering his future input into the story it's clear he didn't understand the characters or the themes and twisted them to fit his vision. Now that has seeped into this adaptation due to the fact that he has more control, that's why Joel specifically is so different until Druckman has no choice but to replicate a game scene where you can see a real glimpse of the character delivered poorly by Pedro.

Joel was atrocious in the TV show. He was a completely different character outside of what you see on the surface. Show was much better than I thought. It wasn't amazing or great but very good for a video game adaptation.
