IKR, all this pish GW keep talking about it being a great little bit of "nostalgia" makes me laugh. I just want to get things back to "normal" where I can easily find people who play the same square based fantasy game as me and buy a new army any time I feel like it. Bloodbowl and necromunda has been a I've bought from them for years. Also bought a.n AOS night goblin box and based them on squares last year I suppose.

Well, given Fantasy already died once before because of sheer _unpopularity_ you can’t blame people for being cautious
@markysgeeklab87837 ай бұрын
@@joshwenn989 prior to it dieing GW stopped releasing anything new to buy, running any events or delivering on the releases it had announced. At the time GW was doubling down on space marines and 40k + HH was getting popular and pretty much all the support was in the grimdark future. I remember this period in time well, because my wife and I had the most spare hobby cash we have ever had and I was buying 2nd hand stuff and GW rarely released anything fantasy.
@eskhaphey28737 ай бұрын
@@joshwenn989just speak the the old school fans of fantasy, it didn't die from unpopularity, GW wanted to IP generic fantasy army races, my two closest GWs covering my two local cities and the multitude of local hobby stores all had fantasy as their most popular system. When it was scrapped, most people just didn't want to learn a new system with the lack of support GW gave to AoS and immediately saw the decline in the quality of systems. Just look at their then new mainstream game 40k, the rules started falling apart and poor decisions created a terrible game.

Dude! I’ve met that guy from Bugman’s you did your demo with and I have to say, he is a really nice guy. I was at Warhammer World in July (probably the only chance I’ll have this lifetime to visit) and my friend and I spoke with him a couple times. Got our lunch from him, had a little chat, then we found some of his painted minis in the cabinets where all the Forgeworld stuff is sold and he had some really nice stuff in there, so we went back to compliment him. I think if he keeps at it, he’ll get a job on the painting team sometime soon. Really wild to see him pop up in your video here and I wish I could spell his name properly. Lol. Glad to hear the place was mobbed for Launch Day and agreed that they really should allow the studio staff to interact with the public. It’s kind of bizarre they’ve put a stop to that. If they have security concerns… well, hire some security guards for the day. Job done. If it’s because of wanting to keep every creative at the company anonymous so they don’t get famous and leave for other opportunities, that’s a real bad look. It didn’t work out great for Disney (thinking of Carl Barks & Floyd Gotfredsson) and it won’t be great for G-dub in the long run. I hope they change their minds on that in the future. Launch Day was a bit of a disaster in the US thanks to blizzard weather keeping the GW warehouse locked down for several days. Nobody’s getting their toys or books in this country for a while yet. Ah well. I can’t paint fast enough anyway. Thanks for sharing all your photos. I’m glad you’re excited for the return. Should be fun. :-)

Something you mentioned: "The guys here didn't seem to think that they were going to get this big of a crowd" (paraphrasing) I was talking with my FLGS owner and a similar sentiment was expressed to him by his GW rep. He was setting up his order for The Old World and his rep was trying to tell him that The Old World was more of a "niche product" and probably wouldn't sell that well at all. It feels like GW in its entirety, perhaps, didn't exactly.....realize? expect? That there'd be such a huge appetite for Warhammer Fantasy, for a game that it had shut down a decade ago and never seemed interested in actually redoing.

Crazy :D Shout out to you - watching you get coffee delivered by deliveroo was a genius move!!! The O&G army in the cabinet was stunning, and the anouncement for O&G was awesome to see all the old stuff coming back! Snotling Swarm army anyone? The Full Tilt game was awesome, and brought back some fond memories! Its difficult to sum up without a MOUNTAIN of text, but here a re a couple of take aways - They completely underestimated demand. 2 tills working was woefully inadequate! I was expecting a lot of other enthusiasts like me at the two local GW shops over here in Hamburg. I had called both shops the day before and was told that they had only received a hand full of starter boxes and each only two rulebooks and supplements respectively. Somewhat underwelming. To be sure to get what I wanted I turned up in front of the shop at 6:20 am. Placed my folding chair, wrapped myself in a cuddly woolen cover and then my sleeping bag and then waited for four and a half hours till the store opened. But during almost all the time no one else came to wait. When the shop finally opened we were only two guys. We got what we came for but I really did expect more people. Where are your Warhammer Fantasy fans in Hamburg?!?!

My greatest fear is that GW only allowed the return of warhammer in an effort to recapture some of the money they are losing to other rank and flank games. I'm honestly worried about GW . They seem to be having manufacturing problems among other issues. I just read a really not so good review of the new dark angels codex. The old world release here in the states was plagued by bad weather tho true. Many game store owners say GWs communications here on the matter have been atrocious to say the least. Then of course there's the elephant in the room of 3D printer's. Why on earth would I spend 60 bucks on 3 grail knights when I can get 10 for 40 bucks. I want old world to succeed but as uncle atom said yesterday on his channel. GW may be at a tipping point.

I wouldn’t worry, I don’t know the channel you’re mentioning but for as long as I can remember there’s been people doom-mongering that GW is about to collapse etc etc Just as a reality check: GW have been recording record profits year after year since covid. They have a massive massive over-share of the entire industry, the other rank and flank games and companies exist in the spaces in between the absolute behemoth that is GW. They prop up the entire Wargames industry. They have profit margins bigger than Google (yes really!) It seems mad to me as a casual observer that they haven’t revamped the old world sooner given the massive influx of interest following the success of licensed video games, the nostalgia collecting boom during lockdown, the amount of money people are dropping on the secondary market for their OOP product and the massive community playing older versions of the game.

Great video mate! Very excited to see all the enthusiasm about the old world returning 👍 I wish the UK was just a little bit closer to me as I would have definitely been in that queue if it were.

Thanks for this. Glad it went well as a free event. Also glad I didn't go as meeting people on the stalls is really the best thing they can make available at these events (since pictures and news are easier to get online anyway). At one event I was talking to the guy who designed the command dice and measuring widget, probably early 8th ed 40k. Even for some accessories he was so enthused about how and why they were designed that I bought some. I remember that more than whatever was revealed that day.

Also putting the spotlight on and crediting the actual people at GW that make the Warhammer experience great is such a big bassed move.

Nice one, thank you so much for sharing this! Can you share whether the "Night Goblin Mob" to return is the current AoS sculpts (that were previously in WHF) or the old '99 plastic multipart kit that shares a lot of design elements with the already confirmed Common Goblins? REALLY curious about this one!

@@SquareBasedOldWorld Nothing to apologize for! Nobody seems to know so far, but asking never hurt.

Thanks for the comments on the day - I thought it was a ticketed event as it said it was sold out on EventBrite so we cancelled plans to go… this video is the next best thing! Completely agree about having the creatives involved (Warhammer Fest suffered from that as well) - used to love that from the old Games Days. Cheers!

Great video. As a player who is looking to get started playing it’s great news. Fingers crossed that this excitement gets the other factions out sooner.

It’s sad for the creatives not to get chance to enjoy the atmosphere after all their hard work! I expect it would be really rewarding to see people so excited. On a local scale, my GW shop had like two bits of product on a side shelf and no real presence for the game. Element games however, were amazing, with loadsa stock on display, people playing and a midnight opening!! You guys have been saying for some time now that it feels like GW have underestimated just how much appeal this new edition would have. Do you feel that yesterday proves that to be even more the case?

Glad to see that there is a huge amount of enthusiasm for the "new" game. I have played every edition of Warhammer and am hugely excited for this. When Warhammer was cancelled out group of WHB players fractured, heading to Kings of War, AOS, Ninth Age etc and I'm hoping that this will bring everyone back together. I have been going through my Orcs and Goblins and picked out a few things I would like to add to the army to round out my collection. Im hugely excited and hopefully this stays around for a while!

Are there any ideas about what happened to Kislev? Didn't they preview concept art and 3d renders for some Kislev units afew years ago
