They got BETTER Medical care at the game then if they went to the Emergency room :) When I was involved in the AHL the person would go to the home teams locker room where the Dr's would look at them and stitch them up if needed and/or they would go to the emergency room if they wanted. That was quite a while back. Today because of lawsuits they may have to go to the emergency room after being checked out at the arena.

Yeah, but at the same point, it's not like every single arena tells you several times before and during the game that pucks and sticks may exit the rink and into the stands and to be aware. Maybe that soda doesn't need to leave your hand till AFTER the whistle. Maybe check your phone only at intermissions. You are there for the game, to support your team, not play RAID while puck is in play because you got bored. Don't bring a book to read because your family dragged you to the game. Maybe pay attention and try to learn what they enjoy. You never know, you might just start liking it too. Not to mention, swag makes easy gift ideas. Just be more aware of your surroundings.

I've been broadcasting in minor pro hockey for 8 years now, my rookie season I got hit in the face by a puck during warmups when I looked away from the ice for just a split second, shattered my nose and I lost a good amount of blood to the point of almost passing out. Didn't want to leave and I tried to stay to call the game anyway but they made me go to the hospital anyway. I know he had a bunch of people in his face and a towel up there also but all things considered, it looks like he kept pretty calm! Hey he is a hockey fan shit he might have gotten stitched up and back watching the game by the next period!

That happened during my first Buffalo Sabres game against Detroit back when I was a kid. Probably around 1992. Back in the old Aud. It was a old lady few rows below me. She took it in the nose and was knocked out

It's pretty cool watching the players and fans applaud the injured fan the same way they all do for an injured player. One more thing that sets hockey apart.

Now they'll put netting all the way around the ice

I got hit in the head by a puck when I was at an OHL game when I was 12. I blacked out twice, went to hospital and got stitched up. Still have the puck...and a scar.

My dad caught a puck with his teeth when he was a teen, knocked the front 6 out of his mouth. He wore a denture the rest of his life. Of course, he was old school, and playing goalie without a mask, so there is that.

Hope he's ok. I can remember pucks hitting fans at the old Toronto Toros games at Maple leaf Gardens. Brutal.

In the 90’s, before the netting was a thing, we would go to Sabres games and intentionally sit many rows up behind the goalie & try to catch shot deflections that came up. Two rules: Pay attention, and bring a baseball glove. Great memories.

I go to jrA games I bring my helmet just cause where the door is for the team to go in and out my so called friend keeps the door open when pucks go flying I tell him to close it he just goes 🖕 to me

I remember about 20 years ago a girl got hit by a puck at a Jackets game and died, I always remembered that, that's why they put netting up, as a result of that tragedy, always scary when someone gets hit by a puck

Had this happen at an AHL game. Had my head turned away from the play and took a clearing shot at probably 80+ straight to the dome. Instantly KO'd and I woke up in the trainer's room. I still have a dent from the edge because it was a fresh frozen puck and those things are hard AF. Gotta keep your eye on the puck 🤷♂️

I remember a couple years ago, myself and my girlfriend and her friend were at a Junior A game in London, Ontario. My girlfriend and her friend were constantly talking through the game and I told them they have to pay attention or they might get hit by a puck, they just laughed at me. Halfway through the second period I got up to go get a beer and when I got back, sure enough my girlfriend got hit in the chest, when I was gone. They didn’t speak another word for the rest of the game. A bad bruise and luckily nothing broken

Let’s hope that fan makes a full recovery! On the other hand, The Washington Capitals should pay for any medical bill expenses. Such as the ambulance ride and the hospital emergency room visit. I’m not a lawyer. I’m not sure how the whole medical and legal side of things play out if a fan gets injured by a puck or a baseball?
