Except that you can. He's stepping into something that's already well established. Bama has been the most dominant team in history for 10 years. They have more talent than anyone. Why not stay at Washington, continue to build and establish them into something special? Create your own legacy instead of taking over someone else's. He was already off to a great start.

I mean, it’s not grimy, and honestly Washington fans should feel more appreciative. He just led them to a national championship which they had never done before. Yes they lost the game but he still did that. It is what it is anybody would have taken the Alabama job and as far as I know, he didn’t lie to anybody seems just very emotional to say that he just made it grimy move. A Grammy move would be to say to your face. Yes, I’m staying in all that and then turn it around and leave like Mario did at Oregon.

I remember Kalen DeBoer' first press conference with Jennifer Cohen. I could tell he was a short timer right off the bat. He was just too slick and too polished, hitting all the right notes and saying all the right things. It was a well rehearsed act.

The "well it's Alabama so there's the excuse" is not an excuse at all! Brands come and go and what's to say he couldn't have built Washington to the brand equal to that of those other guys. He'd rather jump on the back of the brand Saban built than build his here and become a legendary coach.

@@brianmyers4444 with Alabama, Nick Saban appeared in 7 National Championships and won 6 from 2009 to current. The 30 years prior to that they had a total of 1 appearance and win. It's fair to say he redefined the Alabama brand quite considerably.

It feels like he spent this season really promoting the idea that "we are proving everyone wrong to think we are underdogs." "We belong here, there's no difference between us and the other guys." This move tells me he didn't really believe it...such a bad taste in my mouth for him.

These big name schools should lose scholarships and send them to the school they poached. This is EXACTLY WHY we see the same big name schools in the CFP. This sucks in more than just losing our coach. As you said a lot of this team will enter the transfer portal and it’s a double whammy. I say thanks for nothing to Kalen Deboer. He just screwed the school who pulled him from obscurity and gave him a shot. He should send Penix his first years pay because without him Deboer wouldn’t be going anywhere. Very disappoint this stab in the back from Deboer. A lot of people from here will not think of him fondly ever again. Deboer better hope like hell it works out for him there.

Kaytlyn will be fine because unlike you being emotional right now a lot of people don’t think about kalen that way like it’s a huge betrayal. This has happened to a lot of different schools. In fact, it happened to Oregon twice in a row. The big schools are not gonna lose scholarships because their coach leaves. That’s why you pay them so much like Dan Lanning got paid for Oregon so it’s almost impossible to take them from the school . It’s a part of college football, so you kinda just have to suck it up as much as it sucks. You made the best decision for his career as he should. This is just how the circle of life is in college football you go to program that’s not like a top five job in the country and sometimes he is extremely successful and leaves for what would be his dream job and obviously Alabama is a top five job in the country.

He flat out snaked us. Sold us this dream and lowkey bailed on us. That’s why he canceled his 9.33 radio interview before he mandated that last UW team meeting. I have a friend that’s a second string safety on the team. He said the team is flat out pissed & feel betrayed. He abandoned us.

@@DuckFanDane I get what you are saying, but that's not how people are taking it. I have talked to dozens of both older alumni and current students that definitely feel betrayed. The vibe here in Seattle is he sold us a "don't let them tell you you aren't equal or can't play with the big boys" but then when given the opportunity chooses to leave for that same team you said you could hang with. Money has only some to do with it. But if Money was an issue I bet he could have presented that offer to UW and they would have matched it. His reason for going makes sense, just feels like he didn't buy what he was selling which is messed up.

First let me say that DeBoer did an absolutely amazing job here. Second, Alabama is a legendary place to go coach. Yeah, it's tough that this keeps happening to us, but sometimes you just have to roll with the punches and start over. However. There is such a thing as a tiny bit of loyalty and respect for the program that launched you. He could have quietly warned the AD that he might be moving on, but instead he implied that he'd be staying. He could have hit the transfer portal hard in an effort to leave the program with a good stable of talent. By waiting until the very last minute he squeezes the best performance possible from our boys but leaves the program in a shambles by taking all the coaches and best players with him. This late in the season, all the top possible replacements are locked in somewhere else. Now our players are opting to transfer out. Not being a bit more honest has burned the Huskies program but good. I don't blame him for moving on, but I do question his decision to crush this program like a pop can.

Plenty of opportunity to bring in a high quality head coach….nobody expected DeBoer to accomplish what he did in two seasons so no reason next coach can’t do the same….the program is not in shambles at all……

I am a Bama fan that lives in Birmingham. We all really respect coach and Petix and the Huskies team. I am sorry our gain will be your loss. College football is cruel. We dont have a pro team in any league, Alabama is our team. Its all that matters. He is a good coach and deserves a chance to coach at the ultimate level with the ultimate resources at his disposal.

Anyone who thinks Penix is the greatest Husky ever never saw Steve Emtman play. Also, Cam Ward declared for the draft. Alabama has recruiting advantages (like the fact that they're Alabama) that UW doesn't. I'm sure that won't be a problem. The one fascinating aspect is that, like Pete Carroll, Nick Saban remains. But, unlike Pete Carroll, Saban will have an office staring down on the coach during the games. That'll provide some added pressure. I didn't even know who DeBoer was when we hired him. When I found out that he was the coach for Fresno St, then I remembered "Oh yeah, they were in the Top 25 for a little while this year with Jake Haener at QB". The expectations weren't super high. I was just glad to be moving on from Jimmy Lake. So I'm not ready to admit that we're in for a freefall and there's no way we can replace him. Maybe the next DeBoer is sitting out there right now and we're just not aware of it.

Who was Kevin DeBoer two years ago? Nobody! He was a coach from Fresno State. Not a big hire. He did an amazing job but he was helped by the covid year and a bunch of good transfers. He knew that it was goung to decline drastically at Washington. His sucess was linked to having a bunch of seniors do to covid and transfer he brought with him. Not a good high school recruiter. I expect him to get fired after 2 to 3 yrs. Expect Alabama recruting to fall out of the top ten in recruting for sevetal years in a row. Get a good recruiter and you will be better in the long run. DeBoer success was deceptive, it was not sustainsble long term. I compare him to Chip Kelly. Excellent coach and gets more with less but if you cant recruit you wont be able to sustain that success.

Karma ! - Young Gen Z Hawks fans pushed out Sweet Pete, so Karma has taken Kalen off em. Lets hope 12s can be more positive from now on, & stop moaning. Liverpool FC are UK's best club mainly due to their amazing Anfield fans. Even when Klopp wanted to retire due to his mums death, they persuaded him to stay to win more Champions League Cups. LFC are currently leasing the UK premiership. Doing good wins.
