I absolutely agree. Stepping down voluntarily set the stage for something we've taken for granted ('til 1/6/2021): the peaceful transition of government after elections. Some wanted to make him our king. He replied, said "I'll do no such thing!" There's been too much oppression. My term's just a session. To the world a new order let's bring! (Limerick Rex strikes again).

I mean, yeah that would have been great and all, but he did set the example to eventually step down as president at some point after a long career of leading the country. He made the example that all leaders, Great as Churchill, or Terrible as Hitler should step down at some point (in my opinion, the bad leaders in general should have 1 term, if not less, and the great leaders should be allowed 2, if not more). That way, we can encourage the leaders of our nations to actually do a good job at bringing positive change

The fact that he paid attention to the Constitution and actually thought of it frequently during his term of service should serve notice to today's politicians of its relevance. His greatest act as leader was to trust those under this command and to exit when he was supposed.

0:00-0:04 The cinematography for the crossing of the Delaware River is just fantastic, such stillness and suspense. I'm also now a fan of Nicholas Rowe because of this series; his performance as Washington is so nuanced and in his eyes there's simultaneously a sense of confidence in his mission, and also an underlying doubt that he would actually succeed. We take for granted the history lesson we've known since childhood that Washington (and his confidants and army) achieved victory, but he was really dedicated and improvisational across years of adversity and uncertainty. The responsibility of building an army and then a country's foundation must have been a considerable strain on Washington personally, and this series really showed that humanity.

Washington warned us about what he called "faction". In other words, parties. He believed that the development of parties, of any kind, ought to be fiercely resisted, or the country would devolve into a spiral of constant fingerpointing, division, enmity, and partisanship. In this, he was a prescient genius. Because this is exactly what happened. Look at us today. We're at each other's throats : (

I was impressed by the production of quality of this. So many of these docudramas just suffer from deficient cinematography, attention to detail, etc.., turning the viewer off with a a generally subpar investment. This is an impressive production, with a good mix of the drama and documentary formats.

@@randymaylowski2485 Stepping out of this fake persona for a bit, I actually thought of this to myself too. All the reasons the founding fathers made this country, and what they wanted to establish, is slowly being corrupted by modern times. I can think of so many examples. No matter what your political beliefs are you can agree. I won’t say my political party, I just want to give some examples. Freedom of religion. Christians are being seen as homophobes. Right to bear arms. Guns are being pushed to be banned. (I’m not sure if it’s assault weapons or what). Freedom of speech. People being called out, shamed, and completely blocked out because of their opinions, especially political. And I don’t even want to talk about racism, and sexism. Abraham Lincoln did so many great things to end slavery. This later turned into blacks having rights. Except there are some horrible people who are racist, and it kills me to see that it is such a big problem. I’m young, I’m still in school, so I have not had a chance to fully make all my opinions my own.There are so many outside influences that make me not know what to believe or what to think. No matter. Back to your comment. I can see George truly horrified at America today. And that, is truly.... a shame.

As a Brit imo, the judiciary is the most powerful branch, as their job is to uphold the sovereign constitution. Therefore the judicial review of the judiciary branch is sovereign in a sense. Similarly to how the UK parliament decisions are sovereign, because parliament is sovereign. The presidency therefore gets too much emphasis, as its powers aren't clear, also the president has more international powers compared to its domestic powers. The legislature is considerably more powerful in terms of domestic rule, than the president. I think the presidency is just a position that enables separation of powers otherwise the system of government would not work, effectively. Otherwise one branch would become tyrannical or arbitrary, which the founding fathers did not want.

I thought the most powerful of our government system is we the people. In our constitution it says it's the duty of all citizens to overthrow a government that has become tyrannical or no longer representative of the will of the people....that's why the board of education has dumbed down our citizens for quite a few generations, so they don't understand the power they have in our government nor understand their duty, or what freedom is supposed to be. We have allowed our government to become the very thing we sought Independence from. We are overtaxed, enslaved and the government no longer represents the will of the people, have forgotten their place and act like our Lord's and masters. Our founding fathers would be very disappointed in America today
@omorabedin3648
@omorabedin3648 4 жыл бұрын
@@timechangeseverybody3608 yh i get your point, the whole point of the constitution is so that americans can be "free". The truth is Americans are not free at all. Imo the american govt is very very tyrannical in terms of its policies and international intentions. However i do believe separation of powers thankfully stops one branch from becoming too overpowered such as trump or the legislature. The problem is the people are easily manipulated by bureaucrats with silly slogans such as “lock her up”, “build the wall”. Lol at the end of the day the american people suffer from stupid govt decisions.
@timechangeseverybody3608
@timechangeseverybody3608 4 жыл бұрын
@@omorabedin3648 yes, it definitely would be way worse if it wasn't for the genius of seperation of powers. And the American people are either stupid or just don't care about the important things anymore because we are nothing more than peasents in reality. Politicians no longer run in this country to serve but only do so to get rich off our tax dollars, and that's the truth and the American people don't look at voting records, don't search for the truth, just believe whatever the tv and lying politicians tell them. It's ridiculous. That's why I love Trump. He's the first person to run for office for the right reasons in a very long time, he's the only one that didn't get rich after gaining his office but unfortunately people are too stupid to see the truth. Both our political parties are in bed together, doing dirty deals to futher their own wealth behind closed doors, and fake fighting for our entertainment to distract the people from what they are truly doing. Trump really does want to Clean up Washington but unfortunately that won't happen because too many of them are corrupt and compromised or guilty by association and will not help him. That's why they want to get rid of him so bad, they are afraid the gravy train will come to a stop

Ahhhhh yes, the NEW History....all of the women come forward to tell us he was not a brave, or as strong as we thought he was....it was just a myth you see!....I bet they had never tasted the sting of battle, lived outdoors for a cold winter....or been a leader who inspired others.

You’ve got bill clinton commenting on this important American topic . . ? He needs to be edited out. He absolutely destroys credibility & I won’t be watching because of it.

Joanne Freedman seems to like putting words out there that are not exacting... Not exactly as it was said... Notice her vanity... notice her spiritual ignorance of the over-all state of the soul (of a divided peopleS)
