Although high output coil packs may not "produce" more horsepower on their own, they can really make a difference in helping your engine reach its fullest potential.

Great job and being very clear! I agree and don't forget to mention that OEM coil packs are more expensive than the Z1 coil packs. So like you said, if your in there anyways, have to do them, than you might as well get the upgrade and do it cheaper than going OEM.

Thanks for doing these reviews on items like this that we're likely to be considering for our cars. I agree that unless you're going to forced induction, or the OEM coil packs are failing, then getting these is probably a waste of money. A better expenditure of money to restore some lost pep in your VQ37 might be a new set of iridium spark plugs if you're pushing high mileage on the ones in your engine. I noticed that NGK and Denso have competing designs and so there might be something new from these guys that might work well in the VQ.

Good show bud.. Appreciate ya diggin into the myth of power gains from this "upgrade".. While it definitely helps the engine operate more efficiently, easier; it doesn't give extra power by themselves.. The power source/supply to the coils needs to be increased. 12v is 12v, and most operate on a 5v reference anyway (which is computer controlled/limited); no matter what coil or plug you use. I would consider these when time comes for replacements.. Not too far off oem part prices. Great show man. Greatly appreciate this series!!! #HustleOn

@phishin81
@phishin81 Жыл бұрын
That doesn't make any sense. You don't need to increase the input voltage. A coil pack steps up voltage by the winding of the coil inside. If the coil winding is different in the coil pack it can make more voltage with the same input voltage and by doing so you should end up with a more efficient burn of fuel and air which in turn could absolutely equate to more power.

@@mikeschaner5853 they do exactly what the z-1 coils do. They step up voltage to create a higher voltage spark by way of internal windings. They still use a 12V input. Am I missing something?

My Z is tuned and is hitting 60K miles and I've noticed a decrease in gas mileage and poorer off the line throttle response, so I'm going to replace the plugs and coil packs do a manual cleaning of the throttle bodies and spray clean the MAF sensors. I'm curious to see what the plugs look like and how much the gaps have widened. I think that with the gaps widening and the firing voltage increasing, the coil packs are probably under greater electrical and thermal stress than when the engine was new and so they might be getting a little ragged by now.

Has this kind of vibration at around 2500 and then again at 3500 and it sounds like there is a tad of rasp. My pops also sound different. Is this normal? Hey boss your very knowledgeable so maybe you would know the problem with my G. While I’m driving her around back ways she does awesome runs great, when I enter on the freeway and go she still runs great but every single time I’m going a longer distance I always seem to go into “limp mode” it’ll slow down and will not let me go past 2 gear if I try I’ll begin to bog and start backfiring so I have to pull over and turn her off and on and she’ll do completely fine. It doesn’t give out any codes what so ever to a reader I’ve changed my camshaft sensors, maf and no luck also took it to my local mechanic and no luck. Also tested my sensors and fuses.

I’m just not a fan of Z1 in general. Their parts are just lower quality than other manufacturers (but cheaper, so I get it). My biggest issue with them is their service. I’ve been modding my car for the past 6 months (about $8k in parts) and they have been a nightmare. Poor communication, poor tracking, no updates on timelines for parts delivery, didn’t want to take back parts that dont fit, sell parts they don’t have, etc. Do yourself a favor, upgrade to better parts (White Line, SPL, even Megan and Stillen are better), and purchase direct from the manufacturer, don’t go through Z1. You’ll get the parts faster, have better comms/tracking, and get better service.

@@SpeedCultureStudios You’re lucky. And maybe you have a different expectation. If I buy something, I expect to get notifications for everything (purchase, shipped, shipping updates, delivery, delays). I also expect that if an item is not in stock, it is clearly stated (along with anticipated re-stock date). I don’t appreciate being sold thousands of dollars of parts, only for the confirmation to notify me that the part is unavailable, and will be shipped in 4-6 weeks. This might be standard in the car parts world, but I’m new to modding. If you went into a Footlocker and bought a pair of shoes, and then they hand you a receipt stating the shoes would arrive in 6 weeks, you’d be pissed.
