Great job, JD! Those little bends remaining near the hairspring stud isn’t a big deal as they are beyond the travel of the regulator pins. Once you turn the regulator pin block in its setting to close the gap as in Alex’s video, it’ll have even less impact. The active breathing part of the hairspring from the collet to the regulator pins is far more important and looks fine. Alex Hamilton’s KZfaq channel is outstanding. There are some other excellent watchmakers on KZfaq, like Kalle Slaap of the Chronoglide channel, but as far as tutorials and teaching, Alex is outstanding. Just call me Mark, but if it makes it easier to say my KZfaq name, think of the word mercury. My KZfaq name is pronounced like that with AL on end - 12:18 Mercuryal/mercurial. If the watch is lacking amplitude after a full disassembly, clean and oiling, I’d be checking the condition of the mainspring first. It’s important to disassemble the shock settings (remove capstones) to get any dried oil cleaned out properly, cleaning the balance jewelling without removing the capstones won’t suffice. This watch uses an ETA 2650 movement, so spare parts aren’t too difficult to come by.

With my shaky hands and clunky tweezers, I needed a third hand for hairspringing. I took the hairspring off the balance staff and pinned it to a piece of foamboard. Now the hairspring stays within the microscope’s depth of field, and I have a bit more control over the angle of the bend. When removing the pins, a gentle twist helps to avoid pulling up the hairstyle with it. Edit: stupid autocorrect. Hair*spring*

I can see immediately that you’re a Bugs Bunny fan. Especially from the last statement and yes, I’ll watch the video on Junior Brown because I think you’re absolutely correct. He’s an amazing guitar player. I did sing stairway to Heaven using Elmer Fudd‘s voice once in a bar in Vermont while I was at business at Sikorsky Aircraft. Was with 20 people and they made me go up and play so I figured why not do something they’ll remember.

@@JDRichard You guessed it- I grew up with the Bugs Bunny humour. If you have your performance on tape you should post it- Sounds like you and the audience had a good time.
