Tsunamis tend to loose speed as their wavelenght touch the bottom of the ocean, meaning they loose speed when they come closer to the coast. The only issue is; they build up and get taller as they loose speed.

Not because they lose speed .. speed is decreased when water hits the shore and by hitting the shore .... the wave becomes taller and taller....

I give them high marks for NOT creating the usual giant Hawaiian surfer wave that most simulations think is a tsunami. However, they might have put in a note that the events are sped up to about 50 x the normal speed of occurrence. Also that there has NEVER been a tsunami that has risen as high as they are showing here.

Regular tsunamis don't move that quickly. They slow down considerably as they approach land. You could out-drive one if you were in your car on a straight road. They also don't crest, as shown in the video - they're more like a flash-flood. They start low and build higher and higher. You also wouldn't be able to see the wave out at sea as it's depicted here. The behaviour in this video is more similar to a mega-tsunami, one caused by an asteroid or a landslide, not the movement of tectonic plates.

when the ocean water pulls back realy fast it means there is going to be a huge tsunami so whenever you see the ocean water going back you should imediately get to high ground
@jessica-il1mk5 жыл бұрын
Tsunami are actually waves caused by sudden movement of the ocean due to earthquakes, landslides on the sea floor, land slumping into the ocean, major volcanic eruptions or large meteorite impacts. Most tsunami are caused by large earthquakes at the seafloor, when large slabs of rock are forced to move past each other suddenly causing the overlying water to move. The resulting wave moves outwards and away from this event. Underwater landslides can cause tsunami, and so can land which slumps into the ocean. Landslides happen when slopes become too steep to withstand gravity. Less common are tsunami initiated by volcanic eruptions. These occur in several ways: if an underwater volcano erupts, the hot lava may heat the surrounding water quickly and explosively. massive flows of volcanic debris such as ash can travel down the side of a volcano and into the ocean, pushing water outwards. the top of an underwater volcano may collapse downwards, so that the overlying water also drops. Large meteorite impacts that occur at sea can trigger tsunami too.

Yeah it does. Just to remember for you, a normal surfers wave has a bulk of over the crest to the back of maybe a 100 feet. Tsunamis have a wave length from crest to back of hundreds of kilometers. Also in the open ocean a tsunami travels at speeds of about a 1000 kilometers per hour. The force is literaly extreme. So the next time you meet a hot surfer dude on the beach who says he can ride a tsunami, please don't go out with him xD

That would depend on the shape of the beach and the speed of the tsunami. If the beach has the right shape, the tsunami can come in as a actual wave. Sometimes it looks like aa relentless flood that just keeps building. Some tsunami have been clocked at 300mph.
@daavski97775 жыл бұрын
roger sowers. Since the entire water column is displaced, the wave travels very fast in deep water and slows down as it enters shallow water. The back of the wave which is still in deep water is trying to come in very quickly the tsunami gains incredible height.

Have you ever had experiences with tornados or hurricans? I had. It was about 2pm and it was hot but foggy. I was in the living room, sat on the couch and watched TV. As there were suddenly crashing branches, roofing tiles and so much more against the windows. But I was extremely proud of that nothings happend with our house. My cousine was next to me, and she's 8 years old. She started to cry, because actually something like that, does not happen in the mountains.😱😦😩🤧

A little late but I live in WV most of the state has mountains throughout I've never seen a tornado nor would I want to they're just as terrifying as tsunami's, tornadoes can happen anywhere with the unfortunate right conditions but mountain areas there's not too much of a chance the worst I've seen was a derecho it looked pretty creepy outside I almost thought we were going to have a tornado

Studying the photos of the people that died, watching lots of videos, studying photos of the mountian. I can look at photos and then a photo of the mountain and I can tell where it was taken in quite a few of them. I don't have the money to climb, but if I were rich I'd hire 20 Sherpas. That way I'd be 100% sure I'd have enough oxygen. And if I got sick, I'm pretty sure 20 men could get me down. I've watched videos about the airport in Nepal, that's interesting too.
